    Jacob, thank you so much for sharing these books. I ordered Fresian Whitework. It is available on Amazon in the US. It came today. It is just amazing with full size patterns and very detailed directions. A project from this book is on my list for this winter along with the MFE 2024 stitch along.

      Oh that's so good to hear Cheryl! The book really is wonderful, it's so brilliantly laid out and the graphs and instructions couldn't be clearer :). Hope you will enjoy all of the projects!!! :D

    Thank you so much for recommending my book, Jacob! I am so glad you love it! My new book, "Hardanger Filling Stitches", arrived from the printers in the days before Christmas and is making its way across Australia. It will be available in Europe in February, then the US in March.

      You're very welcome Yvette - it really is the best whitework book out there - so beautifully illustrated and laid out. I'll keep an eye out for the Hardanger Filling Stitches book! :D

    Thank you for sharing your treasured books. I recently purchased the chart "Catharine Adriana Leunissen 1777" from 1884 Stitchery. I believe this sampler is featured on the cover of the "Embroidery Motifs from Dutch Samplers" book. It's such a unique sampler, so interesting. As a side note, I was immediately drawn to your shirt fabric. There is a fabric designer, Petra Prins from the Netherlands. I have purchased her Dutch Heritage Fabrics. So very beautiful.

      Thank you Susan! CAL 1777 is gorgeous and is in the collection of the museum De Lakenhal here in Leiden. She's a beauty - that Flora is quite exceptional. As for the shirt, it's from an Indian designer called Kardo - he does really wonderful pieces and the fabrics are all hand block-printed. It's a really comfortable shirt to wear and I love the colours :D

    Thank you for sharing part of your library.
    The outdated books are worth a look for sure. Recently read one from the 40s that claimed that samplers could tell us little socially/historically without notations in the sampler to historic events. 🤨
    Ah, how research has changed.
    Have a great week!

      Hahaha yes - it's funny isn't it! Some of the stuff is so outdated - which is completely okay as we build on that but it's always a little sad when there's been updates for years, but the outdated book is still being quoted as fact. :D

    Such a useful and informative video. I’ve been sooo close to buying Yvette Stanton’s book and this might be the last push I needed. And the rest of them just make me want to learn Dutch even more!

      Oh Letter voor Letter is amazing Heidi - don't pay too much for it as it's out of print, but you can get good copies from Marktplaats and sometimes De Slegte... :D

      @@heidikuijer3612 Bol is hideously expensive with a lot of books - if you are patient, they will pop up much cheaper on Marktplaats or Boekenbalie or at De Slegte... and I'd rather spend that money on more books 😂

    Samplers are really history "written" with thread and needle.

    Very interesting. Yes you are professional. Too many confuse professional with perfect. Things go wrong. Professionals move on. I'll take professional over perfect everytime. Perfect is quite boring.❤❤❤❤😊

    I did get the Yvette Stanton’s book on Frisian white work with the intention to try to teach myself some, but I am still rather intimidated after the very poor results 🫣

    • @ModernFolkEmbroidery
      @ModernFolkEmbroidery  10 місяців тому

      Oh no - sorry to hear that! Have you worked with linen threads or cotton / silks? I find that the best results are achieved with a good quality linen thread. Silks and cottons are too shiny and they slide too much, cancelling the beautiful effects of the whitework.

    • @teremazon6109
      @teremazon6109 10 місяців тому +1

      Ah, that’s a good tip, thank you. I have not abandoned completely yet, I’m just taking a break. I was inspired when you showed a truly exquisite little pincushion in one of your Flosstube episodes. I must conquer it at some point. It just remains another WIP.

      @@teremazon6109 Oh I'm so annoyed how busy things got this year - to do the whitework justice (as you'll have seen in Yvette's book) you need to have very good charts - and I simply wasn't happy with mine. And then things got busy, so I still haven't released that small one yet. This coming year though! :D

    • @teremazon6109
      @teremazon6109 10 місяців тому +1

      Ah, that’s great news, Jacob. I’ll be queueing to get the chart for that pincushion. I am building quite a collection of smalls by my sewing corner. I love them all!!🤗
