    The fact that player this weak got into GM because of maphacks really shows how important the map awarness is. But it's kinda sad at the same time

    • @StephenKarl_Integral
      @StephenKarl_Integral Рік тому +2

      It only matters at low leagues. Let's assume multiple scenarios :
      1) you're on the ladder, silver/gold, you play against a bunch of maphackers, you lose, most of the time. That just means you don't get worse, you get better, each time. If you have time, watch replays, report obvious hacks, *move on...* you'll get better and will eventually rank up...
      2) you're now plat. In order for maphackers to beat you, they would require to be slightly less experienced than you... or, they must take full advantage of the hacks. You lose, you derank to gold, don't worry, go to replays, it's obvious, they're hacking, report them... move on...
      3) you rank up again, plat/master, and it's the same, *you even got better.* Hackers cannot beat you unless being blatant, and those trying to hide their cheatery aren't a match anymore, because they are wasting valuable actions. You WIN ! Report the last few dumb enough to still use a hack on plat league and above...
      As you can see, in the first replay of the video, the maphack is blatant, and Pig had hard time to defend. The actual hacker level gets obvious on the second replay : that's how he plays when trying hard to dilute his actions into "normal" ones, *he's just **_that_** baaaaaad,* not a single attack, got crushed on the first assault. Remember : you still get better each game, the cheater cannot...
      Bottom line is, a hacker won't ever shine in SC2, unlike other games, it's so randomly tactical (part of the strategy) that you cannot get better via hack, you remain gold/half plat, and since you started with hacks, it's even harder to get back on course and play fair, *you don't have the fundamentals in the first place.* Hacker being weak is not by chance, you just cannot be good - in SC2 - the moment you use hacks.

Also, it is amazing how he never took an expansion. You would think anyone who has played the campaigns would at least know how to take one (1) expansion.

    If you really wanted to make it convincing while map hacking, you could even do something as simple as setting up a camera location between their main & natural.
    That way you're always jumping to the exact same spot for the scout, it's not an unreasonable camera location set up ahead of time where you plan to attack or scan, and if you're swapping between them quickly it could just be written off as a fidget. Though this is really only true if you were actually using a control group where you might be swapping between a forward camera and an army centered camera.

    • @jkkim6928
      @jkkim6928 Рік тому +2

      Nobody sets camera spots to enemy main, so that is already a giveaway

    • @Deadlychuck84

      @@jkkim6928 I do all the time when I'm doing a rush and certain timing attacks. Though I play zerg so often I will have an overlord anyway.
      It just makes sense to be able to snap your camera to where the enemy will need to be positioned to defend, even if you don't always have vision there.

    • @StephenKarl_Integral
      @StephenKarl_Integral Рік тому

      There are special tools that evaluates if you are _reactive_ to hidden fog of the war informations, such as blob units movement, new structures, expansions... Some (if not all) deep and not so deep AI models for SC2 were designed in a way to make some realistic guess of where the ennemy could be, and suddenly, developpers realized it was possible to quantify how much actions of guess *makes sense* and how much actions are likely the result of knowing exactly where the opponent's units are despite under the fog of war, with a factor of relevancy.
      That said, I don't know if the tools (the extrapolated set of tools to assess logical vs cheating actions) made it to the monitoring of hackers, and of course, in the first place, it is probably impossible to check all SC2 games, one or several must report a game to get evaluated.
      What I'm saying is, there are countless ways to make a "fair" game "convincing" despite hacking, but that prompts the question "does it matter ?". Not only some tools can be used to output hacking statistics through any replay data or set of replays, but in SC2 either you get better and you have no practical time to get any advantage in using a (set of) hack, or you waste your time trying to disguise hacks in a normal game, and you get no better at SC2...
      The math behind those advanced modules are :
      - various maps of area of interests, like safety/threat level, gridwalk of highest winrate runby, resources, defensive positions, timings of upgrades/resources saturation/attacks, drops/pylon-prism warp/nydius potentials, units composition dynamics (7 stalkers with a warp prism and 5 gates have more potential than 12 stalkers)... each map gets updated realtime.
      - human/AI action vectors : you click or change camera, that's a vector>grid walk and/or an area of interest, it goes through the various above maps, a likely _reason_ for that action gets evaluated.
      - Upon any action, you get something like _"you want to go/do something there because [reason] while taking this [kind and amount] of risks, meaning you're [good/bad/knows some information...]",_ then calibrated depending on previous actions.
      - Every action gets plotted on various graph overtime, how long you do/want/intend to do something under what circumstances and amount of risks... if there is correlation between some graph areas and the couple graphs of _"makes no sense"_ actions, then either you're very bad at the game all the time, another couple of graphs will confirm it and it's okay, or you have extra information.
      That's the basis, with a lot of recursivity and degressive time/separation calibration in order to reduce false positive. Modules can be adapted to detect/highlight the specifics of a precise hack. The technology exists. Is it used ? I don't know, but, if I were to investigate, I would. As you can see, if the point of hacking is *to take actions,* while those actions gets evaluated from the macro down to the split second micro level, and you suggest to dilute those actions in a way it looks "normal", that just means "do nothing other than playing the game without hack..." (the moment those modules get involved)

    • @LucianDevine
      @LucianDevine Рік тому

      They'd still likely get caught when they did the slow scroll up and down after jumping to the map location, which, as Winter said, is often one of the many dead giveaways.

      Game2 has a suspicious interaction with observers. But since toss is extremely prepared its legit again. overall its just simple blind 3rax gameplay. Very lazy analysis. Mostly emphasizing low skill level of a barcode player instead of illegal moves. But since he is playing NA it seems legit again.
      My thoughts after watching the whole video - not convinced if the guy is a hacker or if he just doesn't care about what he is doing. "Strikes" given beforehand made this "investigation" less interesting to watch. Disappointed.

      I also watched PiG's video. This guy always moved his marines to catch the oracle coming 1 second before. Also he dodged disruptors shots before they came out of the fog of war. Scrolling through the fog of war at random times and exposing his army for a minute in the middle of the map without any vision, not even a gold player does that.
      It's painfully obvious, if the fact that he is so very bad, slow, no macro or control groups, while being into GM (top 200 players) didn't give it away.

      He moved his marines towards the oracle before he could see it at around 13:00. There's no reason whatsoever to move two marines towards that ledge there unless to intercept an oracle. No reason at all. I agree the scrolling through fog of war is less suspicious than people here think because it could be just checking the base for buildings (i might do that in my games too), but intercepting the oracle like that, for me, with the rest, is just unexplainable without map hacks. No amount of being lazy to justify that.
      Afaik stasis traps aren't revealed by hacks, only fog of war is lifted. At least other maphackers walked into traps all the time too.

      We either have the exposed hacker here in the comments or a different hacker, gotta love it when they out themselves like this. Maybe try getting good at the game on your own merits instead of leaning on crutches like a complete tool.
