Acustica has been killing it for years. I’ll never ever forget some of the Nebula 3 reverbs and EQs I heard 10+ years ago. Super happy to see their plugin catalogue grow over time.

Lol grow? It has become mass production. Sometimes I think they just paint new guis and under the hood it is more or less always the same, fancy guis that's their main focus anyway. The new release is obviously not even worth to be discussed in one of the biggest music forums. Well, it's just another AA release!

Genuinely the best software compressor I've ever used -- I used a ton of AA plugins, but this one has replaced my 2bus compressor. I have an analog outboard SSL-style comp and am genuinely debating selling it because this exists (and for ITB, I was using Nebula's TimP's LBus, but this sounds better). Thank you for this video, definitely a gamechanger and you explain it very well.

Great work man, not an easy task to demo a plugin like this one in under half an hour. Tiger is outright insane. Will no doubt be taking some quality "getting to know you" time with it before bringing it into a project. You said that it is a great mastering comp as well, I get that in terms of stereo mastering but how about mid/side? A pair in series? That's a lot of programming though.
Great demo of a very deep and versatile plug. "Acustica" stuff is top notch.
A graphic display, ala "Sonible" would be a delightful, although not totally necessary addition.

You can tweak forever on this compressor, however I am not convinced by the sound of it. Makes you work hard to get anything decent out of it.

Picked up ERIN, DDS and ASH when they came out plus further big Acustica spend during BF to get Frost means I have to hold off on Tiger for now but I just remembered that SmartComp 2 has some great Attack and Release curve editing capability so I'll dig into that for now.
To run 1 acustica plugin is like having 70 waves at the same time
Their channels strips are 3-4 plugins in one, so they use up a lot of CPU. But their comps and EQs use up the same as any other company that makes advanced plugins with oversampling. They also sound better than most other companies so if you have a reasonably good computer you shouldn't be afraid to use Acustica plugins.

I really like the preamp section in some of their other plugin bundles. Blond especially. I tend to use the Blond pre anywhere i need that vibe. There are hella different channels from desks, you can do that ‘Non linear summing’ thing. If that’s your thing.

I can only tell you what to look out for when wondering if you need OS: fast settings for attack and release can create distortion/stuttering; saturation can become harsh; modeling of non-linear behavior can be less accurate and sound "flat" especially if you mix at low SR. What to look out when you DO use OS: dull the material.

It's very smooth on my M1. Tested on PC also accepts well.
I still use Acustica Cream 2 on stuff. It was a freebie years ago - neat sound.
I haven’t really wanted to buy anything from them yet because I have an older system. They make great sounding stuff but they’ve no sympathy for those not keeping up with hardware.

You seem to be the only reviewer who understood all the functionality of this compressor.
I like the review but I wish you had used a cleaner Drum Sample so that I can hear the compressor more, something with better transient.
There's literally kick and snare that couldn't be cleaner, if you can't hear transients here you can't hear them anywhere
According to Acustica CEO Giancarlo, they not only got inspiration out of vintage analogue gear. Acustica also took 'inspiration' from a VST compressor from another brand. At that time this VST compressor plugin was still in the beta phase.
Where ends the inspiration and where starts the copying?
How many 1176's, LA2A's, Farilchild emulations are out there? I'm sure you see my point.

I watched the whole video, but never did he - like he promised in the video - explain what the p-knob does. So what does the p-knob do? And does the size of the p-knob matter?

Didn’t the ratio change while you were scrubbing through the different curves?
Just asking cause you were talking about changing only one thing at a time…and as far as I tested it, the ratio knob changes it’s range and available values for every curve to imitate the available ratio values of the hardware.
So if I’m correct, the knob holds its position while scrubbing through different curves, but the values of it change with every curve and therefore you change the ratio every time you change to another curve?
Or even more simple said:
2 o’clock might be a ratio of 4 on one curve and on the next curve (while the knob stays at 2 while changing curve) 2 o’clock is a ratio of 12 for example..?

I know it's hardly possible to even use 50% of 35 AA plugins in one project, I watched how 5 instances can kill a computer because of cpu overload.
But you seem to be a collector only, I mean, the gui of AA used as screenshot could add some analog vibe haha
@@danielwetzs9317 actualy i can use a lot of acustica plugins 20-30 doesn't matter when you have 16 cores, the main rule is not to build long chains (5-6 acustica plugs), because chain is handled by a single core. But the latency of this plugins makes projects feels clumsy and not usable for production. I use a few acustica plugins only when mixing is almost done. Best eq in the box, but i stopped buying new plugins year ago, they just dont care about plugins they released after a month). I was an acustica fan few years ago and now i more like a hater)), but stil using few of their eqs.

Is it just me that Acustica Audio Plugins just don run smoothly? Everything (!) else does on my M1 Macbook but AA use to be glitchy or slow. Also I really gotta say I don't like most of their GUI.
They are higher quality than your regular plugins, so the light delay is unavoidable. But this is why you have the mix version, the even more streamlined version and the zero latency version for all of them. I'm just demo'ing the full, highest quality one here.
It’s not just you. I find them unusable. Even their plug-in manager is unbearably slow.
Tiger looks super cool, but I fear it will absolutely destroy my CPU even worse than their other plugins - I own several of them and they are very CPU intensive. Anyone know what the resource usage is?
Much much lighter than other acustica plugins. And far more responsive too, you don’t have the old interruptions in the audio when you change a setting (except the curve type). It’s their best, most usable plug-in ever.

It may be a great plugin. But: I don't see, why I should by Sand, Magenta, Pink, Camel, Cream, Nickel, etc again. I already have bought these plugins and Acustica keeps de-valuating them by flooding us with new plugins every week that do the same but different. I kinda lost track in their catalogue.
If you enjoy what Acustica plug-ins do for your mix, how can they ever be devalued? Curious analysis.

Acustica give free upgrades and this one isn't an exact match to the hardware samplings.
Think of this product as a huge workhorse of a compressor plug in that is also a technology demo. It seems the company is currently using this as a test bed for future product releases and upgrades. They already put out two new features today and maybe more are in store... They are actively seeking feedback on this one so if you have any ideas or bugs to report let them know.

I'm not sure what the difference is between the R SHMOD and just the normal release. Don't they do the same thing? Same for the attack
That control changes the shape of the release.
Same as for what I said for the attack mod: imagine your release curve is a straight line, just like a straight fade out, now you have the option of making that fade curved, one way (up) or the other (down) and all different variation of that

I hear a lot of terrible low end whoosh artifacts coming out of most of these plugs. Tried a lot of em . If you use a 4k monitor most of the older ones are kinda useless. These type of plugs seem to slow your productivity way down because getting a good tone seems to take a lot longer because everything is a huge learning curve. Sometimes too much is too much. In my opinion the visuals are kind of a mess. From bypass to on there is a lot of times a few second waiting period to hear the differences too. Thats with all the plugs because of sampling loading times. For me modeling type plugins just work faster and better. Just my opinion.
The biggest secret in pro audio .. is that you don’t really need plugins or analog gear .. there. I said it

You know, if you post comments like this, saying it's the plugin that's unnecessarily overcomplicated you might get a reply back that you won't like. Just say this is not for you.
@@mixbustv This type of interface in a plugin makes finding the right setting for the job very slow and it's the main drawback. It may be the greatest sounding plugin in a world but if you can't dial in the proper setting quickly it's useless (for me). Mixing should be fast and intuitive. You think about what you want to change in a sound and what sound you have in your mind and the tool you use to achieve that shouldn't be lenghtening the process that much. It's a waste of time. I'm speaking of myself - maybe others like to spend hours dialing in the perfect compressor setting on complicated plugin, then adjusting every reflection on a reverb plugin etc. And one month later they are happy with their mix finally
The Fire and Mix GUI options are for you then. Same technology, simpler graphical user interfaces.

Just wayyyy too many knobs. I wish these devs tone the knobs down some. It’s becoming overkill. Word to the wise. More options can sometimes take away creativity. Just make things that work. I.E. BlackBox.

@@antoine2817 Agreed all great tools, I'm always looking for stuff that improves my work flow. I have a lot of Acustica plugs, I just wish they all had the same design language. The Latest converter plug UI is in the right direction.
Some of these compressor plugins that aren't based on one actual compressor they're more like an amalgamation of multiple compressors a really getting to be quite awesome. I've been exploring the plug-in World a lot lately as far as Dynamics and compression and whatnot and I'm amazed at even some of the free ones how in-depth they are and how absolutely fuckingawesome somebody's programmers are
