I think the way Ceraxes taking off looks is due to his weird body shape in general. Maybe they wanted to emphasize him being the "bloodwyrm" by wiggling through the air like that, idk. I thought the CGI looked fine mostly, but I agree - in some scenes it looks a bit off. But I can take that, as long as the rest of the show is good:)

Exactly. Caraxes is different, he even has those small wings on his legs.

I love Caraxes but sometimes he looks weird af. But I did hear that flight engineers they used to design the dragons , had problems with making Caraxes design plausible. So they added leg "wings" to act as lateral stability and he had to move in a certain way. I love that he's so different. His flight mechanics were painstakingly slaved over. So I'm fine with our Blood Wyrm.
Yo the stag was shit. Elks exist. And they are really fucking big and awesome. Just use an elk. Or don't show it. Something. It looked terrible.

The cgi budget and time might be severely stretched by all these different-looking dragons (some of which we have yet to see). GOT's three dragons had a lot of believability but they were also very similar. With any luck season two should iron the problems. Here's hoping anyway.

    • @aroidpapa

@@KevinPendragon I think you think Yikes because you are used to seeing Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal - Caraxes's body is entirely different so the rig in its entirety as well as the animation is going to be completely different. They are going for an entirely different breed of dragon for him. If he had the body he does and then would take off and fly like Syrax it would look a lot weirder than you are saying it does in S1.

@@KevinPendragoni thing the CG got better as the season progressed. This is consistent with leading theory that they didn't give the digital artists enough time.
This is actually a serious problem in Hollywood. They give computer SFX less and less time for major productions, and they don't even get paid that much. I remember watching a YT video about it and how the major studios have a lot of pull and manipulate small companies into doing a lot of work for free (or changes for free which is basically work for free). Many directors have unreasonable expectations and just don't understand how it works. Companies farm this work out overseas, too, so North American companies are competing with Asian labor rates .
And the audience... we blame the CG, the digital artists. But it's not them.
Game of Thrones had the best SFX in the game. Certainly a new standard for "TV"
In some cases, a new standard period.
The dragons (aside from season 1...) were perfect. Every fucking frame, evry movement evry look.. perfections.
Yeah, the endless flamethrower of Drogon was kinda a bit much, but the SFX did what it could with what they were told to create.
I was thoroughly disappointed in HOTD dragons

Maybe Caraxes looked a little bit weird when he took off the ground due to its body size and shape. If you compare it to Danaerys’ dragons (Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion), you can notice the massive difference between their bodies’ structures. While Drogon and his brothers are much more compact and muscular, with shorter necks and with larger chests, Caraxes looks almost like a chinese dragon with a long serpentine body, with pretty tiny legs and massive and long neck. That’s why it’s been nicknamed “The Blood Wyrm”. His wings are quite big and proportionally matching his body size and weight, but I agree that some CGI issues in some dragon scenes could’ve been more well developed

the worst of it was vhagar in episode 6. The second largest dragon ever and they made it look almost like it was just a tad bit bigger than caraxes. Vhagar should be humongous. Portraying the sheer size of the dragons has been this show’s problems. GOT did it so well. When drogon came to the dragonpit he looked absolutely humongous. I’m a huge fan of the book and I really need vhagar done right, because she is supposed to represent a nuclear weapon level threat. Even the fire doesn’t look as damaging and as real as GOT. They should bring back some of the animation team from GOT, they put up the best CGI dragons on film.

Tale out that first unnecessary sentence. These complaints aren't illogical, and you only put that there to snark on the creator. It brought down the intelligence of the rest of your comment. In the video he shows how certain aspects of the CGI were done well on GOT, which is also a TV show. That's a logical argument. It's also logical that you weren't distracted by the same things he was in the show. People have different preferences. Nothing about either of your opinions is illogical except you using the word illogical to try to downplay his.

    • @ajae...
      @ajae... Рік тому

@@amanhelios But he didn't criticize those things. His main criticisms were for the movement of the dragons. Cyrax in particular. As well as the movements of the other animals on the screen. Dragons have never existed, so giving them the quality of being real will be subjective, but GOT previously leaned on giving them movements that are similar to animals we do have. The creator made that very logical connection then showed the differences between Cyrax and Drogon. Maybe it was done purposefully, but Cyrax doesn't look like he can get himself into the air realistically. I lot of people liked that about him. This creator didn't (and I agree), but again a difference of opinion doesn't make anything he said illogical.
I see you think you can't make a comment without attacking people, so maybe that's why you reached for a word like illogical. But it doesn't mean what you think it means. It doesn't fit. Unimaginative would have been a better insult if you couldn't refrain from attacking and simply state your position.
To answer your last very logical and not silly at all question: Yes, I sleep with dragons. I fvck them, to be exact. That's where all my dragon knowledge comes from. Glad you caught that. The show has already contacted me for descriptions of realistic dragon dicks.

When all of RoP is greenscreen and CGI which isn't bad by any means but it looks more cartoony in comparison to HotD((

I glad we have the show and I like the show, but I have several complaints.
    1. chopy editing and bad cgi
    2. is the lack of music from Ramin (intro song for example)
    3. The story is too fast paced. (We only have 1 episode with certain actors for example)
It feels like this whole season HBO or the production has been second guessing itself.

I agree. Caraxes' scenes are noticeably distracting sometimes. Syrax's face looked weird at the funeral pyre scene. Laenor's dragon has been the best CGI so far and that's probabaly because that dragon looks more like Dany's dragons so they're probably used to working with that model in the CGI department. Also the scene of Viserys looking out the window before he revealed who he'll marry to the small council was very bad CGI.

Props to Rhythm and Hues (RIP) for their professional care and artistic prowess when animating and compositing/lighting the scenes in the original Game of Thrones. That is certainly why they took home awards and why they are still the best dragon crafting team. Though I am a bit biased. That being said .. so far Vhagar is the best animated and represented on the dragon-ridden cadre. Much better weight and camera work. Despite the Benny Hill moments with her child rider.

The main problem with Ceraxes is that there is no living analog with a similar body plan. Birds flap while pushing off with there legs. Bats and from what we can tell from tracks, pterosaurs used there wings to do a super pushup to get off the ground. All animals with 4wings or snake like body are super small extinct and could only glide from tree to tree. They can't take off from ground level. Ungelating to gain extra momentum is really the simplest way to conceive of Ceraxes to get in the air that doesn't involve jumping off a cliff.

I believe covid had a lot do with this. Most of the show was filmed at the worst part of the situation. They had to use closed indoor sets with limited people on set. As for CGI rendering much of it became remote work without the ability for the people to be in their usual studios. Sounds like I am making excuses, and maybe I am. But I do think it played a part. I'll be curious to see if it improves with a much more normal season 2 filming schedule.

One advantage of not having played a lot of video games or other media that relies heavily on CGI is that I really don't have an eye for it. There have been a couple of instances where I've noticed it in this show, but nothing has bothered me about it. Compare that to Rings of Power, with the googly eyed warg that moved like a plastic animal being scooted around by a toddler, and I'm pretty satisfied with HotD. The CGI has to be really bad for me to notice it. Caraxes is a noodle that flops around in the air, but I can kind of buy it because I've never actually seen a real flying noodle to compare him to.

  • @BlackQback

I don't mind CGI of dragons, however, the castle really looks awful. But that's the difference between filming in the real city that mostly looks the same as it did in 17-18th century, and only adding CGI details for imaginary buildings (e.g. the Red Keep) and building a set for interiors and filling the rest with CGI. I'm no CGI expert, but I do know some people who do work with CGI, and apparently it's better to add CGI architecture into existing one - you can better match texture, look of masonry etc. to make your CGI building look more realistic, have more substance.

For the most part, I agree. Due to Caraxes having an overall unique and different body shape than the other dragons, he would move different. However, he does suffer from a lack of what dragons in GOT have, weight. He seems to "lift off" too easy, such as in the Dragon pit. Vhagar also suffers from this, as when she first flies with Aemond she floats off the groud. Even a year later, it bothers me when rewatching it. Lastly, this may be more nitpicky, but dragons in HOTD look too different from GOT dragons. What I mean is, that GOT dragons have different types of scales in various sizes and textures. While HOT dragons seem to be primarily covered in leathery skin vs scales. They just look too different to be apart of the same universe to me.

Oh that dragon take off 😬
I would say the design of it does not help, its so long and lanky that every time it beats its wings its body does the dolphin thing twice and you would think something that long and lanky would be a bit more stiff when trying to get airborn cause i cannot imagine moving so much would be cost/energy efficient
They also could of fixed it maybe by just making it so he couldnt do liftoffs and had to glide off of a high place to get into the air
Or they could make its little back leg wings put some effort into the take off

    • @validark
      @validark 2 роки тому +1

Went back to watch the clip and
      1) he beat his wings like twice while still kicking off while every other dragon really only beats their wings once theyve kicked off iirc
      2) *his legs go out to make use of his back wings once hes off the ground so he obviously uses those wings just make him glide*
      3) he is far too long for the cgi to ever work well for him im afraid

I think Rhaena will claim either Sheep Stealer or Vermithor. It's established in the books that dragons will tolerate people their riders love. Like family and friends. I think Daemon was trying to get Vermithor used to him so that Rhaena can approach.
Daemon would want his daughter to have a dragon. Sheep stealer may be taken by someone else completely and actually be his future lover.
Tldr: Rhaena will tame Vermithor and Nettles will be Nettles and her and Daemon will actually fall in love.
I dont think they will do the story of the two betrayer. Or if they do, it will be characters we know. Re watching the show and they really lean into Mushrooms telling of how things went. Like hard.

A person who understands 0 about anatomy, saying a serpent like reptile, which is what Caraxed is based upon, moves strangely. Have you ever seen a snake moving fast? they propel their heads forward, exactly like Caraxes, the side-to-side swaying, again, a characteristic of movement in snakes. The takeoff, notice the back legs and arching extra "flaps" and how they propel against the ground, look at any long tailed bird and you will see this exact same movement. It's almost like your basing your entire opinion on what you *think* looks best, as opposed to the hundreds of hours poured over reference animation to give every dragon their own flair. After you used probably one of the worst take offs in GOT as a reference, in that same clip, they are taking off from a levelled plane, and there is 0 resistance in Rhaegal to take off. Now look at any dragon taking flight in HOTD. My man, you need to do some research instead of just saying "dragon look bad"
