    I have been receiving a lot of questions about the fan noise of the 200d. There is indeed sound when the fan is running to keep the fixture cool. How much this sound will effect your production depends on the size of your space and how close the fixture is to your audio capture. As of right now there is no way to shut the fan off or limit its intensity, but Aputure has stated that an update will be coming soon to add fan control. This update will be done via Sidus Link, so no hardware replacements or modifications will be needed. No word on how much control we will have, but good on them for addressing this concern!

    Thank you so much for doing the softbox test! I don’t know why so many reviewers only seem to measure the light intensity either barebulb or with a reflector dish, and think that it accurately reflects the total output of the light. Diffusing the light in a controlled softbox is the best way to get an accurately comparable reading on total output.
    All of these LED lights have a focussing lens over the COB, resulting in different light spreads or levels of hotspots. Hotspots are a negative, but manufacturers are actively moving towards designing their lights with them, because then they can claim higher lux readings.

    Subbed! Best review of the amaran 200d so far, and there are quite of them out there, congrats! Only thing I miss is a readout of shooting the 200d,300dii with reflector dish through a diffusion sheet. And bouncing the 200d/300d with reflector into a white wall/bounce board. And finally the 200d/300d with the aputure spotlight.

    Great video. Man, I wish you would have measured the lights bare COB. This is the only way to be able to compare true output. The soft box test helps though. It appears that the 300dII is not even half a stop brighter as it should be. I also wish you would have filmed yourself with each light so we could see skin tone. Thanks.

    @TheMash84 2 роки тому +1

    Hey Bart,
    thanks for this video! Very thorough with the right testing! Also the video is very pleasant to watch. You've got a new subscriber.
    I think these new products from Aputure are perfect for enthusiasts.
    I was considering purchasing the following kit:
    - 200x, for situations where I need more power or a strong key light;
    - 100x, as a fill light or rim light;
    - 60x, for small rim light or when I need a portable light that can work on battery.
    As you can see I'd buy the X version for all of them to have a lot of flexibility and potentially some creative use, as it would be interesting using some fixture at 2700K while balancing on daylight, to create a split tone light. Or vice versa, balancing at 3200K and creating cooler rim lights at 6500K.
    My only concern is that maybe there's too much power difference between them.
    I'd have a 60x for sure, to have a portable and battery powered light when needed.
    I could replace the 200x with another 100x, or maybe just one 100x and two 60x.
    Having two 200x would be out of budget.
    Also the 200x would be perfect when shooting slow motion at 150/180fps to compensate for higher shutter speed, as there's plenty of headroom with 200w of LED power.
    I'd avoid being in the situation where I have to open too much the aperture or cranking up the ISO.
    As I'm working with Panasonic VLOG starting ISO would be 640, so almost 3 stops of advantage when choosing the power on the lights.
    Thanks in advance to anyone that will help me making the decision!

    All I wanna know ... How long can it be used with 100% brightness? Please let me know.
    Also... Is this 200d's fan louder than 300d ii?

      @BartJohnsonProd  3 роки тому +1

      I'm not sure I understand. When plugged into AC power you can run the light forever (in theory) at 100% brightness. And yes, the fan is louder than the 300dII

    I'm looking to get myself the Amaran 100x cause I heard the 200d/x are making lots of noises when the fan kicks in, can you confirm that ?

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  3 роки тому +1

      I haven't tried the 100 models, but I have heard they they tend to be quieter. If the 200 models get hot, the fan is gonna kick on and it can make some noise.

    Great video! First time buying a studio light. Should I get a 200d or 200x?

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! That all depends on how big your studio is, and if you need power or bicolor. In a studio environment I would assume you can control your color temperature, so the 200d would be a good choice. However, if your studio is smaller and you don't need the max output, the bicolor versatility of the 200x would be handy.

    How was that fan noise though ?

    • @BartJohnsonProd
      @BartJohnsonProd  3 роки тому

      The fan does make noise, but it is hard to say if it will affect your recording. It depends on the size of your space, the intensity of the light (100% will heat up much faster and the fan will kick on), and how close the fixture is to your audio capture.

      I’d like to, but I believe the bicolor models are delayed slightly in manufacturing. They were unable to send them out for review.

    You keep saying "price point" without realizing, perhaps, that it does NOT mean price. So there is good news, if you mean price, you can just say price. Shorter and correct.
