    Quick question, do u know whats the diff between the Bad Boys 1 - 4?

    • @neallionaireLV
      @neallionaireLV  Рік тому +1

      Good question.. The drivetrain is the biggest difference! If you want the carbon belt drive with internal gear shifting, you have to look at the upper models.
      The lower models like the 4 have other/lesser components like gear shifter, brake levers, etc. - but the main difference is lower models have deraileur/chain drivetrains!

    my rear disk break doesn"t break very well. They say it is normal but I don't believe them. How is yours?
    Free tip: One day your front wheel will make noise. All Bad boys do that after a while. Simply spray WD40 into the front wheel hub. Save you from the agony. 😉

    • @neallionaireLV
      @neallionaireLV  4 роки тому

      Hey, what do you mean specifically? I actually notice the rear hub move slightly prior to the brake engaging. I definitely did not catch this before and I had a bike tech look at it and they couldn't find anything loose (the brake disc, or hub). It is slightly, hmmm worrying - but if my brakes aren't tremendously affected then I don't let it bother me (I am not racing or anything, and the Bad Boy still stops on a dime).
      Oh yeah! Hahah, the little bird chirp/squeak? Yeah, I heard/read about that. Thanks for the tip! Sometimes flaws make us appreciate everything else that is amazing about this Bad Boy; at least I try. Nice screen name btw.

    The bike looks amazing. What do you like the most about it and what the least?

    • @neallionaireLV
      @neallionaireLV  4 роки тому +4

      This is a tough question.
      My first thoughts that come to mind for what I like most is this has a carbon belt drive and internal gear hub. That means no oily chain, no derailuer to break or fix, super quiet / no gear changing noise... I mean - this drivetrain can probably go 100,000 miles without any service, issues, etc.
      I can think of other features to top the list easily as well; it's weight (26.8lbs) and speed for how stable/sturdy it feels, the integrated USB rechargeable lights definitely turn heads and functional; the list really can go on and on.
      What would you say is you like most?
      As for what I like least - this is interesting because I had to take a moment to really think about it. I would have to say the front lefty lightpipe system/battery's ease of removal or non-locking feature. Don't get me wrong, it works very well. And it's easy to remove to charge - which on a single charge last a long time. However my worry is leaving my bike locked and returning to find the front light system taken.
      This "what I like least" is only a concern and not an experience - but it means I have to take the battery out and carry it with me each time I leave my bike, or just carry the concern that someone walks by, recognizes the bike, and takes the front light. Silly how mind comes up with these types things, but that's it.
      What do you like most?

  • @cdawg3551
    @cdawg3551 4 роки тому +1

    Hey Neal! Quick question for you! Do you know what tension level you have the belt set to? Mine makes some rubbing noises on certain gears so I'd like a second opinion :) Thanks!

    • @neallionaireLV
      @neallionaireLV  4 роки тому +1

      CDawg, have you looked into adjusting the Shimano Alfine Hub alignment? (The process of shifting down to 1, then up to 4 - checking the alignment window; then using the barrel adjuster to adjust tension.)
      What gears are you hearing rubbing noises on?
      I have noticed occasional mis-shifts, but it may be due to shifting with too much power on the belt..

    • @cdawg3551
      @cdawg3551 4 роки тому

      @@neallionaireLV Thanks! I brought it in for quick look a couple of days ago and the tech was able to minimize the rubbing, but on the hardest gear i hear some intermittent friction, and somewhere along the middle gear too. I have to bring the bike in on Friday for a full inspection. Hopefully they figure it out :) I've used the gates carbon belt app to gauge the hertz, but I'm not sure if the bike should be tuned 100% as internal gear (~40-50 hertz) or somewhere between that and mountain bike (~75 hertz).

    I feel compelled to buy this bike, but for now I know I'll just sit it in my living room and look at it.
    I've fallen off the wagon and dont ride much these days and tell myself to go right back and do it as I remember all the fun and health benefits it gave me.. I've demoted myself to couch surfing these past few years.. Maybe this will motivate me.
    Is this the 2nd gen gates belt drive with the center drive channel? I built a bike with the first gen and the alfine 8 IGH.. great bike, more for trekking than for sportin', enough drag in the drive and the IGH to notice it.. but it wasnt a big deal.. just not a friction-less endeavor if I'm being honest.
    Any less tension on my belt and it would start to slowly walk off the front chain ring, you had to get it juuust right. And as for the IGH, well..there is always some drag. That said, this setup makes for a very VERY tidy and maintenance free setup.
    Beautiful bike too.. But they did always look bad ass!

    • @neallionaireLV
      @neallionaireLV  4 роки тому

      Hey, I appreciate the awesome message! Sounds like you know more about it thank I do! This is the centerline belt drive, and although I've only had the bike since end of summer last year, it rides seamless: feels responsive (tight), and I don't feel loosening or break-in with the belt drive.
      I've seen some pretty amazing Bad Boy builds, with lots of accessories, bags, etc. I know they market this bike as an ultra urban commuter, but in all aspects - its a fairly rugged and gnarly rigid gravel bike! The mtb frame and the 40mm WTB Byway tires handle everything I put infront of this Bad Boy and I don't really hold back.
      Besides being fast on the street, this Bad Boy had seen green and blue single-track, and with no derailuer or chain to maintain or bang/break: I like the ideal of a Gates Belt Drive and Internal Gear Hub on my MTB... thoughts on that!?

  • @ThisGuy76
    @ThisGuy76 4 роки тому +1

    How do you like the belt drive? How well would this work as a road commuter?

    • @neallionaireLV
      @neallionaireLV  4 роки тому +9

      Andre, hey. The belt drive is surprisingly amazing. It feels seamless; very smooth and quiet. The internal gear hub really makes the belt drive shine: each shift is super quick, with one small click. And the belt drive and the internal get hub doesn't lag, or slip. And of course with the belt drive, there's no chain to oil, no mess or oil on your pant leg, I think it would make a great road commuter.
      It is advertised as a urban commuter, because of the integrated lights, geometry, etc. And the 40mm tires are great going over uneven pavement, small drops (Cannondale manual says up to 12" drops), and the center is still slick and fast.
      The Shimano Alfine 8 is 8 gears. 4 seems to feel like 'direct rotation' on the hub, and 4 to 8 have great range. 3, 2, are super low - so they are great for climbing hills quick. I am typically on 4-8, and rarely use 2, or 1.
      What are your thoughts or worries?

      You'll have the best looking bike in your group, that's for sure. And if your friends are casual bikers with casual bikes - you'll probably be the fastest too. I have to take my mountain bike when I ride around with friends because I am constantly on my brakes when I am on my Bad Boy 1. I don't know if it's the lack of rolling resistance, smooth ride, or I am in better shape than them (but I constantly roll past them and have to brake all the time so I'm now 20 miles ahead of them, hahah).
      One of my Canadian friends was like, "I have to ride this cheap bike and you have the Ferrari of bikes over here!"

    Alright neal what is the difference between this and the badboy 2 is it just the drive belt? Hope all is well ✌️

    • @neallionaireLV
      @neallionaireLV  4 роки тому

      William, hello. You are exactly right.. the big price jump and difference between the Bad Boy 2 and the Bad Boy 1 is the Gates Belt Drive, and the Shimano Alfine Gear Hub (8).
      The Bad Boy 2 is amazing. But it does also have a front derailleur (2 gears in the front), making this 18 speed, versus the Bad Boy 1's 8 speed. The front derailleur also means another shifter and cable in the front. And the price jump probably factors in the maintenance of chain versus the internal gear hub and belt on the Bad Boy 1.
      I didn't get to ride a Bad Boy 2 - so I can't say if the gear ratio is larger. Who knows, it can be faster than the Bad Boy 1. But I will tell you this, if you ride over curbs, drops, or road bumps a lot - the Bad Boy 1 will be super quiet compared to the Shimano Altus derailleur on the Bad Boy 2.
      Have you seen the youtube video "Badboy for life - Cannondale Bikes" by Chris Smith btw? Its pretty impressive.

      Hey, I am 5'10" about 170-175lbs, and this is a size Medium.

      They did a good job sizing - I do get nice reach for pedaling, and have to get on my tip-top to properly get onto the bike/seat; and the reach for my handlebars are comfortable but not sitting too tall like a cruiser bike. The Bad Boy has a little reach for more aggressive/speed position.
