    You could put it inside a white PC case against the glass front panel and connect it to the PC. You'll need a alot of white led strips inside the case to create enough blacklight for the screen tho. Thinking of doing this in Lian li o11 case.

      Did you end up doing it? I was thinking of this exact use case too. Just wondering if it is possible to remove to polarized filter completely

    The fluorescence tubes in TFT are cold cathode. Not like them in the kitchen. They need approxymally 10 KV. If they get to less Voltage they shine light blue to the proportional Length. 5KV half. 2.5KV only a Quater. and so on. Which is a nice effect. You can try to mod the supply for this on the sens resistors. Should be in an 12V circut switched by 1 or 2 5V Logic Level and 1 PWM from the Digital Board.

    Put it on a indoor window and remove the polarization film. It will appear clear, but if you get a lighter film, then you might be able to make a see through display for an office window or other indoor windows. What would be really cool is if you used a polarized pair of glasses, like 3D glasses, and a giant display on a window to create a private large screen for working purposes. Also, dimming the lights in the viewing room would increase the brightness of the display, but no matter what, since the screen is polarized on the inside and not out, you could make your office windows black when the lights are turned off which is a really cool concept. Imagine turning the lights low and ask an employee to step in your office, that would be so intimidating. I definitely wouldn’t want to work for that boss.

    If you havent made anything with this yet you should build a resin 3d printer. Mount a strong UV light behind it and a glass aquarium on top. Lay a piece of dark plastic in the aquarium and dump 2-3inches of UV resin in. When you display a black and white image on screen the white parts let UV light through to harden the resin in those areas. As you lift the plastic plate up the 3d figure builds up as the gap fills with resin. You only need an arduino to match the lifting speed, UV light and the image mask. Also remember to paint the aquarium black to keep the UV light from hardening your resin.
    I am currently looking for a big screen TV to build a massive SLA printer. A few weeks ago I saw 3 on the side of the road but I was on foot and too far from home.

    The screen literally needs only 5v DC to run.... You can cut out the AC 110/220v power completely. And yes, remove the front polarized layer and it will display a bit better

    I was thinking about doing this to my laptop screen, by making this become transparent. Building a custom frame with LEDS around the edges to see if It can display fully. This would be the first of it's kind.

      I'm pretty sure once that they made a laptop screen that you could fold back to put on an overhead projector. That would be a pretty similar idea I think.

      I did this on my x230 but unfortunately the space behind the lcd and the cover is too close that you can see the led light through it maybe try to remove the back cover at all but I'm not confident enough to do it on my favorite lappy

    "ginger"? Anyways, I'm suprised how these screens are encased in a bulky form. You could basically create a cheap ultrathin tv and hang it on the wall.

    Because the display no longer has to drive the cold cathode might be possible to power the logik and LCD driver with a bench top supply

      +ReabowRotors that's an interesting thought. I suspect the cold cathodes use hardly any power though. I might experiment on another monitor. I was experimenting with your flir, I'll tweet you all interesting photo

    Were you ever able to make this display more transparent? Just wondering if removing the polarizing film helped or would help?

    • @excitedbox5705
      @excitedbox5705 4 роки тому +2

      No this is a normal dark lcd. That means the lcd crystals block light in their unpowered state and let light through when they are on. There are color filters in there to create colors but the light comes from the backlighting. If you display a white image on the display that is the max light you can pass through. These can be used for a resin 3d printer though. If you mount a UV light under the panel as a light source and a black and white image as a mask. The white pixels let UV light through and harden the resin. As you slowly lift the top plate and change your masking image on screen it builds up your 3d resin item.

      I ended up trashing it. I was asked by many people to r revive the polarizer. Removing the polarisers completely stops a TFT from functioning but I did it anyway, just to keep the polarising film 😁

  • @JaredReabow
    @JaredReabow 6 років тому

    I had opened it before hence why I discovered that it seems to need a lot of light I believe that a couple of those sheets May be polarizers that change the polarisation of the light to that that the LCD requires

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  6 років тому

      +ReabowRotors That makes a lot of sense, that would concentrate the light more compared to the illumination panel. The panel probably does the opposite 🤔

    • @andreasgrothusheitkamp1897
      @andreasgrothusheitkamp1897 6 років тому

      Yes and No. The polarizers are direct on the pannel on both sites. If you remove one its permanent White. The sheets are mostly for even lightning and reflectin of wrong polarized light.

    • @JaredReabow
      @JaredReabow 6 років тому

      Andreas Grothusheitkamp I think one of the sheets is a scatter sheet that is designed to evenly scatter the polarization and then another sheet changes polarisation 90 degrees whilst letting through light of the correct polarization I may be entirely wrong but I believe this is what happens

    I've picked up a few broken Dell monitors like that before and fixed them. Always wanted to use them to build a smart mirror but I kinda like the idea of having it mounted on a window. I wonder how transparent it would be if you had a white image on the screen.

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  6 років тому

      +Watcher75 I'm a bit dubious if sunlight is concentrated enough to get this to work. I might need to read about lumens and stuff to try and figure it out. I went to an Arcade to chuck out a cabinet they have using transparent glass case and the TFT on that was super clear

    • @andreasgrothusheitkamp1897

      When it is White a normal pannel absorbs arraund 50% of the light on the first polarizer.

    THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!! I'm an artist looking for answers and and hope you can help Just a few questions; would it be possible hypothetically to coat this surface with a foreign compound such as dry wall or gloss enamel if treated properly? In addition is there a way to get a truly transparent monitor using this method?

    • @backofficeshow
      @backofficeshow  5 років тому +1

      For the first question, yes, I am sure you could. For the second, there are additional layers and polarisers on the screen, you would likely need to remove these to make it clearer

      @@backofficeshow Thanks for getting back to me. So it is possible for both Cool! Very excited and can't wait to put your knowledge to work. I'm thinking for one to treat with something transparent but non conductive, and for two take of the polarizing layers as suggested but could you tell me the absolute base layer to use and still get a readable image not super clear but luminescent and containing some color information or is it just a matter of experimentation? Thanks A LOT! I really appreciate your time and expertise.

    up a mirror behing the display as it can work as a reflictive lcd dispay
    hi bro can you put a mirror behind the transprent display, or cote the back side of the display with mirror reflactive pant so that we can see it an be like a "REFLECTIVE LIQUID CHRISTAL DISPLAY" if it work the it can beet the e ink display "the gole is to make a white display when the display i off " it mens you have to remove the polizering filem and attach in such a way it makes the black white and the white black, then play a negative colour video on the display , (ye are doing all of this so when the displya is in off mode the natural light can go inside the display in the transprent mode and then reflect back out by the mirrors and then come out from the rgb filter and it would be theritically a white display ) as soom as we on the display the filter the white have to change the colours now how to dring back the blacks this why is told to invers or nagative the video before playing the white become black and then the invers plorizition display once againinvers the black in t white winn winn situation .
