Have had two dachshunds, currently on my second. He’s a rescue dog I adopted from the local shelter. I love this breed, as long as you understand them and know how to deal with their stubbornness, they make great family pets.
My baby is half doxie, half terrier. A rescue at 1, she's 3 now. Smartest dog I ever had. A real people pleaser. She thinks people are here to please her. She's wonderful and a cuddlebug. When she wants to be. She let's me know I ain't her master. She does what I want her to do when she wants to. I love her spunk!
Starting with my great grandma, my family has loved and raised over 80 dachshunds. My oldest daughter is about to open a "Ranch" for Doxin services, boarding, training, (education of ownership) and other services. Thank you for your Video!
Our Weens never became a hunting dog because he's crippled. We send him on hide and seek missions because we LOVE his enthusiasm for all the smells! We were amazed about a year ago when he suddenly began taking pigeons out of the air! I don't know how he does it with those messed up little legs! He's also very efficient when he kills, no time is wasted in playing with his prey. His high prey drive is only an issue with the rabbits we raise, and briefly when we had newly hatched chicks (we've protected them all well enough, he's never caused casualties). He respects the chickens, but still wants those rabbits! Despite his desire to get the rabbits, I will repeatedly claim that he has never done anything wrong! He's very sweet and lovey, and has caused us to fall madly in love with this little breed of weirdos!
I have a smooth standard Dachshund and love her to pieces. Her Siamese cat older brothers also love her! In 2006 I tried one but returned her to the breeder as we could not overcome her separation anxiety. She was older and had bonded with her littermate, so thendog’s owners ended up with both girls! Win win! But I kept the bug for a Dachshund, and after a two plus year wait during Covid, I was moved up on the breeder’s wait list as most people were requesting boys! Seems the market is for miniature long hairs, so need to be diligent when seeking a Standard Smooth! Cheers!
I love my weenie dog he’s so sweet always wanting to please very sweet a great support for my son he’s adhd and asd and my son hugs him so much and my son isn’t about hugging and he lets my son hug him and loves it I know he loves my boys especially my son with adhd and asd i know he knows or feels it that he makes him happy seeing them run back and forth in the backyard makes my heart explode 😊🥰💙
🇨🇦. My little 🤍dachshund 🤍has been with me for ten years. We are two old ladies together now..She is the most loyal and loving friend I have ever had. When we had a rat infestation at a prior address mi witnessed her killing a rat that out weighed her.Rats are a horrible subject but I have to say she never stopped hunting until we got out of there. Now if we are out visiting she will always alert people if there has been ANY kind of outside creature in their home! 🥰
Dachshunds are still very popular as hunting dogs in Sweden, and other parts of Europe as well. If they are fit, they have amazing stamina and can run for many hours. Unfortunately, some breeders seem to exaggerate the long back and short legs in their breeding. This may lead to dogs with unnecessary health issues. A lot of of people have misconceptions about what kind of dog this is, and the nicknames like "weiner dog" does nothing to help with that unfortunately.
Ours never got to become a hunting dog because of a breeder like that. His legs are misshapen, and one shoulder is so bad that he's been crippled since he was 2 years old. He somehow manages to snatch pigeons out of the sky though! I'm pretty proud of him for that.
🇨🇦. You are so correct! Horrible to breed a pet to exaggerate what IS ALREADY exaggerated! They get back injuries really easily . Because they are absolutely fearless they will jump down from a high place .If you let them do this over and over without giving them a stepping platform they are guaranteed back injuries and or issues that hurt . I just die inside when I see a fat dachshund because it is OBVIOUS that they are being tortured .ILove My Lulu more than words can say 🤍🥰
I’m very happy to see you today !! But my puppy is very cute and smart!!but he barking too much?? What kind I do??? I like him so much but just the one bad thing is he doesn’t listen?? I hope you can talk about this problem!!! Thanks you.
"Small?" "Little?" "Tiny?" Yeah, I grew up with minis all around me;doxies were my mom and grandma's fave breed (Grandma was Dutch and still never held the dogs responsible for her and her family having to leave everything behind when the Nazis invaded...shame on you, 1919 etc) They were/are still the image that comes to mind when I encounter the word, "dog" BUT then I met my high school boyfriend and his dachshund...a standard-sized dachshund...imagine my surprise to meet a doxie who was basically, a German Shepherd on shorter legs. Eric, the dog, had a massive chest, and a scary jawline. Seeing him, now I knew how dachshunds hunted badgers! I mean mine could, would, did kill guinea pigs on sight (sorry, neighbors who didn't tell us the rodents were loosed when they invited my mom and her dogs over!), but I think even they would have struggled some with a badger. But a standard-sized dachshund, full of doxie moxie, would be a formidable foe for anyone/thing. You only show images of minis in this video....standards deserve thei time to shine too! They still make great pets, altho they will definitely be more difficult to get pills into! LOL!
I want a standard size just because of how uncommon they are! We have a mini, and that's what people expect to see when a kid yells "Look at the weener!" But our boy in a body that's appropriately sized for his personality? I think it would be hilarious!
I use a lot of squeaker toys so they can get their hunting fix. I probably buy 15 toys per month the flat ones with squeaker you can get them at dollar tree or Amazon. They work absolutely amazing.
I had dachshunds on the farm growing up. They all had strong prey responses and were always hunting. Unfortunately they’d pick fights with much larger animals which eventually got two of the three killed.
My Doxen is a mix of Standard, mini, Jack Russell terrier, and a small dose of chihuahua, and 100% good boy, Oscar more or less looks like a doxen with longer legs a shorter back and shorter ears
Got my male when he was 5 1/12 weeks old...had a hard time getting him housebroken so he can run the house...any suggestions... he'll be 4 years old in May...he is somewhat papertrained...
I didn’t know much about these dogs til recently when we adopted a chihuahua mixed with dachshund. She looks more dachshund. Well we bring her home and I have free roam chickens. Well, I’m few chickens less now.
Nobody calls those dogs "Dachshund" in Germany. They are called "Dackel" (ore maybe "Teckel"). Anyway, these dogs are known to be very intelligent and also good natured.
Dachshunds are the most under rated Hunting Dog around. It can go to Earth, Scent Track and the most messed up scent track I've heard of is a track 4 days old, rained on for 4 days, the track turned out to be around 5 miles long in thick brush and yes the Dachshund found the bear! They can be used for Water work, the long hairs were made for it! Why is Dachshunds the best hunting dog? They will track a deer for you, and unlike a 125 pound hunting dog that demands a few pounds of prime meat the Dachshund is ecstatic if you give them a deer kidney, the sweet meats, a lung... you ain't eating that, but that wee dog will get a fat belly from it. Also, they make great 'furry hot water bottle' that has a built in alarm and will wake you up. American Dachshunds are easy to determine, unlike other nations Dachshunds the American Dachshund only has the outer coat and not the fluffy inner coat a Dachshund from other nations have.
I'm not into small breeds but I have a soft spot for these little guy's.
I have two brothers that weigh in at 30 and 40 pounds. They don't fit in the 'little guy' category.
i grew up with dachshunds, just consistently happy little things

My Dixie chews up about anything we buy I think she might take her to anxiety out.

We have always had Dachshunds
Play a game called Wild Weiners. It’s amazing and about Dachshunds
I have had a rescue older female and a younger female both were so easy to housebreak..is it a male thing
My Doxen is a mix of Standard, mini, Jack Russell terrier, and a small dose of chihuahua, and 100% good boy, Oscar more or less looks like a doxen with longer legs a shorter back and shorter ears
Every dachshund is different but most have the fearlessness.....my one dachshund would get possessed and go into groundhog holes for 4 hrs
Got my male when he was 5 1/12 weeks old...had a hard time getting him housebroken so he can run the house...any suggestions... he'll be 4 years old in May...he is somewhat papertrained...
How Interesting Informative
I'm on my 3rd doxy. All 3 have been little love bugs and very quiet. They use their indoor voice if they have something to say about the doorbell.
I didn’t know much about these dogs til recently when we adopted a chihuahua mixed with dachshund. She looks more dachshund. Well we bring her home and I have free roam chickens. Well, I’m few chickens less now.
Is it good to breed 2 blue eyed sausages
I said goodbye to my dachshund Gingersnap Vienna in November. She was 18.5 years old. 😢❤❤
Droll affectionate loyal companionable... intelligent.. stubborn... cute a real clown.

I have one. She is made of cotton, string and cloth
Bro looks like he’s from Tennessee but sounds like he’s from Wales.
We are on dachsie numbers 4 5 and 6. They are like potato chips (wait with your accent that would be crisps);. You can’t have just one.
Both my boys are massive diggers. It to me forever to block up
Their escape holes
Hate how it's pronounced as Datsun. It's not a car.
