I would cut out the backlight and case to make a window then reassemble the frame. I would also reattach the touch interface because it usually creates a nicer bezel than anything DIY I can build. I'm curious how it looks with color but without the double polarization of a lcd on top of an lcd.
How about using a 3d resin printer style, use an led pixel panel for extreme brightness or a small pitch pixel display?
