I've put about 15000 miles on my 400, I've had it for I think 2 years now and I try and ride every chance I get, and I'm still not bored with it. Every time I thought I needed more power the bike would prove to me I really didn't. the things a blast and is pretty good at wheelies even . I've only had about one issue with it, and that would be the clutch springs. The original clutch springs were a little weak and caused my clutch to slip only after about 5000 miles. It wasn't a big issue at all, though. i just upgraded the clutch spring for about $30, and the clutch was better than ever. It even gave the clutch a little stiffer feel, not much though. I'd love to add the oil Indeed, does get dark crazy fast.
@FishOnTV (Jarod Valenti) I'm a bit late to respond, but if you haven't picked yet, I would definitely recommend the 400. I can't say if the rebel is fun or not, I haven't riden one before. But I almost guarantee there is a lot more to learn on a ninja or z400 they are light reactive and very fast for a first bike. I really do think you would get bored of any other bike before you got bored of the ninja. I really do see myself owning it for as long as I'm able to. When I upgrade, I don't see myself getting rid of it.
Oil is supposed to go black It tells you that it's working plus you have to remember your oil in your bike not as much as your motor but also it lubricate transmission and your clutch so is doing double duty don't worry about oil turning black that means it's actually working Don't compare your car to your bike because they're two different animals

I went from a 900 CC bike to a Ninja 400. I've been riding for 12 years and still like my lightweight 400 more than a big bike. The Ninja 400 delivers a package that's hard to beat with the power and weight. It's a bike that is easy to learn on but rewards you more the more experience you get.
