Not sure we should have watched this on boxing Day 😬 it was like a horror movie when you had to touch those wires! We were hiding behind the sofa like watching doctor who! 😂 Great job, electrics are the scariest part of the van for us but that looks so much neater and see why you did it, looks better than the factory finish! Well done to you and Cam, we have been impressed how far he's come you are clearly a good mentor 😁👍
When you have a talent for DIY like I have it isn’t right to keep it to yourself. Cam is turning out to be a half decent apprentice. Under my watchful eye of course. Thanks for watching. See you in the new year. 👍🏻
Nice job in the end Ian. Much better than how it was left by the “professionals”. 👍. Oh and Happy New year. Just catching up with a whole load of channels 👏👍🧙♂️🚐
Good vid Ian should have asked you more about the batteries. I've got to admit that I've never been s cold since I worked in Germany in minus 17 conditions (happy days) Mind you I still didn't put a coat on ( northerners) Minus 6 t shirt Below equals long sleeve top Below 10 were looking at jacket Any lower coat advised as your nearing the death zone Yes you were correct I couldn't feel me tools. Our lass says if you turn up at ours before new year I have to set the terrier on you. Look forward to future projects in 2022 Have a good new year mate
Hi Ian. As somebody with a similar "respect" for batteries, congratulations on working your way methodically and carefully through the battery box upgrade. We've all seen or heard of folks rushing through some electrical job and coming unstuck, so well done. The finished article looks superb, and leaves Elddis (and your dealer I'm afraid) looking a bit lacking in attention to detail. Enjoyed the vlog a great deal. Thank you. George and Trish - CaravanningMacs.
Thank you. I have to admit the dealer did a less than satisfactory job when it came to fitting the batteries. I had to take it back twice as it kept blowing fuses at the start. They got the wiring sorted in the end but left it very untidy. Now the batteries are boxed in neatly but the wiring is still very untidy. I will tackle that another day when I find out what all the fuses are for. 😂😂
Hallo Ian, one golden rule when disconecting batteries. Disconect the negitive first. I am not sure if in the UK all these types of van are fitted with a batt master switch. Did you turn it off first? Also what never seems to be fitted is an isolator for the solar panels. So if you are working out side the panels are still live and as far as I know they are most connected directly to the MPPT controler hence the sparks even when the batts are turned off. So I would advise an isolator between the mppt and the batery. I am no expert but I hve gone through most of what you have done one year before you. As we say in Germany learning by doing :-) . Have a happy new year Regards Peter.
Hi Peter and thank you very much for the advice. I had no idea what I was doing to be honest and was worried the whole time that I was gonna break something. If there is a master switch somewhere I have no idea where it is. I don't think there is one though as I have not heard it mentioned before. I changed the solar controller to MPPT when I first got the van and I don't think there is an isolator switch for that either. Those sparks frightened the life out of me. 🤣🤣🤣 I am gonna get someone to explain all the electrics to me soon when I get them to tidy all the wires. I want to know what every wire and every fuse does. Just in case something stops working. I want to be able to diagnose the problem and fix it without the need to rely on anyone else. I'm sure I will do a video in the future explaining what all the wires and fuses are for. Thanks again for the advice and for leaving a comment. I really appreciate it and I am learning all the time. Auf Wiedersehen
Hey Ian ... Been a long time mate, hope you well. Loving the content ( Slick told me about the channel) ....one thing to note, charging batteries give off hydrogen gas, so may be worth adding a vent of some sort ;) You have a good Christmas ... subscribed.
Hello mate. Yes mate there are some vents at the back and in the bottom. Batteries are not totally enclosed. Thanks for the tip though. A lot of people will benefit from it. Thanks for subscribing. All helps. Merry Christmas. 👍🏻
Good video, I could feel your tension and tbh I'd be cakkin myself trying that and you have pretty much quadrupled the battery power, That should run a coffee machine or two! Interesting that Tyne Valley added that particular B2B charger I asked them to replace the standard battery with a bluetooth 100AH lithium and they put in a CTEK B2B which happened to include an MPPT solar controller, which I'm guessing could be a future video.
I replaced the solar controller before I started the channel Brian. MPPT definitely the way to go. I know nothing about batteries and even less about chargers but they seem to work. Merry Christmas. 👍🏻
Another good vid Ian, Did you isolate the solar whilst you were doing the modifications? Merry Christmas and keep up the great work. Can't wait to have a CV on my drive to play with.
Hi Karl. I didn’t isolate the solar as I had no idea I had to but that’s a very good point for anyone reading the comments. I’m learning as I go mate. It all seems to work still. Thankfully. My theory was that it’s only 12v so I can’t kill myself. That’s the theory anyway. Wish I knew what all the fuses were for. I’m gonna have to ask Tyne valley when I go back. Merry Christmas. 👍🏻
hello Ian i have a question to ask you nowt to do with the video .....i do watch them all like i have a cv 20 on order and would like to know what size tv i can fit if you do not mind answering that for me.........by the way i was the lad you were talking to at the Elddis open Day
Hello Robert. I remember you from the Elddis open day. The tv that is fitted in my van is a 24 inch smart tv. It came pre fitted by the dealer as part of a dealer special media pack. Hope you get the cv20 soon. Merry Christmas. 👍🏻
ok thanks for swift reply......do not pick up van until mar/april from tyneside motor homes as you advised so just trying to get some items together before the big day
I'm building two 300ah batteries from eight individual LifePo4 cells. So my bum will be squeeking. At least I will have 600ah of lithium battery bank once I'm finished.
Good luck with that Andrew. I wouldn’t even attempt it. Plenty of off grid power there when you need it. Let me know how you get on. Merry Christmas. 👍🏻
Ian, another great video and you didn’t need to use a sock to cover anything ( still waiting for the sock over the fridge light video), thanks pete
Thanks Pete, I only need an ankle sock. Covers everything! Didn't make a video of it though. 🤣

Thanks Graham. Been catching up this week myself. 👍🏻
This is fast becoming my 'go to' channel for maintenance and DIY tutorials 👍🤣🎅 well done chap, keep it real 👍
Ha ha. Thanks mate. Any requests let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Merry Christmas. 👍🏻

Thank you Sylvia. Merry Christmas. 👍🏻
