2 golfers, born 110 yrs ago & 80 days apart, are still having their swings analyzed; if you put them on tour today with a modern golf ball & driver, their swings would still be considered incredible & they would most likely still win majors. Snead, in his 30s&40s, with now 75-year-old technology, would hit 270-yard drives - that easily puts him in Rory distances today. The more we are returning to a natural athletic golf swing, the more we realize that nothing has changed in 100 years except the ball & the driver. They were both born in 1910 - crazy
@@CraigHansonGolf Evolution took 10 million yrs of experimentation to create us upright bipedal big brain apes - nothing in the last 100 yrs is going to change our available mechanics. All we've done is use our brains to create fast aerodynamic golfballs, we invented carbon fiber & high-strength metals, and finally, our study of aerodynamics led us to understand 13 degrees of launch and 2000rpms of spin is pretty optimal. Snead & Rory are just examples of the 1% of the distribution as all of us bipedal apes.
Great video from behind to understand and see how the hips work for a driver. Definitely key in the golf swing. Keep the videos coming. Hope Iron swings from this behind view are coming soon.
Great video showing the pro's swings in different positions in slow motion with the lines and angles. This kind of video 'really' helps avg players 'see' and 'understand' the biomechanics of an almost perfect swing and how we can try to imitate it best we can to hit it as far and straight as we possibly can. We're all different in age, ability, flexibilty, athleticism, ect. We can never swing like the pro's here but this video gives a chance to copy it the best we can. I take my Ipad and stand to the range about every 4 to 5 trips. I warm up, record 5 full swings, review in slow motion, hit a dozen to work on something, then record 5 again from back and side angles and continue on...Thanks.
Thanks very much I really appreciate that. And you are 100% correct. It’s this type of video with the angles and different views that gives us the best chance of improving.
@@CraigHansonGolf Does the front leg not have to straighten to resist the hips so they don't over rotate which would cause a LOSS of speed? I find this especially true with driver.
Spot on again Craig, 👏 thank you. I'm curious,, there has always been discussions about the shoulders at set-up, Model Golf's research states 3-5 degrees open, then you'll hear closed and parallel to the target line, can you shed your some Evidence Based Material on this?
I’m catching up with Dr Robert J Neal in 3-4 weeks. Send me a mail if you have a few questions. I’m doing a couple of days work with him. I’ll let you know from the worlds leading bio mechanic instructor golf@craighanson.de
Hi Craig; I have a different question about speed. How do I get it in the proper place of the swing? Going thru the ball & in front of it rather than anywhere behind it? We all know about the WHOOSH drill by turning the club upside down & getting it out in front of the ball which is easy, obviously because the grip is lighter, but how is it done swinging the club normally?
What is you just don't let the hips open up too soon, that is, hinge down off the top without doing anything to "turn" the hips, just letting the hips turn a little as the left heel gets firmly planted, and then not thinking about turning the hips at all, but, shifting and, indeed, thrusting the right thigh to the ball as you come through the "hitting area. Of course I expect that if you try this you will drop the right elbow in front of the right side of the belly, keep the left shoulder out over the ball as long as reasonably possible -- really the Ben Hogan style of swinging. What I am saying is learn to play with the hands and arms and stop twisting the hips to rotate so much -- no power in that. Power? Comes from being strong. I will also say if you can keep your right shoulder back, get your right elbow down, keep the left shoulder out, and then do that right thigh thrust keeping the head back behind the ball (and over the right thigh), and maintain a good posture, you will hit the ball pretty well -- even if you don't have super power, you will get good power, playing with a mind to use the hands and arms as the main power source, the body only as a sort of foundation and not really a big generator of power at all. So you only drive the ball 270, and you only hit a 7 iron 165, a 3 iron only 205 in the air, you can still play some fantastic golf. Swinging with the hands and arms as the dominant power source is quite amazing. But I will tell you this; if you master the hands and arm dominant swing style, and you work out to get strong for golf, you will start hitting the ball long even with the hands and arms as your main power source. But I know of no other way to swing, so that is all I can endorse. But looking at slow motion of my own swing, it looks like I am swinging with the hips, even though I only shift the hips, and derive my power from levers, mainly the hands and arms. I know this works, because 35 years ago when I took up the game at the age of 22 I was able to go from not being able to breaking 100 to shooting 84 in about 3 months, and breaking par on a 6600+ yard golf course (hilly with trees all over and some water) a few months after that. I did exactly what I am telling you here. About 16 years ago, I was going to college again, to earn a degree I never finished, and playing golf with someone I met at the golf course -- we became regular golf buddies for a time -- I was playing this way (hands and arms dominant) and I would have some great rounds (some so-so rounds too). But I got into working out (nothing too much, but sit ups, push ups, pull ups, and a few other exercises. It must have worked, because I hit a 3 iron 235 in the air and onto a green with a high draw, and shot 4 under for the last nine -- the fellow gave me a dirty look like I was hustling him and the others in our group all along. Not so, I just got really good all at once because of my extra physical strength from working out. A huge difference when your 3 iron goes an extra 25 yards in the air, and all your clubs go an extra 25 yards. So maybe I could hit the ball further if I learned to twist my torso more and turn more -- first, I don't know how to do that, tried for years, and it only created good shots on occasion, and had no consistency, and second, just using my hands and arms as the main power source is a LOT easier on my body. Finally, let me say, if you get that right elbow in front like Hogan recommended, and don't let your hips turn too much too soon, you can really get a nice whip-like "snap" of the clubhead forward. "turning" with the hips always seems to leave my hands and the clubhead back too much and leads to getting "stuck" a lot -- for me. So I cannot endorse any other swing than a "hands and arms dominant" type swing. Again, you need to shift the weight, and if you look at my swing with the hands and arms powering the swing, you would not guess I was not "turning" my hips to get through the ball I would LOVE to see an instructor teaching the wonders of the "hands and arms" dominant swing. You never hear about this, except very rarely. Hale Irwin was someone that was accused of being a "hands and arms" dominant swinger. But I got the feeling many others were secretly "hands and arms" dominant golfers too -- like I say, you cannot easily tell from watching a swing even in slow motion if the swinger is swinging hands and arms dominant. Just throwing this out there for the entertainment value.
I have shown this to 4 golfers and asked them do u see this step over he is talking about? Not one knows what u are talking about.stepping involves picking your foot off the ground.can u maybe use different language so we get what u mean.?

Great lesson on ball striking. My new goal is in flexing my left knee so it sticks out more in the front.
I hit too stiff legged.
One of the key moves Joe..
thanks for posting very nice of you

No why would that be the case?
