As an argentine man I can confirm you that there are 3 ways to wear a facon On the back on the side and on the front or verija (crotch) either tucked inside your bombacha de campo (kind of pants) or tucked under the belt not I usually depends on the size and style of your facon

Lynn and it seems the people he has work for him and designing appreciate history and larger blades. Do i think im going to have to have a crazy showdown at anygiven monent with my knives? No absolutely not but its also nice to know that theyre there and could perform just about any task id need them to. Thank you cold steel for not fitting into todays standards of "small socially acceptable small knives" and always making quality affordable products
They share the same ancestry. Anywhere Spanish, Italians or Portuguese settled, these type of knives were prevalent.....the Spanish ran new Orleans for a while and tejas was always right next door so it was only fitting that the Bowie brothers carried Spanish-style knives.
I'm from Argentina and I tell you, that's not a facón, the Cold Steel model is a large "cuchillo criollo" (utilitarian knife). The facón is a fighting knife with a narrow blade, like a dagger but single edged.
They are both excellent ideas,i have a couple of suggestions too. Polypropilene Knuckleduster,the D shaped type,being not metal they would be unrestricted in states that ban metal knuckles. Chinese Dagger Axe , they would be the only ones to make a replica. A larger strapped shield,maybe an Heater one.
True story. I usually carry my CS Leatherneck-SF as a daily carry knife at work (it makes a great utility knife, for cutting banding straps, alternative JIC defencive knife). One of the millwrights keeps flipping me crap about carrying a sword instead. Today he said isn't it "sword day friday". Little does he know that next Friday may very well be "Sword Day Friday" with my CS MAA Messer, or Grosse Messer, or maybe even my Hand and a half sword. Hahaha We shall see.
I see I'm not the only one cutting straps and ties of all sorts with knives!👍💯 Great to test overall strength and edge retention/rolling/chipping/deformaties.
@@TheScotchaholic It also tests the strength of the lock mechanism of folders. Although I have only ever had one lock failure cutting banding. It was a Spyderco liner lock. My CS knives alway pass with flying colors, everthing from a Voyager, Rajah 2 and 3, Recon 1, AK47 (gen 1 and 2). Never had an issue with Cold Steel locks.

Frame locks would be the choice for the slightly harder than medium use and one handed convenience. Yes, my Cold Steel knives have endured well. An old Japanese made aus8a recon 1 ultra lock tanto got well used for cutting thick cable jackets, thin gauge electrical wire cutting, cutting various plastic tie straps and cardboard, trimming fiber reinforced rubber pads, small edge used for detailed scraping, shaving some pine and assorted hardwoods, it's smaller secondary spine used as a makeshift flathead screwdriver, and abused being thrown into wood targets and bouncing off concrete ground - sustaining a minor 32nd of an inch tip break, noticeable up and down play, and slight side to side play. The lock still works - not as good as before the great abuse of course, but still useable. Sharpening the aus8a was no problem and held a decent edge for the work entailed. Cold Steel quality! I reworked/grinded the smaller edge to get back a pointy tip, and it's my home handyman folder for lighter tasks. I know that the tri-ad lock is a reliable and a different beast of a lock altogether.👍💯

I passed the Ruko on to my 7 year old son as a first carry knife. It has proven worthy. I want to instill "quality over quantity" to the younger generation after all.

The manufacturing process is pretty much streamlined and advanced - so anything coming out of China for example, will be based on Quality control of a particular company farming out the work over there and the chosen manufacturing company responsible for parts and assembly. If you were talking about 25+ years ago, then pretty much a LOT of the knives/tools made in China were craptastic. Now, it's a whole different ballgame. Their flashlight industries run the gamut of cheapy garbage to quality mid range and high end gear that has stormed the Western competition. Their knives are the same way. If you get a "clunker" from a major brand, it's most likely one thing or a combination of things: a bad individual case, a bad batch, poor design/materials, or failed under a task it wasn't meant for. The best example of crap USA knives are from Klein tools. Even Boker's once German made knives failed depending on the type of blade/lock, it's material (same 440c since FOREVER), rat tail tangs, and end uses. You'll be shocked at the poor Performance of certain made in the USA folders, because of poor design despite expensive materials used.
This knife is perfect, you could be cooking in the kitchen and someone knocks down the door you will be ready for some shit. I just wouldn’t leave it in the kitchen in case a robber digs for something.

Every single one that's below 80 I would suggest is great,all there knives are badass ,,get a SRK, or the spartan, or what are you looking for a fixed blade or a badass folder

Great facon but for one thing. The jipping on the spine interferes with scraping bark off of limbs and striking a ferro rod. Better to make another without the spinal jipping.

I've hold that facon, its as heavy as a machete . But you can use it easily on chopping board. Very versatile.

Don't know the prices in the US, but I think the Marauder Bowie would fit your budget.
