      Hello, some people are misinterpreting the point I made about creative people being underpaid so I just want to elaborate !!
      People within the creative community (freelance artists, designers, editors) are routinely underpaid for their work because there’s very little transparency in the creative industry as most fees are negotiated privately. This means that many have to figure out how much to charge on their own, and don’t often know whether it’s enough or too much. This can lead to huge discrepancies between freelance creatives in terms of fees, with people getting paid massively differing amounts for the same job. This is where a bit of transparency can help everyone earn a fair amount, by sharing fees and commission rates more widely: people can better understand what their labour is worth and be paid fairly.
      This can also apply to UA-camrs with brand deals. It’s quite well known that many creators (especially smaller creators) are exploited by brands because the creator doesn’t know what they should be charging. There are also deeper layers to this where we routinely see black creators being paid less than white creators for the same social reach because brand deals are done in private and set rates aren’t established. Creators don’t know what they should be charging unless they have a friend at a similar level to help them navigate it. This is why lots of companies target masses of smaller/growing UA-camrs to promote products: they know that these creators are less likely to know their worth. “Underpaid” is relative, but ultimately it doesn’t matter if a creator is charging $50 or $50,000 - if their advertising space is worth more, they should be paid more. The lack of transparency harms the entire industry because it directly benefits the advertisers whilst exploiting the creators. Whilst no one should complain about getting paid huge amounts for an ad read, and you can’t really argue that $50K is truly “underpaid”: it is still important to recognise that advertisers should be paying consistent and fair rates for the reach that creators offer them.
      Hope this helps further explain the point I was making!! 💙

    I appreciate the transparency. Talking about income, regardless of career, is the only way to hold employers/platforms accountable for inequalities in payroll. I don’t want more of what happened with the Twitch data leak, but if more people could come forward and be candid I think it would help.

    • @Ellbat
      @Ellbat  2 роки тому +110

      Yes!! This is exactly what I was trying to say at the beginning. Creative people are so routinely exploited, whether they’re artists or editors or designers because so much of their freelance work is negotiated privately. It leaves so much room for exploitation. I completely agree with you!! A little bit of transparency can go a long way! ❤️

      @@Ellbat absolutely! I’m sure the problem is exacerbated in private freelance projects, cuz art is subjective and non-artists don’t know or care what work it takes. Thanks for clarifying all this! Between the revenues from the youtube video itself, the sponsoring, twitch, and your clothing brand, you must be making a decent amount! And you deserve every penny! How much do sponsors pay for a plug in your video if you don't mind me asking?
    Much love to you and keep up the good work!

    So many influencers say that they know they're so privileged and so grateful but they don't do anything about it. Elena is the first one I've seen in a very long time (other than the green brothers) actually do something with that privilege

    I have never thought about how it all works. I do find it interesting that the advertising works. I never notice any kind of advertising. I am either waiting to punch the skip button or just instantly disengaged. A ingrained talent I learned from tv. Do others really watch commercials? Please don't think I am down talking your way of making money at all. I enjoy videos, and appreciate your creativity. I honestly am just surprised that people are in any way influenced by advertising. Thank you for being you and sharing. I always enjoy catching up with you. Anyone who makes us smile is golden and deserves success. You are golden.

    Lol, just yesterday was wondering about some of the things you explained in your video😂 Thanks so much for taking the time and enlighten us what's going on behind the scenes of the dark UA-cam-verse 🤣 Out of curiosity, for how long is one of your sponsor videos sponsored?

    • @Ellbat
      @Ellbat  2 роки тому +1

      Just the ad section is sponsored in my videos, I’m only contracted to be sponsored for that one part - but you can get sponsors that cover the entire video length (such as my sex Ed videos which are sponsored entirely by Lelo) ❤️

    This is a nice behind the scenes of how UA-cam pays for views. How does the revenue work when you start advertising for things like Skillshare and Manscaped? Maybe a video on that subject if you wish to share?

    • @Ellbat
      @Ellbat  2 роки тому +21

      You usually negotiate a rate with the company and set terms in a contract. Most contracts terms attached that mean you aren’t allowed to discuss aspects of the deal publicly (things like cost, specific advertising points etc), and so I’m not really allowed to share much! But I am really grateful for sponsors because they provide income security in an industry that can be a bit uncertain at times!! X

    Good for you making $$ doing things out there :) YouTb takes a big chunk and creators get some too, I don't get the math of it but no need to stress over things as long as it keeps coming in. Side note, maybe a Mic stand to mount that big black knob down and not waving all over so much as it is pretty distracting ;)

    First of all, love you Ell❤
    Just love watching you being you exploring almost everything.😂🎉
    My question is something only you can answer as a UA-camr considering the uniquely innovative and dissociated niches you pick on a single channel.
    Im inspired to do something similar talking about random niches I’m passionate about since I can’t figure out a single one I have expertise in 😅
    Since it’s quite opposite of the idea of mastering a niche on a unique channel (almost all the other UA-camrs I have come across have hyper-focused channels. If they want to do something different they make another account and that is almost always in line with the first channel), I’m confused whether it’s the right way to go about it.
    Hope you answer 🎉

    The crazy thing of this is watching male You Tubers do similar videos and their RPM is ridiculously higher. Yes many are in different categories but it just goes to show you that money still follows male interests more than women. This would be a great collab to do with some different creators and discuss what the factors are.

    I think that location has a huge impact on whether on not the product can be bought in that region. In Europe everything outside the EU has MASSIVE amounts of import taxes, so I rarely shop from the States. And sometimes the products are not even available for European shipping, so it makes no sense when I get adds for things I cannot even buy as much as I would like to (I am looking at you, f*ing Scentbird).
