Hi Friends, I recently visited Aspen Pittman at his recording studio. Aspen is the founder of Groove Tubes and has created TONS of really cool audio and music products! His studio is definitelyy a bit of a "mancave" with tons of fantastic gear and even a garage with an old truck and lots of neat planes, cars, and other memorabilia. I had a blast checking it out and talking with him and I really hope you enjoy the video too! Please leave lots of comments and share as well! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

Amazing interview. What an awesome man. R.I.P. Aspen Pittman

Why is he an awesome man?

    • @MarcBecker_Music
      @MarcBecker_Music 11 місяців тому

@@fostexfan160 I think the late Aspen Pittman was an awesome man because he revolutionized the music industry with his innovative approach to tube amplifiers and audio technology.
Starting his career as a musician and audio engineer, Pittman became renowned for his practice of selecting and matching tubes, a concept he implemented in his company, Groove Tubes.
His journey began in the 1970s at the Guitar Center in Los Angeles, where he developed his ideas for optimizing tubes. In the late 1970s, he founded Groove Tubes, quickly establishing a stellar reputation for producing high-quality tubes. His groundbreaking idea of considering tubes as a crucial element in sound quality brought about a revolution in the world of guitar amplifiers.
He supplied reputable amplifier manufacturers like Mesa/Boogie and collaborated with music legends such as Santana and Keith Richards. His innovations spanned from tube amplifiers and microphones to a flexible speaker emulator. His inventive spirit persisted, leading to the creation of trailblazing products like the Soul-O guitar amplifier series and a remarkable compact speaker box with stereo technology.
Being inventive, committed to what you love to do, creative and to always strive to improve and to innovate for the benefit of a community makes someone an awesome person, at last in my book.

I first learned about Aspen 11 yrs ago when a friend who worked at Guitar Center recommended a Sterling Audio mic ST 55 that was amazing for the price. He told me it was basically a Groove Tube 55 that was created by Aspen Pittman. After watching this interview, I now understand why that mic was way beyond it’s price point. Aspen was definitely knowledgeable and passionate about great sounding equipment. RIP

What an amazingly engaging guy Aspen is. I'll be honest, I'd never heard of him until I came across one of his microphones for sale and was curious about where it came from.
His knowledge, stories are fascinating and his enthusiasm clearly infectious. I love the point where he says that "well, that patent has run out, it's public domain now, but I've got one and that's all I need I suppose" and then chuckles.
It's a great interview, compulsive viewing and I may be buying some of Aspen's microphones :-)

I just got a UA Apollo 16 and they will finally go to work a bit (I've owned them since the early 90's). Thank you so much for allowing vids like these to be public. This was brilliant, enjoyed it enormously. When you look in the dictionary for 'Renaissance Man' it says, 'for example, Aspen Pittman '. He's forgotten more about sound, recording and electronics than I'll ever know. We need a part two at some point to see the rest and I expect you've only scratched the surface of the stories he could tell too.

wow, this fella certainly knows his stuff. input impedance is something that us home recording guys don't really put much thought into beyond "hi-z vs. lo-z" (or at least I don't!). this is good thought-provoking stuff. thanks for posting, Warren!

WOW! Thanks for another great one Warren!
I dealt with Aspen many years ago in the late 80s, and he was very helpful. He actually referred me to one of my dearest friends: Ken Fischer (sadly no longer with us).
I knew Aspen was knowledgable, but I had no idea to this extent. He talks with you about things I've never heard any of the "geniuses" in the business talk about.
    Thank you again!

Hi Warren. Thank you for another fabulous interview. Aspen is the real
deal and what he doesn't know about audio doesn't exist. I had a 5 watt
Tiesco amp in my teens, but what really caught my attention was that
Telecaster that you fell in love with near the end of the clip. The L
series Fenders were the very last of the Leo era models made just before
he handed over to CBS in '65. I had a Fiesta Red L series Strat made
early '65 and she was the best Strat I've ever heard. Bought her ("Fanny
Fender") for $500, toured and recorded with her ruthlessly for over 30
years and reluctantly sold her for $8,000 in a moment of weakness.
There's one on sale now for $45,000! L series were made around '63-'65
    with all the pre-CBS features..

Aspen has a great way of explaining the essence of technical concepts as they relate to music, and unlike with most simplifications the spidey sense on my electronics degree nary tingled once. Great stuff! I'm quite inspired.

I always thought it a shame that Aspen sold off to Fender but this is the first I have heard the reasons behind it with the illness. Back when I bought my a little known GT compressor called the CL1S, I contacted Aspen's Place to see if anyone there might shed some light on the comp. I was blown away to get a very detailed response from Aspen himself detailing the comp and production numbers. With what he said in the email, if you can find one, you should buy it. I have since purchased a Glory Comp and a ViPre and wow, what great pieces of gear. Nice job Warren on a great interview, looking forward to the next one in there.
