I really love how the siren's song matches the situations in the scene and reaches a crescendo at the end. The music was so well done and fits so seamlessly with the scene.
the sound track of this movie is SICK. it's so calculated. every single detail fits the scene perfectly. (1:17 - harp and piccolo to represent the 'beauty'/purity; 1:26 trumpets appear to signal danger and to give off kind of a 'playful' tone (playful like - hehehe we are gonna murder you 🥰🥰); 3:01 the orquestral texture completly changes; 3:15 the motif is with basically all instruments to make it more powerful - climax of this scene).
I love this interpretation of the sirens, it's very unique. Also, given what they are, I'm kinda surprised Marina didn't fall for their song since they are the sea.

Ways to beat the sirens. 1. Put wax in your ears. 2. Have everyone tied to something so that no matter how hard they struggle they can't break free. 3. Bring Orpheus along with you, he was the only one who was able to out-sing the sirens (this was before Eurydice - and even after what happened with Euridice he probably still could make everything including rocks and trees weep even if he couldn't play music to make them dance anymore).
So, it wasn’t until this day that I realized Sinbad is based off of Ancient Greek mythology. I know that Eris should’ve been the dead giveaway, but it was the Sirens that really gave it away to me. And this scene was done so well that to think that the myths of Sirens leading sailors to their deaths as only myths really is scary when you see how well that depiction was done in this scene.

It was a pretty creative idea to make the Sirens Beings Made out of Living Water, like they were Sea-Nymphs or something like that, but just imagine how different this scene would have been if they had depicted them as more Greek-Accurate Sirens and made them more like Half-Human/Half-Bird Women flying around the ship.
@@Neoquaker1 Well I could see them flying around, nabbing the crew men with their bird-feet, lifting them up really high, then trying to drop them into jagged rocks, or grabbing the ship & flying in a way that would steer it into cliffs, and stuff like that, things could have been a lot more difficult for out heroine if she had to deal with Sirens that could fly above her, or stab her with their knife-like talons.
Fun fact: The Sirens song can actually affect anyone if they’ve been exposed to it for a period of time. Male, female and even animals. It just so happened that most sailors were men. Which is why it’s depicted that a Sirens song only affects men.

i got the fattest boner as a kid when i heard and saw these sirens. i imagined getting kissed by them and nearly creamed. no joke. but i am a little flabbergasted to see how many of you were creeped out by them XD
fun fact, the siren song in this scene is real and it will truly enchant anyone who hears it, that is why we keep coming back to watch and hear it years later :) Half jokes aside they truly succeeded in the depiction of the sirens, they took a huge risk by giving them an original design, using the 3-d and 2-d animation for them and going all out on the music. whenever I tell an animation or movie fan 'the sirens from Sinbad' or their song they recognice it right away, it is trully iconic and timeless

People often compare Sirens to Mermaids (half woman half fish) and Harpies (half woman half bird) and don’t know that in the original stories of sirens they didn’t have a physical description. They were just known to be haunting voices from the sea. This is the best word to visual of them in my opinion.
So basically, those sirens would hypnotize sailors with their singing voices and lure them to their doom? Had Marina not been there on the ship, Sinbad and his men would surely be dead by now.

I love how Sinbad’s ship sets the derelict hulk free from its resting place at 3:04. Then, later on, as both are plummeting down the waterfall towards the giant jagged boulder, Maria gets a graphic demonstration as to what’ll happen to Sinbad’s ship as the derelict hulk careens out of control into the jagged boulder and breaks apart.

I always watched this movie growing up. Still one of my fav animated movies to this day. Came out in 2001, the year I was born, and now I’m 21. Eris I also developed a huge crush on and wanted to be like Sinbad XD
The scariest part was only after the sirens stoped singing they turned back to normal. That means there was no other way for them to break out of the enchantment. The moment they just hum the song they were put in the spell.
