This reminds me of the lady that promised her husband she would bury all his money with him when he died. When he died, she and her friend were at the wake and her friend asked her if she really put all his money in the casket with him. The wife said, "Yes, I did". The friend asked her where she put it because that was a lot of money. The wife replied, "I wrote him a check!"
When I was learning to play hockey as a goalie in high school, my grandfather visited from Arizona. He came to practices and laughed quite a bit as I fell over and over. He got a lot of joy out of those times and said he was proud of me. When he died not long after, I got a puck from one of our winning games and Dad put it in his suit coat pocket. I hope it still makes him smile all these years later. It does me.
My dad was cremated rather than being buried, but when we scattered his ashes, each family member shared a story about something he had done in their life. Mine was teaching me to sing, and appreciation of classical music.
Dimebag just weeks before his death told Eddie how much he loved the Bumblebee Guitar and asked Ed to give him a replica, after he died Van Halen said a legend deserves an original!! Gave Dimedag his original Guitar!! Class on Eddie's part!!
My daughter's best friend was a little person. She stood only 3 feet tall. Because of her physical condition, there were a lot of things she could not do so she took up the coloring books that are made for adults and she did some magnificent pictures. When she suddenly passed away, her mother suggested her friends might like to put coloring pages in her casket. I understand there were tons of them.
When my mother was dying from cancer, my dad put a string on her hospital bed and attached the other end to his wrist; he was deaf without hearing aids. He put that in her casket with a note that stated that was their last live line until he saw her again.
My great-grandmother lived through the Great Depression and all her life she carried a folded up dollar bill tucked away in her wallet, so she was never ‘completely broke’. When she passed, my mom and my aunt tucked a folded dollar bill into her hand before she was buried.
Tony Curtis being buried with all of those items reminds me of an episode of The Golden Girls where Blanche told Rose, "Rose it's a coffin, not a condo." 😂
My sister put a cribbage board and the perfect hand of cards in our grandmother’s casket. Knowing how much she loved cards, it brought a smile to the faces of our family as they paid their respects.
Milliwatt Rob, very sorry for your loss. But I found a lot of humor in your comment with the American Express card. Your pops must have been a funny guy
My son's great grandmother was a special woman, and she loved him dearly. I loved her because she always saw the best in me. I served her her last meal of ice cream. When she said she didn't want it, I knew it was her time. I told her to not worry I will do everything she had asked of me. Her funeral was beautiful. I placed a small flashlight in her casket and her favorite picture of Carlos. His father asked why the flashlight ? Haha told me I don't like the dark, and she didn't want to get lost in it on her way to the Light. That was 25 years ago this year.
For my grandma all her kids (5) and grandkids put roses in her casket. She was buried in the same cemetery as my cousin (her granddaughter) who’s name was rose. My best friend passed when we were 16 and we put all kinds of stuff in with her. Her mom let her friends out in one thing that reminded them of her

I miss them both.
I put a fishing lure a hat with my grandfather when he died. He always wore a hat. And loved fishing it was the last thing I got to do with him. He died only 2 days later of a massive heart attack. Everyone was asked what they wanted as a memory of our grandfather I said I only wanted his fishing pole the one he used all the time. I still have it to this day. I don't use it but I know it's here and always reminds me of him.
I was actually going to mention Darrell Abbott being buried with Eddie's "Bumblebee" guiter if it wasn't mentioned. I was a friend of his and attended his funeral.
A few years before my Mother passed away I hand made her a Quilt for her birthday. She never put it on her bed or used it because she was afraid it would get dog hair on it. I ask her to please use it because that is what I made it for, but she never did. So when she went into a retirement home I sent it with her to use, after she passed away I had it placed in her coffin with her to keep her feet warm. Because she always had cold feet. My brother was buried in his favorite football jersey and cap and many other football items for the team he loved for over 40 yrs.

I have deceased friends who held the Offices of Baron and Baroness in the Society for Creative Anachronism. They died together in a car wreck. They were buried in their Baronial formal costumes and wearing their Coronets. Bill also had a bottle of Beam's Choice and a clown nose, as well as several books of filk songs.
@victoriabagwell8426 My friends Bill and Sherry were the first Baron and Baroness of Cuoer D'Ennui (Des Moines, IA) in the kingdom of Calontir. They died 40 years ago. I feel the pang of loss every time I think of them. My health has been a bit dodgy my entire life, and I've outlived many of the people I thought I would be growing old with. I turn 70 the end of this month.

I am enjoying these keep up the good work. I want to share what my beloved cousin was buried with, he died at 35 of cancer in 2004. Coach Walt, as he was known, coached high school wrestling. His boys won state in 2003 which was the last year he could coach them. When he died they all came to the funeral and we the family didn't know it until it was our time to take that last look and goodbye but those boys had brought their metals from state and laid them on his chest. When they closed his casket for the last time it looked like he was wearing armor. My uncle's dad was a brick layer by trade and when he died my uncle (by marriage) had a model of a brick laying job that he put in with his dad. When my uncle died we put in his favorite NASCAR model he built and his pride and joy (a picture of a bottle of Pride and a bottle of Joy) that he would ask everyone if they wanted to see a picture of his pride and joy every where he went then show them that picture.
When we buried our Dad, each of us kids put an item of special meaning in his casket. My older sister was a pilot, so she put her pilot's wings on Dad's suit lapel. Each year at Christmas, our Dad received a Play Boy calendar, so my older brother put a small calendar with naked women in his casket. My twin sister, found a flashlight just like the one that our Dad always used to carry in his back pocket at night when doing chores, so she wrote a poem and put it inside the flashlight and put it in his casket As for me, I had a miniature sized stuffed bear that I always took with me on all of my trips, and I put that in his casket for one last trip. My brother in law who was in the Air Force had some coins from different countries he had been stationed at, and he put them in Dad's pants pocket. No one, not even our Mom, knew that we had done all of this. So when our Dad's casket was being moved to be put in the hearse, those coins fell out of his pocket and clanged onto the bottom of the metal casket! Needless to say there were a lot of shocked people! All of us kids, were laughing so hard, and our Mom was shocked and demanded to know what we had done and when we could stop laughing we finally told her what we had done.
My grandfather passed in December, the last year he slept more anything. The last time we truly saw him light up and be his normal self was when my son showed him the lightsaber he built. When my grandfather passed, my son had to buy a lightsaber to be buried with him.

My Father always told me to place $1.50 in his suit pocket for a cup of coffee on the way, and .50 cents in dimes so he could use a pay phone to let us know he has arrived, I did just that, don’t know if he ever got his coffee but we never did get a phone call, apparently I didn’t give him enough to make the call or he couldn’t find a pay phone
My son died in 2009 of T1D. He had 2 Teddy's that he received for his 3rd birthday that he kept with him until his death. He moved, they moved. I put them in his casket before they closed it. Another move for my baby and his 32 year old friends.😓💕

My great grandmother's sister made my mother promise that when she died my mom would go to the funeral open a can of coke, {my aunts favorite drink} take a sip, and put it in the casket with her. Aunt Juicy {i couldnt say her real name when i was learning to speak so i called her Aunt Juicy} told mom she would haunt her if she didnt. When she passed and mom went to the services and did as she had been told, much to my grandmothers mortification, mom told her point blank she didnt want to be haunted so mom did her due diligence, she opened a can of coke and did as she had been told and saw Aunt Juicy had made several people promise this to her because her casket was lined with open coke cans! God rest her i hope shes still enjoying those cokes up in heaven!

It was this boy in the hospital Elvis Presley heard he was sick he came to the hospital and took off his belt and gave to the boy and when the boy died they buried the belt with the boy
I think everyone who is buried should have some photos and information about them in a sort of time capsule, so if ever dug up in the future they will know all about them.
Thanks Whittdocs!!!! I was reading comments, and read where this woman wanted to be buried with a Teddy Bear her parents gave her, and photos of you and her kids. I thought, "why does this woman want to be buried with Whittdocs photo?! I mean, he's a nice enough guy, but"!!!! Then I looked at the name, and thought, "Oh, OK"!!!! Duhhhhhhhh!!!! Me, like most Catholics, I want to be buried with my Rosary. Not sure what else. Oh, HAPPY DERBY DAY!!!! Hey, why don't you do one on Famous Jockeys and Horses?! That would be interesting!!!!
My step father was buried with his favorite pictures of us together on a Navy ship in the Philippines. He had been in WWII in The Pacific and wounded in Subic Bay.

My mom died on Christmas of 2021 . My brother's and I each left her one distinctive thing I left her a Rosary 📿 . The socks have been a private personal joke between the two of them for years....

This isn't quite the same but, my brother-in-law who was an avid golfer, passed away recently from cancer. Ironically his favourite golf course is near the cemetery, and as he planned his own funeral, he made sure his final resting spot faced the golf course!

We always teased that when my grandmother passes, she'll have lipstick in her casket. She's a military wife, had to have that lipstick on no matter what. As for me...I think I'd be buried with my anime collection and Nintendo Switch. lol
Americans were not the only nation to experience the loss and sadness of a very wonderful man and a father and President . I was in grade 7 when we were informed by our teacher that there ad been the muder of JFK . I'm a Canadian citizen born and raised here .. but it still hurt us too. Why ? Because we are neighbors .
My Grandpa Was Cremated With A Budweiser Beer Bottle. The Last Beer He Ever Drank, He Died Before He Could Finish It. I Finished It For Him. I Put A Beer In His Hand In His "Viewing" Casket, Before I Stepped Up & Gave A Eulogy, & Believe It Or Not, The Funeral Director Said "IF U Drink That Beer & Take The Label Off, We'll Cremate Him With The Beer Bottle." So I Drank It, Put It Back In His Casket & Well, He Was Cremated With A Beer For Heaven.
Who was the famous actress that was actually buried with her favorite car? Sorry, she was not an actress. She was the wife of a millionaire. A socialite. Her name was Sandra West. She was buried with her powder blue Ferrari. Buried in the front seat of that car in an elegant white nightgown. I love my Caddie too but not only that much.
When my son died his 6 year old daughter wrote him a note of how much she loves him. I put it in his hands.
