One of the most useful videos on portrait painting - all the planning has got to be worth the time, thanks so much and also thank you for putting all this information out there for free, it's extremely generous of you
Dear Ben, you are a great and wonderful man - thanks a lot for your passion in sharing with us your valuable experience! Stay Safe and Well! God Bless you!
Thank you Ben, I enjoy your videos and have learned so much about colour mixing skin tones. I really look forward to any other painting videos you may decide to publish.
Mr. Lustenhouwer, your portraits are beautiful and your explantations are clear, interesting, amusing and very helpful. Of all the things one can paint, portraits and figures are the most intriguing subject for me. You are a gifted artist AND teacher. And, yes, I'm spending much more time painting during the pandemic lock down. I am enjoying cruising your videos for inspiration and information. Thank you!!
Ben, thanks so much for your sharing your wonderful work with us. Passionate, believable, masterly and compelling are the words I would associate with your posts. We are privileged to have you on UA-cam.
You are helping make better paintings. First be safe. Stay home. My brother is Chairman Radiology Mayo Clinic- “until 60% get it not going away” I used to call my planning the “first painting “. Amazing how my second attempt was always so much better. I’ve been having trouble with correct blues thank you for tip on small painting. I went back and looked at on old disks all my old drawings, live class paintings that were never finished for self examination. Opportunity lost great models lost because I could have taken better pictures or used the two hour class to do a good first painting. Lastly, the comment about “too many planes in the face” I am experimenting with it . I know some really help . I have to constantly remind myself of what I see and what the structure of the face really is especially painting with one eye. Anyway thank you got my camera set up also. I appreciate your taking time for us.
Thank you for sharing your gift and wisdom gained! I’m currently binging on your videos and have already picked up hints that I know will improve my painting skill.
Wonderful lessons and beautiful portrait Ben thankyou , the fewer the planes the more powerful the painting, such a great principle. We are spoiled getting such knowledge that many learned over years by trial and error.😊
Love your channel Mr. Ben, thank you so much for creating all this free content. For us painters just starting and dealing with so many challenges, its very helpful to watch you paint.
Omg! Ben, I love your planning, and yes I agree your painting should be planned out, 👍👍❤👍👍 your style Sir! Great ! Pgm...Your a UA-camTv pgm in the making...thanks for sharing in these times of trouble... God Bless you Ben and your future program...👍👍👍👍❤👍👍👍👍
Once again, Mr. Lustenhouwer, you have given us such succinct and valuable information. You get right to the point! Each video gives me tidbits that help in my painting journey. I appreciate your generosity in sharing your knowledge. I must admit I was disappointed in the camera fiasco that shortened the video, as I’m sure you were. It only makes me more eager to view the next one! Thank you again. Judith Herring
So happy you’re making some recent videos as I’ve watched the older ones often, and learned so much from them, thank you Ben, you’re my favorite portrait painter and an inspiration 🙏
Thank you for your time and instructions, I'm an amateur artist now that I'm stuck at home like so many others I decided to improve my skill I appreciate these small lessons.
I really enjoy your demonstration of playing with possibilities in the sketches - nd the fact that you show how you go for a likeness helhed from the Photo and year work freely to make a good painting and not just a copy of the Photo - and a very good way of showing the underpainting in Acrylic ( and by the way I really like what you called the spooky colors
I’m terrible at calculating ratios too. Would you mind doing a video on just the method you used here to determine the canvas size? I love that you’re making videos again; would really enjoy a full length real time portrait video from you!! Stay well!
Thanks for your kind and generous approach to your videos and painting info. This has helped me very much. I took a few of your courses online a few years ago. Excellent. Love the studio views and tips and tricks.
wonderful execution. i always learn more from traditional paintings and process even though i paint digitally. your videos is a great resource for learning.
Ha! You make me feel so good. I also begin with an acrylic base on my paintings and look for luminosity with the oils as a second step. I had to order terra rosa and red oxide so now I'm dead in the water till they arrive. This video is breathtaking. I actually loved the jump to the finished product as it was a nice surprise. What else to do during this isolation but TRY to acquire another skill. The fewer the planes the more powerful the work--not easy.
!! I totally ordered terra rose after watching another of his videos on skin tones. 🙂. It’s supposed to come in a week and I can’t wait to experiment with it and yep. And don’t even get me started on the struggle to conquer the planes of the face with subtlety - very very hard indeed! Stay safe and well and great luck in your isolation/quarantine art journey!
Wooow! This is close to the way I plan my artwork. Very nice to remember some tips that I miss some times. Very true when passing from color study sketch to a big piece, sometimes is scary : Can I maintan the strenght and liberty in my real painting ?” Thanks Ben for sharing all your knowledge. Your videos have a very comfortable and warm atmosphere for us to feel great of painting with order and efective results.
Love your video so much! this is the way a learnt to work well with proportions and I loved so much; this was in my exchange student year in north en California that I discovered this "old school" way. I also underpaint in acrilycs, because art suplies specially oil in Venezuela are extremely expensive and difficult to find, I was worry if mixed media would devaluate the quality of my artwork, but after looking this video I am more confident, thanks for sharing. Nice video even with the missing part. Cheers from beautiful, hectic and warm Venezuela.
Siempre es un placer ver sus consejos,y este es uno de los cuales me viene muy bien, gracias por su dedicación a darnos buenos consejos, para seguir mejorando.un saludo desde andalucia
After a long time happy to watch you sir. I didn't have academic painting knowledge. you are the first inspiration in building up my skill. Stay safe....♥
I don't think you will go far wrong, if you continue to follow and absorbe this Gentlman's tuition. - I have been motivated to move away from Watercolours, to follow his instruction and try my hand at Oil painting portraiture , Wish I had found this chap much earlier. Sadly, I am at the wrong end of my life cycle, but enjoying this NEW episode in whatever is left of my journey.. Peace.
