  • In this week’s vlog we cruised our NARROWBOAT floating home from the mooring where we left you last week, near bridge 9 on the Leicester Line of the Grand Union canal. We cruise through Crick Tunnel and emerge to sunshine and a fallen tree! We use the devices at Crick, mooring up and meet our friends for lunch. We use the local post office stores for Post Restanté to receive our mail and stay a few days. The towpath is so so muddy, all part of winter boating! We get low on diesel, so have to use the local Crick marina services and then moor back up to stay local for deliveries. We end up reversing back to the Crick service point as we get low on water and have a family visit. However, when our TIME’S UP, the weather is awful, but we have no choice but to move! Winter cruising is not always dry and scenic, but we always have fun and giggles 🤣 We get a special visit at the next mooring ……. before using the fuel boat the next day!
    Hope you all enjoy this video! 😃 xx

    Hi Julia and Martin,
    Once again you brought back memories. Martin should definitely start drawing again. His painting was lovely.
    Linda, my wife, and I both paint. When we were on the Llangollen canal we stopped at a pub for our evening meal. While we were there Linda painted a picture of the nearby bridge and moored narrow boat. The wind caught her painting and it went in to the canal landing face up. I got my fishing rod and fished it out. Amazingly, there was very little water damage, which she managed to rectify. While the painting was laid out drying the owners of the boat came along and recognised their boat and asked if they could buy the painting. Linda explained what had happened, so it was a true watercolour, and said if they liked it that much they could have it. They were over the moon and insisted on buying her a drink in the pub that evening. They took our email address and sent us a photo of her painting, framed and hanging in the cabin of their narrow boat. I believe the name of the boat was 'Kingfisher'.
    Sorry if I have bored you with this memory, but that is what your videos are doing for me, bringing back lovely memories.
    There are some lovely pictures in your videos that I would love to paint, but will not because I respect your copyright. Thank you for sharing your experiences and excellent photography.
    Barry xx

      Hi Barry, what a lovely memory, thank you for sharing it with us! We absolutely don’t mind at all if you want to paint something from our videos, please feel free to! It would be lovely to see them if you do, perhaps if you could take a photo once complete and send it by email, that would be nice 😊 Our email address is julieandmartinonrib@gmail.com Thanks Barry! xx

      @JulieandMartinonRIB Thank you for your kind response and for allowing me to use your videos. Due to the arthritis in my hands and knee, holding pencils and brushes is awkward and I can't sit with my knee bent for very long, so I am not a fast worker, but I will send you photos of anything I produce. I have an appointment to see my surgeon on 1st May regarding a knee replacement, so fingers crossed, one problem will be eliminated soon. The next step will be to go to a second-hand shop and buy some new (or should I say second-hand) hands. 😀
      Thank you once again for everything.
      Barry xx

    Hello again, Julie and Martin! I hope you are both well and cruising along well in 2024! Speaking of it being freezing, we here in the Midwestern US are in for quite a nasty storm and change of weather coming up this weekend. Here in Chicago, a snowstorm is expected tomorrow and into Saturday morning, leaving behind somewhere between 4 - 12 inches (10-30cm), depending on how far north the storm tracks, along with 30-40mph winds, creating possible blizzard conditions. Then, our temperatures are going to plummet. We've enjoyed quite a warm winter so far, with temperatures staying it the 30s, 40s and even 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 to -4 C) throughout December and into January, but starting on Sunday our temps are falling into the single digit degrees Fahrenheit for daytime highs, and as much as -10 degrees F (-15 to -23 C) for overnight lows through Wednesday of next week! My hubby and I are laying in groceries tonight, then hunkering down and staying warm and dry in the house for the next several days!

      Oh crikey Chris, that is so cold!! Sounds like you’ve got a plan, plenty of food, keep warm and hunker down. Hope it doesn’t last too long for you, stay safe! Thank you so much, speak soon xx

    I hope you don’t mind me asking but why are your videos so far behind as we are now in the middle of January, love watching you both on your journeys 😊

    • @JulieandMartinonRIB
      @JulieandMartinonRIB  5 місяців тому

      Hi Annette! Of course we don’t mind. We have to be a little behind, as we need time to edit the videos, it takes 2-3 days to edit fully. We also had Christmas and New Year and we like to put those videos out at those times so you’re not watching us celebrating Christmas in January or February lol. We also had the security camera to install, video and review, so that took up another week. The video we’re currently editing for this Thursday was filmed in December, next weeks will be the last bit of December to January (missing out Xmas & New Year) then we’re into January, so really it’s just a couple of weeks which is fine. Also, we had been working on the new channel trailer that we’ve just released too, along with a new intro for this year. It all takes time and we’re amateurs so probably takes us a lot longer than the pro’s 🤪.
      In winter you generally don’t move as much, so need a bit of a buffer time-wise, in case we get frozen in and can’t cruise, as we are at the moment❄️🥶. Hope this all makes sense, sorry to waffle a bit lol. So pleased you are still enjoying our videos! Thank you Annette! xx

    • @JulieandMartinonRIB
      @JulieandMartinonRIB  5 місяців тому +2

      Hi Jane, very sorry you feel this way, but unfortunately a hooter is a necessity when boating. It is used when approaching tunnels, blind bends or bridges, when leaving a marina, or coming out of a junction etc. They need to be loud too, as narrowboats can be up to 72 foot long, with the driver standing at the back above an engine, so they need to be able to hear it. It’s a shame you weren’t actually watching the video this evening, as I had purposely put warnings up right across the screen so that it wouldn’t make people jump, so it was unfortunate that you were in another room and just listening. We try to make our videos appeal to everyone, but didn’t imagine that they would not be watched. It’s a shame you felt the need to unsubscribe, but we cannot cruise without a horn. Thank you for watching Jane xx
