Had a 95 3000gt once upon a time. Could keep up with modern cars and had an aux port which was mind blowing on a 95
Had 91 VR4 few years back, awesome car even if my example was a bit rough
@@kebabaluba mine was a sl base but was a 200k mile shit box when I got it but was perfect for delivering pizzas 6 disc CD changer power lumbar manual sunroof active suspension. Mine suggested premium fuel only . I put mid grade in it and it ran fine. Miss that car

I got a 95 sl around 6 months ago. I got kinda lucky cause I got a really good price and it only has 60k miles, but it hadn't been driven for years and has a fuel issue. Got the fuel issue cleaned up though, gonna do the 60k tune up and hopefully it'll be good to go. It has some issues since it sat in direct sunlight for so long, like the rubber window seals have hardened, they still keep water out though. The sunlight had damaged a lot of components in the driver side since that's where the sun was hitting the most, so the blinkers are touchy, the driver side window doesn't like to roll up, and the door locks only work sometimes. My dad and I drove it just after cleaning the fuel tank and all and it drove great. Very fun first car. It's a 5 speed too.

Same here. But maybe I'd rather have a 3000gt. I know they're the same for all intensive purposes but I just prefer the look. A VR4 would be nice
Mitsubishi built a lot of really cool cars, and they had a good thing going with Chrysler all the way back to the '70s Colt. I can't remember why the two of them broke up, specifically, but it seems like Mitsu lost interest in the North American market shortly afterwards. Even though you can still buy a Mirage and a bunch of crossovers in the US, their sales volume is wayyyy down from back in the day. That's a shame! I hope Mitsubishi shocks us all and mounts a dramatic comeback.
Considering they now platform share with Nissan, it's not likely.
Not a bunch of crossovers theres like two and they are rebadged Nissans.
The ¥ went way up relative to the $ in the 90s and it cut their profits drastically. With the 3000GT specifically, that ran through to '99, they had to crank the price up over its life to make any money on them and as a result people found other cars to buy. They also had a few scandals around warranty/recalls which didn't help their cause. The US market is a tough one - massive regulations, dipshit customers that abuse their cars and don't want to maintain them, plus nitpicky and sky-high expectations around fit, finish and durability. It was the biggest market, but also the most painful and competitive.
I own a 94 jdm gto with the tt and vr4, these cars are hidden gems they are stupidly underrated, very reliable when well maintained best "cheap" cars out there even the fwd
Honestly, the Twin Turbo Stealth is the one to get. It looks the best, drives way better than the FWD versions, holds more value, and a great alternative to the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 since those gone up in price ridiculously.
The stealth TT costs the same as what a 3000gt vr4 used to cost 5 years back.
The twin turbo models are absolutely not the ones to get considering how nightmarish and expensive the maintenance is. Holds more value but you'll be losing more in repairs than the purchase price

My very first sports cars were Dodge Stealth's. The RT/TT was wicked fast back in the day with just a few bolt-ons. High 11 second car 20 something years ago. One of my Stealth's made it to almost 300K miles before I sold it.
I also had a dodge stealth with nearly 300k miles. The one's with less bells and whistles actually hold up quite well, mine was an ES. Parts are hard to find tho, couldn't even get new parking brake pads
@@davidbartel6823 alot of ppl talk smack ab 6g72s, but they are very reliable once you don't cheap out on maintenance. These and the vg30s were very stout v6 engines.

Dodge in my view in the 90s was a variety performance brand. You had the quickest family sedan (Dodge Spirit R/T). You had a import fighting coupe (Daytona IROC R/T) which was slightly faster than the Eclipse (just not as good in handling, traction, or refinement), you had this unique car which had AWD and AWD with 4valves per cylinder and twin turbos, Air suspension, with its exotic styling. Then you had the Viper, the polar opposite with huge 8.0L V10, RWD, manual only, no cruise control, no ABS, no Traction Control, no air suspension, (and no cup holder for the BFB test😉), etc.
In my eyes, it resembles a lot of the Dodges from the time falling kind of the Viper theme.
No Stealth or 3000GT ever had air suspension. They have shock absorbers with selectable valve porting so that they could automatically switch between soft and hard valving while driving.

For anyone curious: Mitsubishi and Chrysler made a deal in the 80s: Half (or more) of imported Mitsu's were rebadged and sold as Chryslers in exchange for cheap import fees. The result? Chrysler expanded their lineup without making a single car and Mitsu got introduced in the states. For example, the conquest was a rebadged starion and the stealth was a rebadged 3000gt. The DSMs however, were a collaboration between the two.
220hp out of an early 90’s V6 is a lot
Yeah very impressive for the time. If I'm remembering correctly, that's more power than the 5.0 Mustang made in 1992
It was decent for a GT car, but these were heavy even in front drive format. I recall a publication testing a 218 HP 3000GT SL at nearly 8 Sec 0-60 w/ the auto around 1995ish. Even little brother Eclipse GS-T's were much quicker by mid 90s.

I've only seen one Stealth ES in person here in Alberta and that was 17 years ago, also happened to be white.
I have a white 93 Stealth ES automatic virtually like this one (mine has the factory rear spoiler) that I'll be listing for sale in the next week or so. 69,000 original miles, great shape in/out, did the timing belt/water pump with documentation, but I'm in Michigan :(

Imagine if the Renault alliance that owns Mitsubishi and Stellantis that owns Chrysler teamed up to create a powerhouse of actually good badge engineered vehicles like they did back in the day
It is a much cleaner look without the wing and ground effects. Kind of like the Integra GS
been a long time since I seen one of these I remember back in the day when they were new a friend of mine had a bright red one he loved it but I have never seen a car that was in the shop so much but he didn't care he loved that car ended up selling it years later and still got a good penny for it
222 HP was in line with the non-turbo Supra or 300ZX, but those were RWD and had better overall driving characteristics.
These cars just look sporty and sexy and r fun to drive. I've owned 2 Dodge stealths a blue 92 and a white 94. Great cars but not really worth the high asking prices nowadays.
Was it made in Japan? I thought these were built in the DSM plant in North America. 1:18 *twin turbo 2:29 Was it equipped with all wheel steering? 8:44 Also the Galant/2000GTX and then there's the Laser which in some years was based on the Daytona Charger and other years it was based on the Eclipse/Talon.
The Eclipse/Talon were built in the Normal Illinois plant, this was early on and built in Japan.

These are basically rebadged 3000gts with a few different styling cues. Same thing with the chrysler conquest being a rebadged Mitsubishi starion. DSMs were engineered by both companies. Hope this helps!

Own a 93 stealth rt n/a manual .. i drove today , the es trim is such a unique trim option vs the base / es / rt / rt tt
One thing i love was Mitsubishi and dodge wanted to make dang sure every buyer could find a car at a price point spec level they wanted lol
It's a base model with the R/T engine and wheels - that's it, really.
@@runner3033 i just mean the body cladding and side molding on es cars make it unique, vs the other two trims they visually easy to spot .. the es is odd in between duck

Also the seat fabric is mitsu spec on monteros and montero sport and even diamante of the era.

You have it wrong. It was the eclipse which dodge designed and mitsu did the mechanics. The 3000gt or gto is all mitsu. Dodge only did the facelift on the stealth.

This is a weird optioned car, it's the base model stealth BUT it has the DOHC engine in it, base model stealths are usually supposed to have the SOHC engine, the R/T and TT normally have the DOHC.
Afaik there were 2 other trim levels apart from the base and TT.
There is this ES trim ofcourse which has the quad cam V6 and is FWD.
And then there is the SL trim which has the same quad cam V6 but is AWD. Basically non-turbo engine and AWD.
@@aaryeshg.6526 Hmm maybe in different countries the SL had AWD, in the states the 3/S had FWD for the base and SL/ R/T models, VR-4/ TT was the only one with AWD. Also until 1996 the Base 3000GT came with the DOHC engine, 1997 was the first year the 3000GT had a SOHC, it was previously only on the ES Stealth. This car is weirdly optioned as it has the DOHC, Auto trans, and power windows, others usually had manual windows. I am not sure about the Euro Spec or JDM variants, but in the states those were what they were equipped with.
You better try the original (JDM) 3000GTO. That car was a beast.

I like the back end. The whole car looks very 90s concept car. This one looks very clean for 31 years and 129k miles. These had a very low survival rate.

I studied these cars for years and finally owned one... sad to say that despite their amazing looks and decent driving experience (IMO), they are junk. It takes a special kind of patience, skill, time and money to own/operate one of these. I had all those things, but what ultimately pushed me to sell was never really enjoying the car, always listening for the next thing to break. They had engineering faults that were simply inexcusable for the car they were purported to be. Unobtanium parts also helped - I hate wasting time scrounging for parts like some sort of Mad Max post-apocalyptic bullshit.
A few years after, I bought a then-6 year old E39 540i that I still have at 20 years old now, and it's been a breeze in comparison which says a lot.
That thing just screams '90s sports car!

The base engine was built by Dodge, it was a single cam V6 from a minivan. Mitsubishi supplied the dual cam V6 for the higher trims.

The Turbo model of the Stealth looks the best. Base and ES models look horrible, especially with that black strip going around the whole car.
Anything Chrysler affiliated sucks balls! I had a ‘95 Chrysler Concorde in 2000 and it had a myriad problems until 2009 when I sold it. 100% junk…just like this 😂😂😂
This has a Japanese built engine though. Basically identical to the Japanese Mitsubishi version

I agree with you on this. Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep released so much garbage in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s to be honest. But the Dodge Stealth was one of the few good examples that came out that mess, just like the Viper did.
Oh yes the ES trim. When Stealth was launched it had turbos, then came non turbo version and then they watered down the car to this...
