Fantastic review and comparison of features! Being able to hold position without the use of anchors or a drift sock combined with a trolley system would be fantastic. Having the ability to "lock on a spot" is worth the extra money, I think.
Great video! I just put money down on a blue pa14 360. I almost went 180, but then I realized how much easier it could be fishing laydowns and docks with the 360. Sometimes you need to move just a few feet to the side to get the right angle on the cover you’re fishing and I think this will help a ton.
Just put a deposit down on a pa14 360 in green! Always fished tournaments in boats but am looking forward to trying something new! Best fishing kayak channel on UA-cam! Keep it up!
I have the camo 2018 pa14 180 drive. No kick up fins, no recessed/kick up transducer. Really upset when the 360 drive came out because I do alot of fresh water river and lake fishing. Now after the 360 drive has been out for almost a year I still would like the 360 drive for those lakes and especially river fishing but I am glad that I dont have it or even the 180 kick up fins because it keeps me thinking about the skeg and rudder- they are not kick up in reverse so it keeps me on my toes so I dont accidentally break my skeg or rudder in reverse. Its all preference but in my opinion the 180 drive is enough and Id rather save the money and use it on accessories or the electrical system on my kayak. For the cost of a new 360 drive pa14 I bought my camo pa14 new, put boone dox landing gear on it, full remote control fpv-power electrical system and a lowrance elite ti 5 fish finder. I can fish day or night, salt or fresh water, camping, fishing or just cruising and doing sight seeing with 35ah of lithium ion battery life which is a completely waterproof electrical system.
Love my 360, living out in Colorado wind is always a factor, and the 360 keeps me in control. My directional arrow broke the third time out, and to be honest I don't miss it all that much. Gonna put a dab of grease on the cable to get rid of the left foot squeak, which only happens on occasion, a little water usually quiets it pretty quick. I never owned a 180, so I have no comparison.
Yes it IS worth it... without question... once they get the drive issues straightened out, there won’t be another kayak company that can even come close to touching the 360. It is an absolute game changer . Yes it’s expensive.... but my LORD it is worth it once you start fishing out of it.
I had a 2016 Outback for four years. Sold it and bought a PA12 360, but didn't like it all that much. Never used it so I sold it also. 5 months down the road... I'm itching for another kayak. Bought the 2020 Outback and I've had it about a week and already wish I would've bought the PA12 360 again. Probably gonna do the ol' swap-a-roo here soon because that 360 drive, while at the time seemed like a gimmick and more than necessary, would've already proven it's worth in the recent wind and high water currents.
love your honesty about these drive's and well done. I do the same thing when reviewing things on my channel just tell the truth no B.S. that is the best way to do it.
Good information Kristine! I will probably do the 180 drive first, then move up to 360 after a few years! I currently have a 2014 PA 12! What year did they start the kick-up fins on the 180 drive! Thanks, love your videos!
I believe kick up fins came out in 2021 I believe and you can upgrade certain older drives with a couple of kits but the cost is not much different than a whole new drive. I think about 300 dollars.
Good review. I currently have a 2019 PA14 without kick up fins and was deciding if I want to just upgrade to kick up fins or sell my kayak and get a PA14 with the 360 drive. Any suggestions? I have used Jacksons HD/FD, Hobie PA12/PA14, Nucanoe 12 Frontier. Ha always changing so many kayaks.
What do you think of the passport 10.5 vs the 11s for fishing? I've got oodles of back problems and need something super light. I'm a minimalist when it comes to fishing as in all my tackle can fit into a hanging seat pouch and I bring two rods tops.
Sorry but I'd get the Old town I-pilot with spot lock if I were to invest that kind of money. Plenty of deals out there to get the Old town for roughly $800 less than the Hobie.
I really like the Outback except having to pull the cord to go in reverse. It's on sale right now for $3100. I just wonder how much of a pain it is to maneuver that in the wind vs a prop drive that has instant reverse.
I have had both the Jackson prop drive and the Hobie 180 drive (no kick up fins) and I will say the instant reverse of the prop drive is nice and you just start pedaling backwards whereas the 180 drive you have to reach down and pull the cord. In speed I am about the same. As far as drives goes I like the Hobie better for just the fact in weeds I can usually power through them and with the Jackson prop drive I had to pull the drive up and clean the prop so I could continue after I paddled my way out of the weeds. So which type of drive you choose would depend on the areas you plan on fishing. I am normally a shallow water fisherman so my encounter with weeds is quite often.
I know this video is old but hope I can get an answer I'm about to get pro angler ... have 2 options 1 is used 2022 pro angler 14 360 2 is new 2023 pro angler 12 180 The 12 price is 5000$ and the 14 5300$ Most friends said to get the 12 as it is lighter and easier to move around objects as we fish near pipes and constructions where 14 is harder to do that And said 180 almost don't need to do maintenance when the 360 might have some daily maintenance I'm so lost please help 😅
Its tough, but once you go 360, you wont go back! Also, I prefer the 14!! I sold mine barely used for 5k! you might be able to get a better deal on that 360.
Dang it ALL... Now, you have me "Re-Thinking" everything I did NOT like about the Hobie drives! I can tell you ONE thing, my next 'Yak is gonna be either the PA-12 or the 14 foot, with the 180 Drive...! (Wish they had that "kick-up" drive system, when I spent all that money on my Titan...!) Always loved the Quality of Hobie products (used to race their Catamarans, in contests, in So Cal.)
I have used prop style drives.. they just don’t compare to the mirage, but thats just my opinion. Kick up fins really elevated that drive and made it bullet proof!
That’s a great boat! I just love the versatility of the mirage drive. Infish a lot of shallow water and not having to pull the drive and flutter in inches and shallow rivers really caters to my style!
Not new anymore. All the bugs have been worked out. NOTHING beats the exclusiveness of the 360 drive. One of a kind. And if you fish tournaments, then have a spare drive available. Simple as that.
How comfortable are these kayaks? I've had sciatica problems in the past and the seating maybe an issue. Is your lower back supported? Can anybody chime in that has had similar concerns? Thanks in advance...
@@kristinefischer2289 I can't disagree on that by the way I have never see someone that enjoy bass fishing as you and Roland Martin ,love your videos , thank you
Am sure the more moving parts just add more points of failure. I’ll stick with my 180.1 you tuber said the gear that turn the drive has cracked also the cable inside the drive also broke. He went through 3 drives within 6 months so. No thanks spending$$$5000 for that many failures even if it covered under warranty. I can’t imagine how much more failures they will have after 2 years. Hobie started making Chinese level of quality products for this year I see
Real...you sell hobie products...360 cost most...Hmmmm..180 has reverse...me..have them all..think Gt drive is the best deal...needs the least maintenance...long term...best ..salt water

Just upgraded the original GT drive on my Revo 13 with the MD180, and love it. I don’t think the 360 Drive fits on the Revo
Correct- the 360 is designed for that boat only ! The 180 is awesome!
Great channel. I love the comparation. Cya ;)
Great job on the video 👊👊🇺🇸
Great review👍
Have you had any issues with the 360?
would love to try the Hobie inflatable
Is Hobie going to make a conversion kit for the 180 drive to give it kick up fins? I don’t want to buy a whole new drive to get that feature.
Sadly it’s an entirely different system, so you’ll have to eventually get the drive
Kristine Fischer thanks for the info!
I can't see forking out that much $$$ for a pedal drive kayak. I'm looking at the Old Town Auto Pilots with the Minn Kota and Spot Lock

where do you buy your hobies at? From KY and so far i have only found 1 kayak dealer in my area.
The dugout bait and tackle in Marietta GA is AMAZING- well worth the drive!
You go girl!!
Can a 360 drive fit in place where a 180 drive was?
Good evening where can I send for a kayak for two people. I am interested in buying one. I would like you to recommend a store. Thank you .

Welcome to Georgia. I couldn’t handle the spend for the 360. Fishing docks would have been so much easier
Do they my a kit to convert my 180 to 180 with kick up fins.
no they dont, you need a new drive. those kick up fins are worth it though!
Are you able to order the 360 as an upgrade on a kayak that comes with the 180 standard? If so, how much more is it?
you cannot fit the 360 drive into a 180 drive kayak, the 360s socket is built to accommodate the 360 drive only

most comfortable kayak chair in production
Something came to my mind: Will not these fins make a kaiak looks like a seal, from a shark view coming from the bottom?
I preferred a canoe , on my opinion got more room and less possibility of thing fall in the water
Actually the pro angler kayaks are far more stable than a canoe, because of hull design!
