You would not believe how much of a pain it was to find this video for me. I bought the ob-xa plugin specifically to create the Subdivisions sound. Shocking that Arturia didn't make it a preset out of the box. Thank you thank you thank you! For synthheads this is elementary, but for someone who's primarily a bassist wanting to go full Ged this is just what I needed.
@@AllanLoboVST I'll have to look into it, thanks! I had the studiologic midi taurus clones once upon a time, but hardly used so sold off. Used to go truly full ged but that was before obxa so approximated the oberheim and taurus with other synths.
By the way, after I recorded this video, Arturia launched Mini V4, their brand new Minimoog sound engine, which as a new "Drive" knob that really beefs up the sounds, making it ideal for the "mean" Taurus sounds. I recreated all the Moog and Taurus sounds after this video, and they sound even better. Soon I need to record a video showcasing these new sounds
Subdivisions = The greatest rock song of all time (for a multitude of reasons). I know someone who did his PhD thesis about this song. Next topic of conversation...
I'm not a musician at all but I'm a long time Rush fan. Have to say I really enjoyed this video, especially when you show how changing the setting one way or another does not achieve the goal. Very interesting info!!
I have to say Allan...I'm very impressed! I've seen so many people try to recreate this patch on various keyboards & VST's, and none of them nailed it like yours. I've also seen few patches for the Arturia OB-Xa that really impressed me for famous sounds either vs the OP-X VST. I made a patch for my Korg M1 30 years ago that came really close and better than most of the others I've heard, including from other OB VST's, but your is even closer to the studio record. I managed to reproduce my M1 patch on my Yamaha MODX, and I played the song in a band again last year as I had in the 90s. On the studio record at times there is also some kind over over dub that adds a choir patch in the mix with the OB-X. I'm guessing in the studio that was probably done with the PPG. Any idea? If you take a listen to the music video for the song, the choir is added to the mix at 027.
Thanks for sharing this. I own this from Arturia and can't wait to try your settings. I think it is spot on. One of the best versions of nailing the sound I've heard.
@@Dadrockdrumz have you checked out my Rush sound pack? That sound and many more are available for sale! For that specific sound I used Arturia Jup-8, with the sequencer changing the position of a band pass filter
Great tutorial! While listening to you play some of the chords, it sounds very close to OBX sound on Stevie Nicks "Stand Back" that Prince wrote and gave to her.
Great video... BUT... is it possible for a follow-up video using the OB-Xtreme 2 plugin...? I swear I used to have the OB-X plugin a long time ago, but can find no trace or evidence of it on my computer... and the only version I was able to buy is the one mentioned above... and the mapping and labeling are not a 1:1 match. Either that, can anyone link me to a place to acquire *this* OB-Xa V plugin for Mac/Logic...? Thanks.

Sounds awesome! Great video!
Wow! Awesome, thank you.
Using Moog Taurus layered on the low end will really tie this together. Great work!
Yes.
Very good content as usual Allan. Using your great hints and tips save a lot of time. Thanks a lot.

Treat yourself to a PC-based softsynth and cheap USB keyboard, cuz together they can provide even a non-musician hours of fun invention.
Subdivisions is spot on. Sounds exactly like the Oberheim OB-Xa.
No it doesn’t. I have an obxa, and an obx.
Veeeeeery excited to see if this is the channel I’ve been looking for to finally really learn all my synths. Great video I’ll check out more
