Can’t believe you lucky bastards got these and the fiesta. You also get a bunch of the badass Audi RS cars we don’t get.
When I travel to Europe, they bitch that they don’t get vehicles like the Ford Raptor or Super Snake Cobra mustangs.
Everyone gets shafted somehow at the whim of vehicle manufacturers.

That pulling to the left you noticed: check the rear swing arm bushings 'cos these are known to fail. Cossies have spherical bearings on these, so there should be no give. Also, check the rear calipers for binding. Likewise, a known failure point on these and can cause pulling when you get of the throttle.

Its a standard sierra rack not a cosworth one hence why they had to hack the link, the actual problem is they did no use the correct pigtail hose from the reservoir and the wrong fluid. They now know this now but deleted my advice instead.

Tech tip when you pulled the lines and letting the fluid drain, you can use orange foam ear plugs from harbor freight to stop the leak temporarily. Pinch the tips and shove them into the hole and let it expand and plug.

as someone who's changed a rack or 2 on a sierra, you should have taken the upper bolt out on the intermediate shaft further up to make it easier to remove and align on the splines again
but seeing as you cut and shut that shaft, try finding a replacement, they are almost impossible
    but good luck
edited to add tha the 3 door has different geometry to the normal sierras due to the hubs having different heights

Good catch. That will cause a push to the left in this case. Something is either bent or worn causing the pull. If it were me I would have reinstalled the old part until the new one arrived. I have a classic European car and getting parts can be a real pain. Wish the team all the best.

It's been over 20 years since I messed around with a ford sierra, I remember setting the preload with shims on the splined shaft, I thought there was some difference between the 2.9 4x4, the 2.0 4x4 and the Cosworth, should have just swapped the splined shaft, unless it's just a rack that fits, rather than the right one, harder now to get the right spares.

For Ben - Around 1990 I had my 79 Chrysler Cordova in the shop to replace the shackles for the rear leaf springs. These long, U-shaped metal brackets had rusted out. The mechanic's 5/8" Snap-on socket split when he was removing the first of 8 nuts (4 on each shackle) from the big U-shaped brackets that held the rear axle to the shackle. He didn't want to risk breaking his only other 5/8" socket because their Snap-on rep wasn't going to be in for another 4-5 days. Fortunately for me I had my zippered pouch of CRAFTSMAN tools with & he was able to remove the remaining 7 nuts with my CRAFTSMAN socket. The socket & nuts were too warm to hold with your bare hands when he finished removing the other 7 nuts, so after letting them cool down he re-installed the 8 nuts on the new shackles & I was on my way. It's too bad that Craftsman tools quality went down the tubes with the rest of Sears as those tools were the best. I have a few odds & ends tools I've found over the years on the side of the road while on my early morning bicycle rides - like smaller Snap-on combo wrenches & sockets & some SK Wayne tools like smaller sockets & a Phillip's screwdriver that is my favorite screwdriver. Do you have any MAC branded tools? If so, how is the quality of the MAC brand ?? Good luck with your Snap-on ratchets!!!

Because I had this car but called a Merkur XR4Ti and it had the 2.3L turbo motor that they used in the thunderbird turbo coupes and some mustangs. Sierra was the overall range of the model (including the ordinary versions of it) and Cosworth was the company that developed the 2-litre engine and its cylinder head and turbocharging for the top model Sierra RS Cosworth. Our Sierra XR4i and XR4x4 (preceding and later sitting below the Sierra RS Cosworth in the range) had naturally aspirated 2.8/2.9 litre V6s as their best engines. Ordinary Sierras went down to sub-2-litre naturally aspirated engines and there were Diesels and station wagons etc.

You let the Sierra get too close to Hoovie's X6. Curse by osmosis.
