- The conversation continues.
As part of our mental health and suicide prevention campaign, we welcomed Sky Sports to the home of U’s and provided a space for Will Vaulks, Luke Beauchamp, and Sharon Mangan to highlight their personal stories around loss through suicide.
Accompanied by Oxfordshire Mind, we would like to thank everyone involved for having the courage to share their stories and help others. We need to break the stigma. We Can Talk.
If you require support, we encourage you to visit Mind at www.mind.org.uk
If you require 24/7 support, contact Samaritans at www.samaritans.org
Just a moment to tell Sharon how brave she is being sharing things so early after such a personal tragedy.
The Oxford and Abingdon football community are sending their thoughts.
Well said, rightly so
Typing as a mental health social worker, an Oxford United follower and a human being - this is bloody brilliant to see. OUFC is so much more than a football club. It is integral to the community. Much kudos. Exceptional work.
Firstly I would like to thank Sharon, Luke and Will for sharing with us the terrible loss that they have suffered with there loved ones passing.
Taking ones own life seems incomprehensible to us all. For some they give no warning signs of there plight, for others there mental health struggles are very apparent. Wedo everything in our power to help them but as Luke alluded to in the video there is no reasoning with them to get the help that can help them.
Ironically I sat next to Joey in the north stand when we gained promotion against Wycombe.
I personally was in a very dark place having lost my son Jason to cancer on New Year's eve 1998.
My life was over without him, however something happened in my life that changed my life.
If talking about this helps others I would gladly lend my support at an arranged event.
God bless you all. Andy (Newbury Ox) x
This is such an important message, I hope it reaches the people who need the support.
