I ❤️ my Doxies! I received my first one when I was 5 years old and have had them for 45 years now. I am the alpha female and this works to keep my crew in shape.
We have a short haired that is getting close to a year old, and she is a natural hunter. She gets along with our neighbor's blue tick hound mix very well. The blue tick hound is named Daisy, and the Dachshund is named Vienna. They love to wrestle. We keep an eye on them to make sure no one gets hurt, but they seem to be wrestly like a mother is with its young and stuff. So I think its healthy. We had a miniature before, and she was very active and lived to be 15. Her name was Princess and even got to be in a WTOK TV commercial a few years back.
I'm getting a mini Doxie this week, and even though I've owned dogs before I'm still nervous. My last dog was a beagle and he was just perfect from the minute I picked him up, at least that's how I remember it 14 years ago, although I still have some shoes that prove that he was't. I've just dreamed of owning a dachshund for so long I just don't want to screw it up.
Love your channel. Thank you for the insight. Btw I have 3 doxies myself. They are the best breed, I dont think I wouldnt get any other breed outside dachshund😂 However One out of 4. He hardly bark, he is more a hunter. Can you tell me how to train him to bark/ speak?
I wish my friends and family would simply stop trying to approach my doxie. He simply doesn’t appreciate uninvited attention at all, but in their opinion apparently “asserting” themselves on my dog is good training. Sorry, folks. I adopted a five year old dachshund who was severely neglected and not socialized. He immediately loved me, but no one else. It takes him forever to allow anyone near him. He will growl and snap if approached uninvited, and to make it worse, he then pees! Ugh. This is MY dog. He is absolutely crazy about me. He is like a ball and chain in terms of not really being able to travel. He jumps all over me if anyone comes into my house. He’s like a whiny toddler in that regard. The poor dog is simply a ball of anxiety. At home alone in our safe, familiar environment he is absolutely fine. He doesn’t mind other dogs or cats - it’s just people he doesn’t know. This is tough, but he’s mine. People just need to be respectful of his space. He has a lot of fear and trying to suddenly “train” him with a friendly voice or attempts to pet him just doesn’t work.
It’s about understanding the breed and respecting the animals space, don’t force ur self on them . Listen too and read the animals body language . Same goes for cats they all have clear signals as too the mood that they are in if you pay attention

You nailed this breed perfectly. We have a mini doxie and sounds very similar.

My new miniatures chocolate-tan smooth-coat Dachshund is a very happy, playful, sooky, friendly and affectionate little fella. 😊💖
We've always had doxies since my parents were hobby hunters. I love em, I understand em but man, there sure are breeds that are easier to handle.

They certainly are as smart as a whip..

I put my dogs in the bedroom when clueless people visit. Also, gradual socialization might help.

Dachshunds are the most aggressive dogs in the world, because they are tired of being called weiner dogs.
Best dogs!!!!! No contest. Deal with it.
