Considering its age.........a complete strip down, rebuild of the entire drive train, and replace all hoses, gaskets etc is the only way to make it reliable anyway. Its not the buying thats the problem, its the fixing, half measures wont do. Its a machine thing, you want reliable, you need to do all the maintenance work. thats ominous.........a super thick head gasket, typically used for lowering compression. If they re-used the toque to yield bolts, that in itself will cause a cylinder leak.

If you own a BMW without owning a second car, then BMW does not stand for Bavarian Motor Works, it will stand for Bus Metro Walk. Having owned one, I can honestly say it was a piece of junk and a never ending money pit.
I have a BMW Series 5 E60 , only every day's car, not a single Euro spent the last 4 years, very reliable.
I just can't kill things anymore. I would have captured it and taken it outside.
Those head bolts were so loose!
Definitely some backyard shade tree crap using ebay parts
Often with head gasket failure on BMW with 6 cylinders...... When the cooling system is not maintained well the 6 cylinders against the firewall gets less cooling and finally cracks the head ...
Why not measure the thickness of the head if you don't know why it had a thicker gasket?
Lets keep this simple--NEVER NEVER buy a BMW out of warranty.....PERIOD.
Ninja is a guy that loves his job! You can see that in his eyes! Congrats and keep up the good work!
You'd think there'd be a known reference point on that head you could measure from to determine how much meat has been shaved off of it...
Came for the E36 content…stayed for the tail of the Dark Ninja. Bravo, gentlemen.
Love it. Should I buy it? No don’t! Ok, bought it! 😂 On the other hand a 4 door E36 M3 is quite cool.
There is an LS swap kit for it
Usually when it’s a thicker gasket it’s because the head has already been decked and they use the thicker gasket to keep valve clearance .
You really are in uncharted territory if you have to guess the intentions of some other mechanic . If you are going to go to this kind of trouble to fix an engine ,either it can be done right or not at all .
Then by same logic, not torque them tightly, so to allow even more clearance?
If it was me, I would tell them "Don't buy this car! If you do and it breaks, I will not fix it!" "You did not listen to me in buying it, you will not listen to me regarding any repair work!" Good luck if you DO buy it!
“It’ll snap in half like a pickle…” 🤣
Wolf Spiders are harmless unless you're a roach or cricket...
looks like the golf is going to fall of the lift !!!!!
that's what I thought as soon as i seen it in the background 😮
What you need to fix that engine is blueberry muffins and beer..
There's something about BMWs that triggers the brain to buy it no matter what. Last year I bought a used 2012 m3 as my first BMW despite knowing all the bad signs. When I took it for first dealer repair they quoted me 7,500$ 😁
You can afford the repairs. You work a actual career. Working at Walmart does not pay for BMW repairs.
Family usually does the opposite of what is advised. You've got to use that reverse psychology and be like "YOU MUST BUY THIS CAR NOW!" and then they'll pass on it.
Great video by the way Ninja!😃
Spider thing was funny but did u actually kill it? For shame. Spiders are our allies against flies and such. Apart from the poisonous ones, obviously.
Maybe take the spider outside? It has as much of a right to live as we do.
Despite never having any service at your shop, I’m 100% confident of your abilities just watching you in action. I’d make the trip to Kansas any day of the week to service my fleet. Unfortunately you don’t appear to take on Land Rovers;-(. Wish you did! Keep up the great subject matter on your channel.
Oh I’ve brought my ancient e91 (wagon manual) to Jonny several times. He’s a perfectionist and his crew really takes the lead as well. He has the best tools and genuinely loves the classic / older e90 and earlier bmws.
Why not put the spider outside, rather than killing it 😢
Considering its age.........a complete strip down, rebuild of the entire drive train, and replace all hoses, gaskets etc is the only way to make it reliable anyway.
I ahve no any clue why you killed that spider at 10:46 with hot water. What is the purpose??!
Is that a mark 3 golf? Don’t make the Humble Mechanic jealous!!!
