Dumb and Silly Guests that Drove Disney Cast Members Nuts - Confessions of a Theme Park Worker

- The vast majority of theme park guests are great. But there are those that just drive you nuts sometimes, doing stupid- or dangerous- things without thinking about it, not knowing where they are or what they are doing, and asking silly, strange and dumb questions to boot. These are a number of the things that would drive me crazy when I worked at Walt Disney World, Busch Gardens, and Silver Dollar City.
A behind the scenes look at what a former worker at Disney World, Silver Dollar City, and Busch Gardens Florida experienced in his time working at the parks. From driving large safari trucks around live wild animals while cracking one silly joke after another, to spending 5 years as a #PhotoPass photographer at #WaltDisneyWorld and seeing and experiencing all sorts of things, to being a conductor and #trainrobber on the famous Frisco Silver Dollar Line at #SilverDollarCity. With 10 years of working in the parks, there's lots of stories to tell. Here is some of them...
Not only did I work in theme parks for 10 years, I've visited a whole lot of them as well. Here's some stories of great visits, not so great visits, favorites, reviews, and much more.

EDIT to Add: On the first aid segment- look behind me! ;-)
RE my shirt! I've had several people ask about it. it was a gift sent to me from one of my viewers that I opened on one of my livestreams (see, you should watch those for things like this! lol) he ordered it online. I found a couple of sites selling them with a Google search. :-)
@Coaster Thomason It will likely come up in the live stream, but I'm not planning on doing a whole news and views on it. Gwazi has been known for a while, though they finally put a couple ofnumbers on it. Ice Breaker they still haven't given a lot of information on- multi launch coaster, and they show an illustration, but still some missing info. I should know more by next Saturday
SirWillow i love your videos whenever I’m sad it makes my day better and it makes me laugh 😆
comment commenter leave that man alone ok if you don’t like the way he talks then get off his channel and don’t watch his videos he don’t need hate comments from you on his channel
"When will it stop raining?"
Well, son, it's July in Central Florida...so it will stop raining sometime around the last week of August. Or even better:
"You guys need to do something about/turn off this rain."
What?
It can't just be me, you sound like Wallace Shawn (Rex from Toy Story).
You could tell Sir Willow had EXTRA FUN with this one!!!
Whoever says “there is no such thing as a stupid question” as obviously never worked a job where they deal with other humans
My 10th grade English teacher told someone’” you know how they say there’s no such thing as a stupid question?, well there is and you just asked it.
totally true
I'm a cast member at Disney and when I get a question like this, it makes me wonder how did you get here!
Connor Hill hey do you know a gyzel?
The bunny boat ride 😂 that one is absolutely hilarious still.
I don't like repeating cliches, but common sense is uncommon! The depth of your kindness is uncommon, too. You were so kind to Alexis in DKP, thank you.
That was my pleasure. :-)
So I currently work at Kings Island here in Ohio, and one day after my shift was over I was out shopping without time to change out of my uniform. Somebody came up and asked if I worked there! My uniform is blue and yellow with a big "Planet Snoopy" emblem on the back. I was in a hardware store! No! Of course I don't work here! The stupidity of some people pfft
“Don’t make me be the MEANIE!”
This video made me laugh so hard!!!
As a cast member I can appreciate these videos because they speak so much truth!
I think the T-Shirt may have made my day. Thanks for the pick-me-up.
Are you sure there's no Harry Potter at Disney? They both are magical. Tee hee! My job is customer service for several related web sites. You can phonetically spell out the site and some people will still misspell the site. We wonder if people leave their brain on the mouse pad. We sometimes wonder why we don't drink heavily or do illegal drugs. Thank you for the silly smiles you have given me today. God bless you and the family! Thank you for sharing a part of your day with us!
Lol I literally laughed out loud "hello do you want to die!?"
You literally cannot make this stuff up. My favorite was getting told by multiple guests that there was a child climbing the front of the Emporium. Parents were happily doing whatever they were doing and the kid was UP IN THE EAVES OF THE POLES BY THE DOOR. JEEZ.
My mother was a Disney World cast member back in the early 80s, and had some interesting stories about dumb guests mainly around Space Mountain including some unbuckling theirs seat belts and standing up while the ride was in motion (this was when seat belts were the only restraints) and a pregnant lady that snuck on the ride. She was also a test rider on Big Thunder when it first opened and did some cross training on Small World for a day. Don't remember which other rides and stations she worked on but I'm sure she has many other stories from that time in her life.
Wow, didn't realize how frustrating the park guests can be. My heart goes out to anyone who works at a theme park. I never thought of those things before. But I have seen at Disneyland CA... One little boy was ripping the flowers out of a beautiful flower bed. And the mom was just standing there watching him!! Parents I think sometimes believe Disneyland is a place to let their kids run amok.
Thank you!!! 😊
My husband and I did tease the SS boat captain by asking if this was the boat to Harry Potter. He looked up and saw we were joking - it made for a great laugh and then we heard HIS stories of the questions asked. Hysterical! Love the shirt, btw !
“Ok. Here, I’ll tell you what, give me your money I’ll show you how to download the app on your phone and book it that way.” 🤣 Best answer ever! I laughed so hard at that.
An example of the 'wheres harry potter' question is you're at a Legoland park and asking where a ride that is at a different Legoland is
Or another one, "Am I going to get sick on this ride?"
Having worked retail for a good chunk of my life, I can vouche for the fact this translates to store guests as well- why do ppl leave their brains at the door when they grab their shopping cart? People just assume they can do whatever they want, just because they think they can or they feel entitled or 'they paid'... whatever. Sometimes it just sucks the soul right out of you... :)
I think our society seems to think ‘brains’ are common and the absence is typical.
In reality I think humans aren’t really often very intelligent.
LOL! I was on Splash Mountain (WDW) like a decade ago or so with my nephew and his dad, and right before the drop his dad got out of the ride vehicle, and we went over. He was ok, but he got a talking to!
I know I've done the "Where's First Aid?" type question before - when completely exhausted and overloaded and WOW do I feel dumb when it's politely pointed out to me that it's.... right there. At least I end up going "Duh! Thank you! sorry! thank you! sorry! sorry!"
Okay, from now on, I'm going to refer to Splash Mountain as "the Bunny Boat Ride"! (LOL!) ;) ATW
I've had a rough day, but this made it so much better. Thank you!
This one happened just on Labor Day weekend. I'm passing by the front gate to get back from break and a lady is standing by the fountain there and stops me to ask where the exit to the park was. I pointed out that it was right behind her and she says that it couldn't be the exit because the fountain by it looked way too different. Turns out that it looked different because she was now looking at it from behind. I just wanted to go back on break after that.
9:54 They might have been trying to say, Phantasmagoria.
See, and people think I make stuff like this up! It's all true, as any cast member who has spent any time in the parks can tell you. :-)
I have that problem at Six Flags......... We pay for the Flash Pass as a part of our memberships and I can never remember what it is called and keep calling it FAST Pass like at Disney. :')
My mom and neighbors call fast pass speed pass
Thank you for posting videos
Okay. I admit I'm guilty of the bathroom one. However, Disney does an incredible job of making small bathroom signs that blend in really really well. So well in fact that I've spent a several minutes looking for bathrooms that I knew were there either from having used them or because of the map. And I can understand the exit question. For some unknown reason I tend to have a really hard time finding my way out of Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. Sometimes I think Disney focuses too much on theming and not enough on making navigating easy for guests. I now get lost at Disney Springs and any time I manage to track down a cast member and ask how to get to say the bus stop I get a Disney point and the oh so helpful "it's that way." Really!?! Well, so are 37 stores, 9 restaurants and 5 "aisles" to turn on. So that point and "it's that way" isn't overly helpful.
As someone with aspergers who can't handle too much stress as it is, if i worked in a theme park and had to deal with this kind of stupidity on a frequent basis i would just blow up! I'm getting triggered just listening to these stories god forbid i actually deal with it! Lol
As someone with Aspergers who WANTS to work at a theme park, I sure hope that dumb people are a significant minority of guests I will encounter.
@@bluegold1026 hope it works out for you dude. I'll just stick to being a theme park guest. Just not these kinds of guests. Lol
They are a very small number of the guests but a memorable little percentage. LoL
@@bluegold1026 In any profession especially disney, as long as humans are on this planet there will be people like that.
How do I get a Fast Track? That's that center lane on the 91 freeway. Where do I get a Speed Pass? I think that's at a Mobil station. Fun times
I suppose it's possible that "PassPass" could be a little kid attempting to say Fastpass, and maybe the parents kept saying it for fun, and then it slipped out like that when asking the Cast Members.
This made my day better, thanks!
My favorite one the one when you talk about misnaming of fantasmic and the splash mountain mishaps, i would rather get wet then almost put myself in danger and i make sure to bring an extra t-shirt just in case i ride splash mountain on my next trip
One of your comment made me think of something that happened on a recent trip. We were in enchanted tails with Belle and a father with kneeling down with their toddler child and a cast member asked him to stand up. It pissed that parent off and said he didn’t see the difference. He did stand but my question is what is the difference between him kneeling and standing up?
Since I haven't done the show and I wasn't there at that moment I don't know what the circumstances were or what was going on so it's very hard for me to say
Yes, people don't understand the nomenclature, but it's not limited to the guests! One year the Jaws skippers made a video where they took USF maps to MK and asked the greeters where's Jaws. And you would be surprised how many would look at the map and try to make sense of it! We had a joke that if another guest asked how to get to we would be like "Well, first, walk down this street and go outside the park, go through Citywalk and get to your car, drive down I-4..." LOL
Not only do the garbage cans rock around but they are nasty too because they are well garbage cans. LOL now the kid going to the bathroom off of the running boards was funny sad but funny. Great video as always Sir Willow.
splish splash 😂 oh god i choked so hard on my drink
I have 2 questions
1. When is the 3:00 parade?
2. Where is Harry Potter World?
I can MAYBE understand all the "dumb" questions for WDW but Disneyland and other small, one-off (or two-off in the case of Universal) parks? Yeah.... no excuse. That's why I think Travel agents get so much popularity nowadays because people are too lazy to look into the research themselves or are too overwhelmed with all the things to do. So they just leave it up to the travel agent to book the room and tickets just saying "yeah yeah that sounds good" and then end up lost while they're there. But I agree- if you're paying thousands of dollars for your family to be there, it doesn't help to be clueless. A lot of people like to just "wing it" but in my opinion, there really is no such thing as just winging it- you gotta do a little bit of legwork before you can wing it. It would be like taking someone who has NEVER been before and plopping them in the middle and saying "okay what do you want to do first?" and then not giving them any guidance. There's too much to know about and see and do.
As far as the names for things, that bothers me too- at least know the REAL name of it before you go making up nicknames..... I mean who's really going to remember half the names that are multiple words long? For example, "Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run".... no one is gonna call it that. But at least come up with a sensible nickname like Smuggler's Run or Millennium Falcon ride or something.... not star wars ride or spaceship ride or something even worse than that....
Yeah I’d rather book everything myself than go through a travel agent.
Thanks for another great video!
You know what they say, "there are no stupid questions, only stupid people!"
Great video! I loved the cut scenes to your MK footage. My mom used to talk about "Pioneer Town" or "Pioneer Land" and the "Orange Blossom Cafe", along with many other alternative names at WDW and just about anyplace / anything really.
Your shirt made my day!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I love it!!!
Guests would ask me where Magic Mountain was….”you mean Space Mountain?”
Oh the stories of dumb customers I could tell! One of the ones I liked that I got working on a big thrill ride, "Will I lose all the stuff in my pockets?" As you listen and hear all kinds of objects falling, banging, clanking off of metal diamond deck. I finally got to the point where I wouldn't even answer their question! I would just marshal them onto the ride that much faster! Or my other remark would be, " The sounds you are hearing of things hitting this deck are not sound effects pipped over the speakers for your listening pleasure!"
My sister is a annual pass holder for the San Diego Zoo. She loves to jokingly suggest, "I should ask one of the workers where the Matterhorn is or when the Shamu show is." I keep telling her, "I'm sure they'd had crazier questions than those."
Great video. I got the notification this time and it looks like your views are back up. Good job, Sir Willow.
My brother had a young teacher who didn't believe in stupid questions. He took this as a challenge and probably succeeded in breaking her opinion. He did make it appear like he truly didn't know what he
was doing.
Love this series
You speak the minds of many cast members Sir Willow! Btw I LOVE the shirt! XD
I'm not defending them in what I'm about to say. I'm making a joke. Apparently they heard the story about how Harry Potter was going to go to Disney but either didn't listen to the rest of the story or ignored it where Universal ended up with it.
What time is the 3:00 parade? 😂😂
Having worked 35 years in student services at a large university, I've heard plenty. Parents have to fill out the FAFSA (pronounced FAFF-sah) to get grants and loans and I can't tell you how many times I got "I have a question about the Fapsa?" And then you get notified of what you'll receive via a "financial aid award letter" which of course became the "financial aid reward letter." So yeah.
I love it when I go to the Universal parks and hear people ask where the Fast Pass entrances are and where they can get them. I’ve heard a few Team Members say they don’t have Fast Passes here. They then tell them where they can get Express Passes for Universal.
I did the Disney College program this past winter. I absolutely loved it and learned a lot
Great video. 🙂👍❤
A note on ”Are you working here?” It can be a more specific question as well - Like are you working on this atraction or do you handle this counter? Johan.
People - guests - expect the parks to be perfectly safe regardless of the OBVIOUS SAFETY BARRICADES and rules whist being less than safe themselves is, by far the worst experiences in person, and the FUNNIEST stories I hear from park workers.
When my family went to Disney World back in 2009, my grandfather paid for the trip and made us a schedule. He put down Sea World for the last day, thinking that we would be able to get a bus from the park to there.
But what if they did ask where Splish Splash was on a Saturday night? LMAO XD
i know the feeling of keeping your kid safe. i was at a fair that we do every year and they only have a few rides for the little little kids and one of them you have to be so tall to get on but my cousin's little girl wanted on so bad cause her best friend who is older wanted on it and he was taller and could but the guy that was doing the ride didn't even care to check and see if she was tall enough to ride or not he just let her on. so what do you do if the person running the ride doesn't care to make sure if the ride is safe for the kid or not? i couldn't say nothing cause it was not my kid and we didn't see the if your this tall to ride thing until she was on the ride.
I've asked where restrooms were at the Moda Center because I'd never been in the 200 level just to find out it was a couple hundred feet away
There’s a line???? I’m special. Screw everybody else, let me cut. OMG some
People are so rude !
I love those people who are my child rode this last week. Or other stuff like that
What time is the 3 o’clock parade?
SeaWorld used to sell white T-shirt’s with the SeaWorld annual pass-holder logo on the front and a large Shamu Crew logo on the back to their gold and platinum two year pass holders . You’d be surprised how many times people thought I work there when ever I go to SeaWorld wearing that shirt.
Love your t-shirt!
Oh my gosh sir willow haha 😆 this is funny
“Don’t make me be the M e a n I e ! “
Hey George your not alone. We have these type of people at my train museum, like for example a common mistake people ask “is this engine a oil burner?” While they can clearly see people shovel coal into the engine.
I used to work at a historic park and heard one of the gardeners tell a funny story. He went into one of the men's washrooms and found two elderly ladies exclaiming over the vintage 'foot-bath'.
A couple of years ago I was in Magic Kingdom standing waiting for my grandbaby to get done with a visit with Pluto. I am wearing a St Louis Cardinals Hawaiian shirt with a Glock Camo hat. Guy looks at me and says where are the bathrooms. I look at him and say " I don't have a clue" he got pretty peeved at me and I then said "Dude I don't work here" "Oh I guess Disney would never have somebody working with a Glock hat on" "You got it" he stopped off. And remarked to my party that I would have thought the Cardinal Hawaiian shirt would have been a clue as well. But the next day I went to EPCOT and there were cast members wearing a Hawaiian type shirt in the same colors. Ya some people have brains but do not engage them
Where did you get your shirt?
It was a gift from one of my viewers, Barry Hom. He loves to send me great things like that, which I open up on my live streams. I don't remember where he said he gets them.
Spider Magic? Pretty sure that's the new show with Spider Man and Doctor Strange! ;)
I was guilty of asking where the exit is for hollywood studios lol
Omg I have worked in retail for years now The major question I got asked was do you work here..I had a name badge a smock in Maine stores or a uniform. I after would give them a look like what do you think...
Where is your shirt from? I need!
One of my viewers, Barry Hom, sent it to me to open on one of my live streams. Teepublic has it and many others for sale
:D Lol Sillies. Now I myself might ask for help finding the bathrooms when I get turned around or something but I would try to locate them on the maps myself first ;)
There's only 1 question in this video that I'd have to argue is valid - First Aid. First Aid and the Baby Centers are purposely tucked away and are not really in plain sight. Yes they are on the map, but in the event they are needed and the guest didn't plan on needing them I think it is a very valid question and an important one to take seriously because you simply don't know why they may need First Aid.
did you notice however that it was right behind me, with the big sign making it obvious that it was right there? That was the joke. :-)
@@SirWillow well that definitely makes more sense...😂😂😂
I happened to be walking by some cast members, and I clearly overheard them say to one another that someone asked them "What time is the 2:00 parade?" LOL!
2:00 or 3:00? At WDW it's the 3:00 parade, though I think Disneyland it might be 2:00. :-)
I haven't been to WDW in a long time (West Coaster) but I remember quite clearly hearing the Harry Potter music playing in areas of Disney's MGM/Hollywood Studios. This was well after Hogsmede had opened, so I can kinda get that Harry Potter confusion.
If you're already nuts it'll just drive you.
What is that "dumb guest, dumb guest" clip from?
my mouth. lol it's not a conscious effort to copy or refer to anything
i can vouch for this people forget what a seatbelt is when they get on the ride like i was a ride operatore we are public enemy number one when some one tried to get past the safety rules
I would MUCH rather go to SeaWorld than Disney. At least there I have fun and LEARN.
One of my EMS colleagues used to work at Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ. he had told me a story recently about someone who tried to STAND UP ON EL TORO a few years back. WHACK! needless to say, the people about 5 cars back got a bit freaked out by the result of that. Also, Fast track is where they send you in the ER when youre gonna be discharged the same night cause what you have isn't that serious
7:20 had this all the time. Even as a security guard for Universal Studios in Hollywood.
I feel like you should do a video verbally showcasing some of the more...entertaining, (and I mean that genuinely), guests that occur. Like say those who REALLY get into the streetmosphere performances for example, or play along with the theme to a restaurant, (like Prime-Time Cafe in Hollywood Studios).
On a school trip to Holiday world somebody from our group decided to jump out of a raft on one of the water slides. Also on a trip to Carowinds people said things like " let's go Ride THE fury.
I won't even lie....I've always gotten Disney world and Disney land mixed up🤣🤣
you aren't alone. lol
i have people at the college i work at ask me dumb questions too. even workers do it too. now i love they ask questions even if it is a stupid question to ask cause it shows that they care about there job. i do the dishes at a college dorm. i feel that some people that don't ask and then i see them do something dumb i'm thinking i reather them ask where something goes then to just guess and put it in the wrong place. like when i see a long pain on top or next to a pain that is short or doesn't fit and they try to make it fix and give up and leave it half off the pan or he is a really good one they put pans where we have never ever put pand before its like are you blind do you not look around when you do your job to see where pans go and not go. i don't care if the new worker thinks that i think there stupid and have to tell them and show them the sizes to the pans. its crazy i should make a video no this someday lol .
Also i like that joke which you say if you give us your money we will give you some fastpasses and i knew it was a joke plus i watch videos of former cast members talk about rules for gifts to the characters from i remember her name was jennifer oakes
I accidentally say fastlane sometimes because near me is Kings Island and they call it that and that does cost money
Hey, SirWillow, do you have any interesting Food and Wine Festival stories? Curious since, well...Food and Wine's going on now.
Not many specifically for it other than dealing with some drunks. And some of those stories arent family friendly. :-)
every field gets stupid questions. my favorite one recently- I was asked at least 4 times "who is this?" he called me!! it started with someone dialing the wrong number on our end, and he just called the number that called him, took be about 5 minute longer than it should have to figure that out.
Interesting tee shirt, kinda funny. Some may not get it, on topic for your epi.
There are no bad kids, only bad parents.
Having been a teacher for several years that isnt quite true. :-)
SirWillow So I guess it’s not the same as “There are no bad dogs. Only bad dog owners.”
Lol I'm guilty of asking how do I get out but when you get directions I wouldn't argue it was the first few times i was allowed to go off in the parks by myself i was around 15
All of these can be so irritating. Also--great shirt!
