Richard Wright is one of my favorite keyboard players, and I'll have to try to emulate this patch with my Minimogue (Moog) VST synthesizer. Love that Moog sound!
Great tutorial, thanks a lot! For anyone using Studio One they includes two Wright tones in Mai Tai. They are named mad diamond and you like any color. Found them while watching this video. They are almost identical.
@@pat3000721 Seriously why would you think someone says they need a delay pedal if they have built-in effects? Please think before offering useless advice.
This song was originally played on the AKS/VCS3, if I'm not mistaken. I don't think Rick had a minimoog in 1972. Maybe you want to redo the tutorial on the AKS/VCS3 emulator.
I was going to say this. Wright used either the VCS3 on the album and fed it through a long tape loop to create the rising and falling effect. However on tour Wright played the solo on one of the 2 Minimoogs he had as part of his Keyboard Rig

Pretty nice job, Alan; there's only a little detail I'd like you take care of. If you listen carefully to the original recording, you'll notice that each first echo repetition sounds actually LOUDER than the played note (and effect-into-an-effect, if you like).
Hi Allan, I solved the problem I had for the rescue, turning a bit on the web I found someone who had the same, and undoubtedly much more knowledgeable than me in programming Soft Ware, essentially to fix it consists in deleting a db.db3 File, located in C: Program Data / Arturia / Presets after doing this opens Mini V3 and when you go to browse, in addition to the Factory you can also see the folder called (Allan Lobo Floyd Pack), I thank you for the excellent work, and for your kind availability, I'd like to have Rick Wright's Hammond presets, inside your B3 V Allan Lobo Floyd Pack, Do you think this is possible? Yes, but if you set it to 1/4 and open the patch on a DAW set that has a different tempo, it's gonna be a different delay, so you have to reajuste the tempo or the delay time. I prefer using Hz because that way it's always in the right time, doesn't matter the DAW tempo
@@AllanLoboVST I understand. But I was planning to record a cover of the song, so I'll set the bpm in the daw and work from there. Thank you very much for the video!
Hi Allan, in addition to having recreated the patch by watching the video, I also downloaded the File you shared, my patch saved as, and yours successfully imported from the software, both patches are located in the directory C / program Data / Arturia / V collection 8 / Preset / Mini / V - Inside this folder there is the Factory with all the presets and in the folder named User, there are both the one recreated by me and the one you imported ... the problem is that when the SW is open it find only the Factory folder and not the User folder where I could finally call up the ACYL Patch ... so I closed the program and tried to open it directly from the Patch, the Mini V opens but not with the desired preset, I did the same thing by opening it from any Factory preset, unfortunately even so the mini v opens with the last preset it was closed with ... Do you have any idea why this happens? can you see the patches you have created and saved to recall them from the User folder? Basically every time I wanted that Pink Sound I would be forced to watch the tutorial to enter the parameters to recreate it! Thanks for the great job, I hope there is something wrong and you can help me solve the problem. Franco
1) Did you manage to successfully import the patch and play it? If yes, that's all you need, then just move it to the folder you want. 2) Imported patches don't upload to the "User" folder, but they upload directly to the folder in which the patch was saved and exported from [!!!], even if you didn't have that folder before hand. When you import, that folder will be created automatically. That patch is saved to the "Allan Lobo Floyd Pack" folder. Can you see that folder? If yes, you can move it to the user folder by clicking "save as" and choosing "user", or just by typing "user" on the folder name 3) I never open patches by double clicking patch files, there's no need to open the directory and look for files, I recommend that you open the plugin and then browse inside it for patches
Hi Allan, you are right, when I open the plugin, and I go to browse in search of the Patch I only see the patches of the factory, although in the directory there are the Facyory, User, and Tutorials folders, these are a bit like the Chinese boxes, or in the Factory there is another one inside it also called Factory, and by opening this finally you will find the real presets, then in the User folder there is another User folder created by me where inside there is the patch I saved, and there is also the folder that you created and that I imported, named Allan Lobo Floyd Pack .. . however I can give it a try, free the ACYL files from the folders and move them directly to the User folder created by the Plugin in the Save or Import phase, hoping that the plugin will make it visible within the Browse ... otherwise I will be forced to put them directly in the Factory folder, I have to do some tests then I'll let you know, in the meantime, thank you very much Franco
Not a Minimoog. The solo was played on a EMS VCS3. In any case, it is a very simple sound that can be recreated on virtually any monophonic synth, so your recreation is ok. I also made a video explaining the solo part in "Brain Damage": ua-cam.com/video/BKP3pL5jo8s/v-deo.html
The synth on Any Color You Like is actually done using a Synthi AKS, but in the album it's credited as a VCS3
