I find myself frequently skipping ahead in these ones that don't have the troops remaining listed. After all, since we cannot see the entire battlefield, who appears to be winning in one small area could be completely loosing everywhere else.

He means the units killed and remaining for both the sides. Makes it difficult to understand which side is winning or losing if there is no number of casualties listed in the corner.
I’m not sure why the space marines are on the robots side since they were specifically created to defend humanity
They're meant to represent the iron legion, a traitor chapter serving Perturabo. Hence not fighting for humanity
