Derived from Portuguese origins the word Faca means 'knife'. Facon means 'big knife'. It's meant to be carried between one's belt and trousers behind the back. The leather flap prevents it from sliding down and being lost. It's built for the gaucho life on the Uruguay, Argentina and southern Brazil pampas. It's not a jungle brush clearing knife. It's for killing & butchering livestock, utility work, cooking prep and self defense. Not chopping & batoning logs or other hatchet/axe functions like too many youtubers expect all knives to do.
honestly the balance is supposed to be forward heavy as it needs the weight up front for mild chopping. the facon should be thought of as a ranch / cowboy knife. it was to be used in cooking, working, and maybe fighting.
I actually bought it for that purpose but the blade length makes it a bit impractical to keep on my belt, it does however make a good food prep knife so it very well may have found a place at home. I tend to be rather hard on knives and this really is a beautiful piece and very well made. Just not a blade I want to abuse.
@@calebhughes2355 I actually had a chance to test it a bit and i will say that it can take a beating. these knives were meant to be used and abused through a lifetime of work. I have several japanese chefs knives worth well over $2000 each that I regularly abuse and maintain and I honestly wouldn't have it any other way, cause to not use them for their intended purpose is like buying a damn Ferrari and parking it in a gallery. cold steel made and priced them as such to be used.
I have placed my order!! I will do a unboxing, I will be using this for a chef knife. I am not a one knife type person so if I go into the woods I have a few, and a hatchet. Cold steel hunter in 3v can do everything else. I plan to make the sheath accommodate a quick clip, for a variety of carry methods.

Lynn has small hands, that's why the handles don't fit big hands worth a dogshit. I would have bought many more, and some of the expensive ones too, if they weren't so slim.
Thats the hundred thousand dollars question? I have been told by Jimislash that its a cable tang and I'm trying substantiate that with a second source, but from what I've been told it a cable tang. I hoping it not and that Jimislash may be mistaking but that may be just wishful thinking and hoping.
Without a full tang is probably a dangerous knife and not a Lynn Thompson design all though he design cable tang fighting blades like the Natchez and Lerado Bowie knives this seems cartoonish with a cable tang as a Cold Steel offering at this price and especially as it not made in Japan or Taiwan but possible Pakistan or India. If it9 full tang is a hit out the park but if is like Jimislash said a cable tang the its a accident in the making.

I would recommend cleaning and oiling the blade with olive oil often then

No, it's got a cable in it similar to the Laredo and Natchez bowie.
