The Battle of Nicopolis, also known as the Battle of Nikopol, took place on September 25, 1396. This pivotal clash saw the Ottoman forces, led by Sultan Bayezid I, facing a coalition of Crusader armies from across Europe, including French, Hungarian, and Burgundian knights. The Crusaders aimed to break Ottoman power in the Balkans and push them out of Europe. However, underestimating the strategic prowess of Bayezid, the Crusader forces fell into a well-laid trap. Despite their valiant efforts, the Crusaders were decisively defeated, marking a significant Ottoman victory and a turning point in European history.
