Taku! I remember you’re first few videos after 10 minutes you only have couple hundred viewers now it’s in the thousands! Congrats man! Fan since day 1! Have fun in the motherland!
how taku doesnt have over 2 or 3 million subs yet boggles my mind, your videos and cooking are A plus top notch, you blow all those youtuber cook short people out of the water
Just rewatched this again. Taku, YOURE not only a great FISHERMAN and CHEF, but you're also a great TEACHER. The "student" subscriber that did the fillet job did such an AWESOME job man. I fillet fish pretty well, but I've also learned something about processing fish watching your videos. I use a Rapala fillet knife, but I need to step up my game and get me a nice Chefs Knife. Great Video as always TAKU,.🍻 CHEERS FROM THE 416 IN TORONTO 🍻
Hello Taku and Jocelyn, we have been watching you for quite a while. We love what you are doing but rarely comment. This trip however is amazing, I just had to jump on and say something. To see your little niece and how she just looks up to you and loves you is just so touching. What a great trip, we wish you and Jocelyn all the best. Thank you for sharing so much great stuff. Danny and Kim, San Diego, CA
Knife is life! im just a simple person who loves to cook and really love japanese food.. It is always my dream of having a real japanese knife.. Big fan here from Philippines..
Hey man, I don’t usually comment but I just wanted to say I’ve been a fan for a long time but I just recently got back into your videos. It’s such a nice change of pace to the whole hustle and bustle that seems to encompass the internet these days. Just some good people enjoying good fishing and good food. It’s the simple things in life! Your videos do a great job at reminding me of that. Have fun on your trip! Japan is #1 on my list of places to visit. Seems like a great place and I’ve always had a thing for (probably heavily americanized) Japanese food.
Take, you’re such an amazing, selfless human. Thanks for offsetting alit of turds in this world. We need you. ❤️ Jocelyn, don’t think you go unnoticed. I saw you helping in the background. I’m not sure which of you tells you to sit down and be a little less selfless once in awhile. But it’s certainly clear you two have found a balance. Happy for you both. Please keep being awesome, You Two. Sending all the love and safe travels. Good luck on the King, Taku!!
24:45 There's a cute white dog Great video Taku! I found you through your Alaska adventures, and have become a daily viewer. Cooking is also what got me into fishing and the next big buy will be a fishing kayak!
I live in KY. I have a cousin who married a Japanese girl. They used to live in Osaka and moved to the mainland. He took over a abandon home on a mountain. He is the crazy guy in the family. His honeymoon he horse backed thru Mongolia for a month. Great video!
Taku, please adopt me, my wife and our two boys so we can tag along! You're living life to the fullest, bro. Appreciate living vicariously through your vids!!
I wanted to thank you for the yet another lesson on filleting fish. I've been filleting fish for 50 years, but was never that good at it. Last week I caught a 16" Pompano, and per your instructions had near perfect fillets in a pan in under an hour from time of catch. You might consider the Florida Panhandle on a future catch and cook adventure!
Yay another outdoor chef video! Enjoying all your adventures and since I’m in NZ now, can’t wait till you are back in NZ too. And if there is a subscriber trip that would be super awesome! I also just went on a canal fishing trip and fishing is really enjoyable!!
I never get tired of watching you clean and filet the fish. You do an excellent job of explaining and showing us how to do it. I will definitely do a better job next time I give it a try. You must admit you make it look so easy. I know it took a lot of practice. Also the knife has to be really sharp. Any way thanks for showing us some aspects of Japan . The bento boxes look so nice. I wish those were available everywhere in the world. Keep up the great work. Love you both. You make UA-cam fun. Peace
Great video Taku! That was a day I know I would never forget. Some amazing fish caught today! Man, your knife skills are beyond awesome. I had some sashimi today and it was good but they cut it at least 1/2” thick. I prefer the thinner stuff like you do. The food looked so good. Thanks for sharing!
Excellent video from Japan! Taku’s filleting technique is flawless due to years of professional practice. It’s harder to do than it looks. Fishing in Hawaii for decades, it’s tradition to give away lots of our fish to neighbors and friends. We caught mostly Mahi Mahi, Ono, Aku, and Ahi. Aku (Skipjack tuna), we’d give away whole. The rest we’d fillet and put in gallon ziplock bags to pass out to neighbors. We usually caught way more than we could eat, and freezing fish is frowned upon in Hawaii. Fresh off the boat is the way to go. What you can’t eat fresh, you give away so that everyone can eat it fresh off the boat. If a neighbor got more fresh fish than they could eat, they’d call family or friends to come get some. It’s never frozen for later. That’s the rules. A huge Japanese population and influence in Hawaii, we adopted their styles of fishing and love for sashimi and rice. Depending on how many fish we caught, the fish was divided evenly between my friend, (the captain) and me, (first mate). We were fishing partners, not many wanted to go 40 miles out to sea in rough channel waters with us so we had no “guests” on board, just us two. Sometimes we’d spend hours cleaning fish and since he didn’t particularly like fish (strange for a professional fisherman), he’d fillet his fish very professionally and give it all away. I love fish but have a particular fondness for the bone meat. So when I filleted my fish I’d purposely leave lots of meat on the bone. Maybe keep a few fillets for me and my girlfriend and give the rest of the fillets away as well. While cooking both the fillets and bone meat side by side in a pan, my girlfriend grew more fond of the bone meat than the fillets. (She understood) The reason is, the meat closest to the bone has a texture like crab and the meat on any animal is better tasting closer to the bone. (When cooked anyway) And it’s a different eating experience. It’s not wolfing down huge chunks of meat, it’s more like picking tiny morsels with chopsticks. Like picking at crab meat, every bit is a delectable delicacy. It’s a fun and rewarding experience. So, I’d give most my fish away, but save the bone with plenty meat on it for us to enjoy. Dipping pieces of hard-won bone meat in drawn garlic-butter is a whole lot like a crab feast. Every little piece means something and you have to work at it a little bit. We enjoyed the whole trip of it. I can fillet a fish almost as good as Taku but usually choose not to. That bone meat. Man that’s good!
It’s my dream, before I die, to do ocean fishing! I adore fishing but I haven’t even managed to catch a salmon yet. I’ve been fishing since I was a kid but good fish seem to evade me. I am definitely living vicariously through you ! What a cool trip this was!
Love all the videos. We need you to do a Bahamas trip and make some fresh conch ceviche/shashimi… I’m here in Redding, you need to come out to shasta lake!
Damn, it's been 4 years since you've been in japan? That means I've been in this channel for more than that. I still remember when you caught that mahi mahi with azusa
THANK YOU SO VERY VERY VERY MUCH. FOR TEACHING ALL OF US MORE ABOUT HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT ALL THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE. PLEASE KEEP UP ALL YOUR SHOWS AND MAKE MORE FUN TIME SIR.
Basic knife skills, cooking skills, eating skills- should be taught in shool everywhere. We had "cooking classes" in middle school, that taught about 50% how to boil potatoes and roots. Some say you should learn from your parents, but parents vary extremely in knowlege on "the big three"- Food- Economy- Trade(not selling and buying).
Bring your family to the USA for some fishing adventures, eating and cooking experiences. Also, I want to see OCL go to Norway or Iceland series of cooking and fishing please. Thanks Joslyn N Taku!
What a beautiful sea to start the Day Fishing❤. I hope the people treat you better now that you have guests😡. Awesome haul today by your trip goers🎉. Yummy meal Taku🌞. Enjoy🎊😊. JO JO IN VT 🇺🇲💞
Another great video! I am always amazed with your filleting skills!! I'm curious why you have 2 UA-cam channels? Hope I am not being too nosey and this is not a critisim, I am just curious. Thanks
Over-packaging seems to be crazier in Japan than in the USA. Did not think it was possible. Almost every vegetable is individually packaged as if it was a first born. At least the madaï snappers were not lol.
Looking forward to more nz videos. We have a couple of good youtubers here. Be good to see a collab. We have some good trout fishing around Rotorua. Keep up the great work you two.👍🏼
Taku I'm just wondering if there is a slot for red snapper in Japan and how many can you take is it as United States does it matter wether you are in charter boat or you are in a personal boat or kayak I'm a subscriber and watch the varieties of videos in your channel as I'm been following you through New Zealand great videos love the catch and cook thank you.
Taku please do one of these in new zealand me and im sure many other people would love the oppurtunity to come fish with you!!! Also if you did do this how would one sign up for the chance to come?
Taku, it would be extra excellent if in your UA-cam channel culinary adventures, you would make using biodegradable utensils and pieces/parts, as much as possible. I know Japan is hard, plastic is like toilet paper. Biodegradable products are as much an oddity as a western toilet! 😅 loved this episode. ❤
So you caught snapper in NZ how different are the Japanese snapper from the Kiwi ones and do they have them on West coast USA afterall its probably closer than NZ from Japan. From the video they look very similar do they have the blue spots etc is the shape close or exact the Aussie ones have bumpier foreheads than the Kiwi ones.
Taku! I remember you’re first few videos after 10 minutes you only have couple hundred viewers now it’s in the thousands! Congrats man! Fan since day 1! Have fun in the motherland!

I have to say Taku fillets a fish better than anybody I’ve seen, I never tire of watching him. So nice clean and smooth.
I agree. I’ve seen many people do it but he makes it extra satisfying

The way the fishermen handle the fish is respectful of the life they are taking.
such a joy to watch you work
Please do one in northern Japan. Crabs!
Hopefully I can go on one of these trips in the future. I'm jus watching all jealous and getting hungry for that delicious looking food

Taku. Please do a NZ subscriber trip! I’d be super keen. Great to see Australian Snapper being caught in Japan.

He calls them snapper in English. Could be red snapper/bream 'madai' or Australasian snapper/sliver sea bream 'Goushu-madai'

Taku's content is legit entertaining.
