Italian PM Giorgia Meloni is on a five-day visit to China. The trip marks her first visit to the country after assuming office in 2022. Meloni is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and PM Li Qiang. Boosting bilateral ties and ending the Ukraine-Russia war are likely to top the agenda of talks. According to Officials in Italy, Meloni’s visit is aimed at relaunching bilateral ties. According to reports, trade and industrial agreements are to be signed during her visit. Beijing will also host a two-day Italy-China Business Forum with invitations extended to top French companies. The Italy government is in talks with Chinese automakers to attract investment in the country to increase its national car production.

5 days is a very long visit. Don't know how much time Meloni has spent there previously, but she absolutely will be getting her eyes opened by how big China is, and how relatively small Italy is. Hopefully Meloni will come to accept that its better for Italy to be friends with China vs continual antagonists. Brussels and DC prefer the later. Even the war in Ukraine can be solved through diplomacy, eliminating any war efforts that will ultimately weight over our common populations and cripple their hopes for future.
