- I bought this 1973 Corvette on eBay a week ago. It will only be worth what I paid if the engine is good! Will it Run?

You make me want to wrench on a Vette again. Unfortunately I am very old with too much arthritis. Thanks for taking me back to the day
Sounds pretty solid Ben...Keep our fingers crossed that Bubba hasn't messed with the engine.
Great job I hope you put the 4 speed back in.👍👍
Nicely done! It looks like it will be a good starting point for a great C3. It looks like the overall condition is really good, just have to get Bubba out of it and it will be a fine car. I would go back with a 4 speed and remove the slush box.
Overall condition is poor.
Now I see where Randy got his Bubbafied saying on his channel😂, he always mentions your channel when he says it.
Looking good, Ben. Congratulations, it looks like a good buy!
It`s a runner .
Great !
This is why I love this channel
That engine bay looks pretty darn clean!
Looks like this was a decent base for a starter project. Then Bubba got his hands on it & got overwhelmed !! Don't know if there's room for a profit here. I would say more like break even.
I've had many small block Chevy engines, I've built many of them. You can put 6 qts. of oil in one (with a stock pan) without the crankshaft hitting oil in the pan. I have never used anything but 20w50 oil in any cast iron small block Chevy. The oem clearances work best with 20w50. Especially if the engine has some wear. Starter fluid is ether, and is not good for engines, especially gasoline engines. It is mostly used on diesel engines. It burns really hot. I have seen pistons melted from overuse of starter fluid. I use 40:1 2 stroke premix when pouring fuel directly into a carburetor. I'm hearing a tapping sound from the engine.
When she got her first car My sister added the proper amount of oil every 3000 miles without draining the old oil or changing the filter. It didn’t destroy the motor but it had to go to the mechanic who told her how to properly change the oil, lol. PO probably just overfilled it because the dip stick might be the wrong one…
I knew you could do it brother!!!
When you tried to start it and the fan didn't turn I was like "uh oh". Then I saw the belt was off.
I was a kid when this generation of Corvette came out. They are so nice and mechanical.
She's alive, its always nice when the engine runs.
I have a '72 Corvette that has been sitting up for a year near Houston, TX. It has a ZZ383 with less than 5,000mi, and bad brakes, let's recommission this car.
HI BEN GREAT VIDEO WITH YOU GETTING THS 73 VETTE RUNNING. THIS WAS A GREAT BUY FOR YOU. LOOKING FORWARD TOMORE VIDEOS ON THIS 73 VETTE. TAKE CARE. 👍
Hey guys, enjoyed the video, leading does not look easy, have to give the oldtimers some credit for the amazing work they did, your getting there, nice job...Ralph
nice start, hope the trans is good and the rest of the drive train
Hey Ben, the alternator is quite a bit out of alignment with the water pump and balancer pulleys.
Nice job getting it running.
Last of the cool vettes, rear spoiler, chrome (rear ) bumpers , still has a decent engine, nice score !
Sounded good Ben, nice score man! Ya that wiring was a wreck!
Great Vid!
I love to watch you get a basket case started.
I sent you a pic of my 73 once.
I’ve always wanted to take a fixer that needed paint and turn it into Racer X’s Shooting Star.
The 73 would be a good one because of its long nose.
And, you just gained a new subscriber bc of all the Chevies I see in your paddock!
Whenever I see wire nuts in car wiring I know bubba or my in laws have been there.
Great job, how do you stay so calm? I get stressed totally out now working on cars because I usually break things in the process oh fixing things. I do not know much about working on cars but you have seen my vids, i do finally get everything fived. A good example is the Allante, which I got running after sitting for 11 years. I replaced the fuel pump, replaced every injector, and I run a drives now. I have never been shown how to work on cats and I wish I knew more but it stresses me out. I am about to end my channel. I am now in the process of changing out the power steering pump on the Jag and I am almost giving up. A shop would charge atleast 1,800 to do this job and I can't afford it. Signed Stress Out Car Lover..
The dent probably happened when it was outside the vehicle or on it's way in?
Looking good Ben
My '74 has the same battery wiring. Red ground to the frame and black positive from the engine. I assumed that's how it was supposed to be. lol
Great video 👍
That motor sounds great. Wish I could come get it !
Come get it? Is he giving it away or selling it already?
Now that the engine is running. It looks like you made a good deal. On to the transmission, interior and wiring.
Take a shot every time he says bubba😂
Great job as ALWAYS do you have door hinges for the driver side the door has dropped bad let me know
Cool! I noticed from the bolt pattern on the intake those are TBI heads, which are terrible in terms of flow and performance. But it runs good! 👍🏻
Yeah I stopped the video to see if they were maybe 083 tuned port iron heads or TBI stuff... yup... 193 swirl ports. Good door stops hahaha
You rock dude!
maybe it's just the camera angle, but looks like the alternator was a little behind the fan pulley.
I would love to get my paws on a ‘68-‘73 chrome bumper vette….and stuff a LS in there, even a cheap iron truck block!! Nice score Ben!!!
'68 -'72
Engine seems to run pretty good. Hope you put a 4 speed back in it.
That wire. Harness been bubbbed real bad
You need a “Bubba Scale” to rate cars on. Like 1 to 10 Pabst Blue Ribbon’s
Nice
👍
I know it’s off topic, but I really enjoyed the piece of music that opened and closed your video. What is it called?
There is a cheap tool to turn that motor easier!! I picked one up with Mike at the last show.
Well I don’t know what you paid for the car however without physically looking at the car I think you got extremely lucky it even runs and all the other issues will be a bonus so I would never buy a car from a picture and complain if it does not meet my standards just my opinion
It's a runner!
Looks like water pump pulley is possibly not sitting flat against the flange...I see some wobble there Ben, might want to take a look? or maybe it's just a trick of the camera/lighting?
I would be interested in know what you do with the delaminated door panel. I have a 1975 convertible with the same problem.
Engine sounds ok, that's always step one. Should be a driver.
Is it just the camera angle, or is the alternator pulley farther back from the other pulleys? (+1 on putting in the correct 4 speed)
6 quart pan corvettes had this year's ago
Can you explain the strap marks on the fender and why your not mad?
nice job 2x👍
I have a 1975 vette . I love the ones with the chrome bumpers. Hang in there and get that beauty back on the road..
It runs you win!
Does anyone have ideas about security start issues with C4 cars?
Bubba Ghost is hanging around
Put in a magnetic oil plug
What a P.O.S why even bother? I would have parted it out, good money parts car.Great job on the video
Very hard to break even if parted out with a purchase price of $6,500 plus shipping.
Great job Ben 🎉
You never told us what the disclaimer was on eBay, was it supposed to be a running engine?
Seller claimed the engine was good, yet there wasn’t a starter on it when it arrived so he never could have known that. He also whined about the money he had in it, which turned out to be a lie. So all bets were off
What wheels are those?
Could you p tell me the fuel filter model number please?
Why don’t you set the choke to start the engine? Cold engines need the choke to start and keep running.
Choke is wired to the open position
Another great deal ! She’s a runner! Woo Hoo !
If that's the original pan it would hold more oil..
Always a mag plug
How much do you want for that Corvette
That car looks like a nightmare for me I hate wiring especially in the interior
Sounds like a good runner to me.
6 qts extra means he was out racing to redline.
Engine looks like it’s got newer heads on it.
TBI truck heads... it's a 638 casting block too as you can see it under the car briefly.... meaning it's just a TBI 350 out of a pickup
Makes me want to get another corvette and stop screwing around with mini coopers.
After having done over 400 Ebay transactions (admittedly for unrelated products), and having seen you struggle with misrepresentations of what was included in the car, I would hope that you slam the seller with your transaction to have been fraudulently represented. Time to take something out of the seller's hide. Feedback satisfaction for me is paramount.
Bens not an ass. You get what you bought on ebay.
If you're still interested in selling your rims please let me know and what size
... I've never seen so much gasoline squirted into a carb dude ... I couldn't help but think: "has anyone ever hydrauliced an engine with liquid gasoline?" Just wondering out loud ...
Anyways, so, in the prior, initial video re: this car, I'm curious if the car transporter offered you a discount, or some future consideration, for the paint chafe damage to the fender tops (closer to the w/s) by the tie-down straps he used ... seems like that could have been easily avoided with some blankets by anyone who's done this before ... or even gave the matter a passing thought ... so, whadderyer call a car transporter what's a tad 'bubba'? ... the immediate term that comes to mind doesn't really work ...
Glad the engine turned out to be OK (so far) ... did it continue to behave as it reached full temp? ... kudos to you that a complete car re-wire doesn't seem to faze you one bit ... K Mc
Relax…..he filled the bowls with it…he was filling the vent tube if you know what your looking at!!!
ahhh ... I get it ... FYI, I don't have Holley experience ... if that had been a QJ, I might've realized what Ben was actually squirting fuel into ...
Please disregard my calling your vortec a BBC. Were just glad no LS!
Sell it to me!
No, your B.B.C. mill is not a puke LS
You paid way to much and you having trouble get your money back
I could part it out for what I paid. I literally do that for a living
No don't change the filter. U wanted to be a cheap ass by not changing the oil.
Keep watching Kevin
I have a c4 from 84 that needs to be rebuilt completely let me know if your interested @TheCorvetteBen.
