Hi! Thanks for the video. I have a 2011 328i and spilled a liquid on my idrive. Will I need to get it programmed after replacing it? It seems fairly easy to replace but knowing BMW and their computer system can be risky.

Ok, but one question. I am thinking to buy a BMW 3 series coupe 2009 with the normal panel control and change it for the next upgraded system. How do i get the software to match the new panel control? The BMWs 3 series coupe 2010 come with the new panel control for the functions for the screen, but the software and layout are different from the original panel control. Hi Fritz- Does this upgrade work with a 2015 NBT base setup with no Nav retrofitted with the Android 10.25? Wondering if the button mapping works on cars which never supported them on the oem box? The 10.25 HU does have an option for Knob A or Knob B.
Hi Fritz, is the head unit with the fiber optic cable required for the 7 button iDrive? I swapped my 5 button for a 7 button (both have 4 pin connections) but the 7 button doesn’t work, and doesn’t light up. Could be a faulty unit from eBay but I need your advice please. I’m driving a 2011 1 series F20 116i hatchback with professional radio (ie no fiber optic and now comm box in the trunk). I’ve already upgraded to the android 10.25 screen and it works fine.

Hi, I have a bmw 5 series f10, the nav button is not working on it, so in this case I can't access to my map !
All others buttons are in perfect working condition .. just the nav is a problem !

My 2018 116d doesn't show Navigation in the menu. If I replace that piece with that one that has the Nav button, I will be able to access Nav? Without extra hardware?

Hi Fritz, I saw your video to replace the 5 button idrive with the 7 button idrive. Originally you also had no navigation? because you had a 5 button idrive. You can now also control everything via the 7-button idrive for your navigation? I will probably also install an android screen soon and perhaps also replace the idrive button.
Yes, correct. I would do the android unit first. I was talking to someone who did the idrive first and for some reason the knob didn't work at all. Did you have any questions about the android unit? That install is pretty simple as well.

I got the big android screen and I hate it.. I can’t get it todo hardly anything it’s supposed todo..the phone is linked but I cannot get Spotify up on the screen unless i play the old way also I can’t get the apple play to work even tho it was when I first put the screen in.

Hi Fritz, is the 4-pin plug the only thing concerns? I have seen many 4 pin iDrive Controller from different BMW models, are they all compatible? Some 4 Pin controllers are even from CIC System... I'm a bit confused, hope you can give me some tips :)
I've started to notice people saying that the CIC is not as straightforward as the NBT. I'll have to get back to you.

What did you start with? I might be picking up a 2015 328 F30 without factory navigation but it does have the 6.5" screen above the dash.
I started with the 5 button idrive. If you plan on upgrading the screen I would do that first

Good video, but honestly, how long did you wrestle with that little blue plug? That plug is causing so much aggravation. I don't think I've ever cursed this much... And that's saying a lot as I've spent a significant portion of my military career as an Infantry Marine...

I have a F21 118i 2015 136hp which does not have navigation or rear camera and i am thinking to replace my 6.5" screen with a Bizzar 10.25". Do you think that a 7 button idrive will work with that (placing the screen first as you suggest in your replies).

Hi, perhaps you could give me some guidance. I have HU_Entry (no nav) I have an MMI installed and bought a used 7 button iDrive controller, I have just tried it in my car and it does nothing at all. There is no power going to it. Have put my old on in, I have a 2013 F30 and the iDrive controller I am trying is out of a 2014. Any ideas?

My car did have the OEM backup camera. I believe the manufacturer for the screen also makes a backup camera that can be integrated.

For NBT it should be okay. CIC seems to have more requirements.
Can I get this if I don't have the GPS in my XDrive? I do however have a carlinkit MMI box installed. So when I hold menu I switch to android auto.
Yes that is exactly how I use it on my android screen. When I hold down the nav button it brings up waze (you can program this in)

Ramos, I do have 2013 328i. I ve trying to Get SiriusXM, but it doesn’t give the option. I called bmw , they say, “ the car has a tuner”. I contacted seriusxm even with their help I was no able to acquire the signal. What is option for Sirius xm..
I believe that you need to get a specific component for it. Unless there is an app for it, then you could use carplay or android auto
Can retro fit the I drive button from a 2015 i3 into 2018 i3?
The pins have to line up and if the features are the same it should work fine.
Hey Fritz, I swapped my 5 button to the 7 button, but when I plug it in, the Idrive controller does nothing. Now I tried this with my current BMW system, I haven't received my Android unit yet. Do I need to wait until the android unit comes to verify it will work? or should the new 7 button at least work on the BMW unit
It should atleast work but it depends which part number you get as only a certain part number will work either 955 or 966 part number one of those will work
What year is your car? What part number was your old and new idrive controller? I can’t get this to work.

Hey Fritz, I got the same thing. I got an F20 with 5 option idrive and installed an android of AVIN. Are you sure I can just plug and play if I find another 7 button idrive controller? Simple as that? And also… With the old one, you dont have any lighting on top of the controller-knob , do you get the 4 arrows on the knob lit up on the 7 button one now? Thanks!
As long as the pins line up it is plug and play. I never noticed if it lit up, but I checked today and no it does not. Great question!

Man, this is the quickest upgrade! I did it a couple of nights ago, took about 10 minutes. The new 7 button controller is fully lit up and I love being able to go straight to navi. Thanks Fritz 👍

The controller has the capability but you have to buy and install another unit to connect the controller to the radio head unit. Although I'm not sure if the touch feature works on the android side

It shouldn't be that hard. Just make sure to pull on the harness (not the wires) as you wiggle it side to side.

Fritz Ramos I’m unsure when I start the car the knob that clicks okay when your gonna play music or click to go to navigation. Or any other forum of clicking okay it doesn’t click . So how do I fix it ? Is there a cheap route to fix it

If that doesn't work try replacing the unit with a used one from ebay.
I've never worked on that idrive before so I'm unaware of the click you mentioned.
"Proceed to take out the 3 Torx 20 screws that hold the iDrive system into place." (then uses a Philips screwdriver).

You have to have the input from the head unit and y connection to make it work

Fritz Ramos Not at all. Pins line up ants too 5 buttons are exactly the same (radio, media, menu, navigation, phone)

I see. I first upgraded the head unit then the idrive. So I'm thinking that the aftermarket head unit sends a signal that allows interaction with several idrive knobs. I never tried an upgraded controller on the stick setup. Was there something wrong with your old controller?
The other thing I'm thinking is that the new idrive controller you have is broken. So you know for certain it works?
The last probability is that the connection might be dirty, you could use an electronics cleaner like this and see if it works amzn.to/342GU2K

I bought another 4 pin I drive controller for my 2013 bmw 328i but every time I plug in the new controller my Air conditioning doesn’t work and I get a seat belt malfunction warning! I don’t know why it does this!
Your air conditioning and seatbelt aren't associated with the idrive knob. Did you upgrade the screen as well?
No I only changed the knob to the same one in your video! sure enough when I plug it in it’s like the AC SYSTEM shuts off and doesn’t work and the knob doesn’t work either

I’m currently installing this for my 2013 bmw 328i with a 2012 build date. Having the same problem with the knob not working 🤔 no ac problems though & I have factory screen installed. Hmm
I have old one 5buttons and android unit. Than I follow this video and get one of controller with 7buttons. But it not working. Find place to retrofit controller and will cost me £150. With new wires.
