The reason you don't walk through the middle of the middle gate is because that's where the spirits walk. For the same reason when you go up or down the stairs you're supposed to use the left or right side, not the middle of the stairs.

Done quick google about Kanda shrine and it looks it was in anime Love Live!. In anime it was portrayed as the shrine where Nozomi Tojo helps out as a shrine maiden. So that's why there was so many tiles with anime characters.

I love the "title cards" for each temple. The red text and the filter over footage makes it feel like something out of some move. I can't seem to remember which movie tho.

Suggestion: Add temple etiquette to your website, like "coming into a temple or shrine looking at things for one minute and then leaving is probably considered disrespectful by people who take that religion seriously." Because I bet there will be people trying to do "actual speedruns" once such a site exist…

Zojo-ji was the most emotional experience of all the shrines - seeing the Sentai Kosodate Jizō and all the small decorated statues representing unborn children, including miscarried, aborted, and stillborn children was unexpected and was extremely moving.
Also, going to senso-ji before the tourist area opens in the morning was excellent. The Buddhist priests were doing their prayers over a fire, and was a great experience to witness with locals and no tourists in what is usually a very bustling place.

@lushfruit what a gigachad, I didn't think it would happen lmao! Any thoughts on %age categories, like maybe a NoRunning% (no running anywhere, even outside on the streets / between spots), or maybe an onigiri % where you have to eat an onigiri at a nearby konbini after each spot? Would certainly slow people down. Anyways, I genuinely might try out a speedrun when I visit this November (with respect in mind, of course)

@@lushfruit RESPECC% where you have to complete all the side quests at each spot (when applicable). Like pulling for luck, buying a drink at a vending machines, bowing at every gate, etc. Lol

This is deliciously insane on so many levels: 1) we get to see who lushfruit actually is (I actually figured he was just a gremlin who had set up an automatic comment asking for a speedrun for the fun of it) 2) t-shirts were made for this and 3) the utter mad lad actually got us a Temple speedrun. Awesome!

How is this a speed run? Mudan backtracked several times. The path wasn't efficient at all. Mudan has to do it again, but properly.
Zojoji has a very fun matsuri on New Year's Eve - definitely worth considering if you're in Tokyo at the right time!
