To clarify the Persephone bit, she is the goddess of Spring. She spends half of the year down in the underworld with Hades, which brings about Fall and Winter. I don't recall if she was tricked into eating or if she ate of her own volition, but she ate a pomegranate in the underworld, and once you eat there, you are bound to it. So she can only leave for so long before she has to return, which gives us our cycle of the season in the mythos.

she was in part tricked/naive about what she was eating, it was also the case of Demeter her mother searched for her throughout the world until she found her in Hades's realm and Zeus had to intercede, and eventually a deal was worked out that she would spend her time for 6 months in hades and 6 months back with her mother. but you are correct.

Persephone actually isn’t the goddess of spring. She’s the queen of the underworld. The reason fall and winter happen is because when Persephone is in the underworld with Hades Demeter gets glum and stops making things grow. Zeus was also the one who connived the initial kidnapping because Hades was in love with Persephone.

If I recall correctly, Hades is actually the Big Brother, the oldest from the trio, I'd like to think the reason he's not king of the gods is because he just prefers the serenity of the Underworld and tries to stay out of the drama.

It is because Zeus got to choose as it was him who defeated Kronos. At the time, the Underworld was considered one of the greatest honours however the bigger reason was that Gaea, the Earth, grew increasingly mad at Zeus for killing Kronos but bore no resentment to Hades so Zeus put him there to try and prevent Gaea from getting angrier. Other than that, you're almost right. Hades was the last to be swallowed so he was the first to be released however by then Zeus was older than the rest of them. The oldest if you go off who was born first was Hestia.

Fun fact hades is also the god of wealth that’s why you have to pay to enter his kingdom and he was probably considered the most powerful of the brothers as the god of death worked directly under him and there’s a theme throughout the mythology that all leaders eventually fall and die like the chronos so hades would one day rule over all the gods and all living things in the world

7:21 so… long story short, Persephone is the daughter of the goddess of nature (Demeter) and during fall and winter, Persephone is forced to return to the underworld with hades because of a mishap invoking a pomegranate, at least in the versions I’ve read

The story of persephone is that she is bound to the underworld. For 6 months of the year she returns to the surface and her mother, Demeter, is happy to see her daughter and makes it spring. Then, when she returns to her husband and her throne, her mother gets sad and it makes winter.
Persephone isn't a goddess of Spring, she is Queen of the dead. The ultimate power couple.
    Fire collaboration.

Cool thing about hades. Hes usually described in pop-cukture as an evil guy ehile zues is a good guy(like disney Hercules) but hades actually usually did ehat was right. The worse he did was kidnap Persephone. Who actually fell for him because he was chivalrous and kind. And let her go to Olympus when she wanted to except for when she is tied to the underworld. He also is the most reserved of the brothers about having children on earth.

Also despite popular and classical depictions showing Zeus with White hair, Zeus is the youngest Brother while Hades is the Eldest Brother. The title of King of The Gods is Hades by Birth Right even if he doesn’t have the title, it hardly matters to him because all things of the earth will be his subject eventually. Also Hades has a dangerous temper that is seldom shown but his Wife his widely known as the one you should fear. They’re known in mythology as Stalwart Hades and Dread Persephone.

@@fist-of-doom487 I only know about two guys who managed to piss Hades off. Theseus (the one who killed the Minotaur) and his brother, Pirithus, of Athens who went to the Underworld to kidnap Persephone so that Pirithus could marry her (those two jokers had to be high out of their minds). Hades met them at the entrance to his palace, invited them to dinner, and promptly bound them to their chairs with snakes whose venom was slowly fusing them to their chairs and sicked the Furies on them. Heracles eventually came down on one of his 12 Labors, freed Theseus, and was stopped by Hades before freeing Pirithus, as the whole debacle was Pirithus’ idea.

It's also the case that Poseidon had a number of children similar to Zeus. not as many though, but he also had a son that was known as a pirate that grabbed many across the Aegean. and Poseidon wasn't just the god of the sea which he did cause a lot of flooding he was also the god of earthquakes and did have a number of sea beasts causing different heroes their own struggles.

For the Hade's rap, when he drops the line of stepping and thunder sounds, its not a reference to zeus. Its essentially describing the sheer weight and power he has. Big shoes to fill, so to speak.
Sad that there is so little stories of him in greek mythology, although it makes sense considering he was one of the few who tended to mind his own business the most and when he made his appearances; usually reasonable and fair.
When Hera tried to get Hercules killed she'd sent him to defeat Cerberus as one of his trials. Hercules realized he'd better be respectful and smart, asked Hades for permission, got it so long as he didn't harm the doggie.
Then Hades went straight to Hera to warn her about keeping her shit in her own yard from now on, or else she'd learn the distant king's reach, was more than enough to find her throat.

Persephone is the wife of Hades, that's correct, but Fall and Winter happen when she leaves Earth to go back to the Underworld because her mom Demeter gets gloomy that her daughter has to leave for half a year.
Also Hades is not death or god of death, that would be Thanatos. Hades is the god of the dead. Minor difference, but a major one in this case.

Poseidon was known to “take” whoever he wanted one instance he took Medusa in the Temple of Athena which resulted in Athena turning her into the Gorgon we know today. So that’s at least one of his atrocities

    • @coltonwilliams4153
      @coltonwilliams4153 11 місяців тому

@@zeroskillfamin3875 Asterius the Minotaur was more of a prank than an atrocity, as far as Poseidon goes. The king of Minos tried to weasel his way out of a deal with Poseidon, so Poseidon slipped Aphrodite a 20 and had Minos’ wife fall in love with the bull Minos was supposed to sacrifice to Poseidon. The result was the Minotaur. Any atrocities that resulted from that fiasco are squarely on Minos’ head, as he was the one who decided to feed Athenians to Asterius.
As far as Medusa, that’s hazy. There are older texts that speak of a race of Gorgons, and Medusa was their queen, and the person who most often talked about Poseidon “taking” the priestess of Athena in her temple had a reputation for telling stories that put the gods in the worst possible light. But I’m inclined to believe the race of gorgons version, cause there’d be no explanation as to why Medusa’s sisters were also gorgons.

Ok Greek here to clear the air
1st Zeus was a total d1(k on Roman mythology which was spread mostly by the Roman poet Ovid whom hated the gods (which is why they're so bad in that version)
In the original Greek mythology though the only bad thing Zeus had is constantly cheating his wife Hera (which mind you there's not clarification of being actual relative of her unlike the Roman version) but even that he didn't assaulted any girl, he did fa@(k up those who disrespected him though.
    2. Yes, Heracles weapon of choices is whatever he had at the moment usually that was his hand though in some instances he did use bow, stick, sword and club.
    3. Poseidon supposedly r@p3d medusa who was a priestess of Athena and Caenis, again the issue with that is that Caenisis not mentioned in the Greek mythology and just the Roman one and in some of the Greek version medusa was already a monster who was trying in some cases to seduce men in order to make them look into her eyes and turn them into stone ( take what you want from cause in Medusa's case both versions are Greek but Caeni isn't).
    4. Persephone was abducted by Hades with the help of Zeus (in some cases it's indicated that Persephone was into that plot too) and when she went down she ate half of the underworld's fruit, meanwhile her mother Demeter was weeping and threatened Zeus that if he doesn't help her find her daughter she constantly leaves the seasons at fall and winter till man kind dies so Zeus made a deal for 6 moths to be with her mother and the other 6 with Hades. Also to clear the air Zeus didn't touch Persephone in the Greek mythology, he did it to the Roman again.
Also Hades was loyal but Persephone cheated on him with Adonis

A story behind the many atrocities of Poseidon one comes to mind. Medusa, the Gorgon best known for turning people to stone upon eye's gaze was once a priestess of Athena, goddess of Wisdom and Warfare. Medusa was most well known for great beauty and devotion. As a priestess she was sworn to purity and sexual abstinence. Well, her beauty was so well known that it caught the attention of Poseidon, god of the seas. He did everything from flirting to taking a cue from Zeus and turning into animals to seduce Medusa. She remained true to her faith but that wasn't enough. Poseidon would have none of that and decided to simply Rape Medusa. Certainly it was by no fault of her own and since Poseidon was a god Athena could not take action against him nor could fault be attributed to him, that would be blasphemous.
Ultimately Medusa was the one who was punished for her broken vow of abstinence and cursed to be a snake monster of hideous nature. As you know the story Perseus was the one who slew the Gorgon later in life and as tribute to Athena the head of her former priestess was returned to her of which Athena decided to take good care of.
So yeah, Poseidon committed a great atrocity there and one of many I am sure. But that one stood out to me.

    • @kamronspencer4910
      @kamronspencer4910 11 місяців тому +3

So Poseidon did commit many atrocities but this story is entirely invented by a Roman poet Ovid who had major issues with authority and rewrote old Greek myths to make the gods look even worse as a form of political commentary/propaganda. In the original myths Medusa is born a gorgon which is why her gorgon sisters exist. Because they were all gorgons.

    • @dikayevertear3509

@@kamronspencer4910 This is true. In fact, that's a truth that spans many if not all cultures around the globe. Judaism, Christianity, Islam. Many cultures either vilify or alter the old stories slightly to make them fit into what they perceive as the correct belief. I'm not much educated in the history of the other two that I mentioned but here is what I know about Christianity. Christmas is a take on the old winter solstice in which people celebrated the passing of their loved ones into the afterlife by lighting candles and placing them on trees. The tradition was taken and made to look like the souls were going to heaven to be with god.
Christmas since then has been divided into two idea. The Christiaan faith, and the old Celtic one. With a bit a twist though, a lot of people simply celebrate it as a way to get together as a family and share in the joy of a familiar setting with the family being whole again.

@s0lid869 That too, but she didn't have a reason to ACTIVELY harm Medusa, as she was one of the most dutiful followers Athena even had. Sure, most people who heard of Medusa went to the temples to see her rather than worship Athena, which is what ticked her off. But Poseidon assaulting her (Medusa) in Athena's temple gave the perfect excuse, as Athena's disciples were supposed to maintain virginity.
