Great Video , The most iconic working class car of my generation. 1992 I was 14 and remember when it hit the streets. Great video Johnny and hope it goes to a good home. 700 miles wow
Really enjoyed this. Cheers, Jonny. I am completely in love and have always wanted an Escort Cosworth. Where I grew up I saw quite a few of these, as well as the later RS2000s. Our local police station had a couple of Navy RS2000s as pursuit cars. I have had a Focus RS and really miss that car, but relocating back home, from the US, I couldn't bring it with me. Maybe one day I will pick up another.
this is incredible. and this is probably a blast to drive. simple, effective, and a pure driving experience. whoever gets this, I hope they do drive it, but keep the essence of this car alive. don't change it, don't wrap, don't hot rod it, don't store it away... enjoy it.
Brings back memories of my L reg black Escort RS Cosworth lux. I only had it for just over a year, but it was an animal. Engine built by MADevelopments with a syvecs ecu. Had it on the rollers, and it put out 458 bhp. It had AP six pot brakes and rondell alloys. I spent a fortune on it and sold it for £13,000 it would be worth a fortune now.
That car is absolutely mentally good condition. What a find. I wager that the whole "unboxing" and starting process gets the punters hot for bidding on it a lot more too. £1 million plus all day long.
i am actually going to Silverstone this weekend and there's a gathering of RS200 rally cars. Over 20 of them and amongst them will be the only 'factory' RHD evolution model with 36 miles on the clock. How much is that worth?
I remember having a good look at one at our local Ford dealer when it first came out. It was up on one ramp at the rear so you could see the 4 wheel drive shafts. In white as well. As the owner then of a Mk 1 Escort 1300 Sport (replica) I was very excited but of course could never afford a Cossie. Happy days though ! (Wish I’d kept the Escort - sold it for £700 in about 1991, would be worth loads now!)
Can you imagine having the £££££££ to buy this and use as a Daily Driver. MST are now building BRAND NEW 6R4s. THANKS Jonny for bringing these Beautiful Cars out for us to see. LOVE this channel.
That is an amazing car, blew my mind watching this video. You are a lucky person Jonny. Keep all your ‘Supercars’ I’ll take this any day. Judging by previous sales figures you have to think this could be a million pound car.
This car belonged to my late father. He had this stored in his garage in Melbourne, Australia for many, many years. He ran a Historic car restoration business. He passed away in 2019 in a road accident and he always said this car was his retirement fund. He always told my siblings and I this would be for our future. I have photos of this in it’s unrestored state from our garage at home. When he died, the car was sold off by his partner and was never seen again. My Dad would look down today and be so happy to see it like this, but also heartbroken it is not with his children. We heard many stories about how it came to be, and his plans to restore it. It had distinctive jigsaw puzzle piece stickers on it in our time. To whoever buys this car, enjoy it and please treasure it, Because my Dad had a particular connection to this car and sadly it has left my family forever.
This is a genuine unicorn moment! This video has completely blown me away. I bet this makes a cool million by a collector. This just doesn’t happen. How lucky are you to have fired this baby up?! 😍
Back in 95 I got one of the last small turbo models, ex Ford management with all the extras in Mallard Green. Because it wasn't the rally version you couldn't get any fuelling mods, so BBR could only crank it up to 275bhp via ECU remap. 30 years later it is a 'classic' 😊
Fantastic as ever, Jonny! So glad to have you and your team on board for this exciting new chapter. We look forward to seeing what it does at The Classic Sale!
Seeing this took me back to 96 when you could purchase new motorsport shells from the dealer, I bought a trimmed motorsport shell for 6k !! and built my own, great content Johnny
That's why I'm no longer interested in these cars, I'm old enough to remember when you could pick these up for 15-20000 pounds and now people are suggesting that it might go for £500 000 in auction! What?! I'll have a GR yaris and a house thanks. Lovely example, lovely car but so stupidly expensive it's almost irrelevant
@@rickster9065 I understand your reasoning - however 'unobtainian' costs a lot of money. Beautiful car,I remember my dad purchased a 1988 Sierra Sapphire second hand back in the early 90s and it was just a regular Sapphire (Non RS) but for some reason had RS alloys on it,Anyway when he pulled outside the place to sort his insurance they specifically asked him is THAT an RS and he said no its just a Sapphire and they said oh thats good because if it had been an RS we would not have insured it. :D
There seem to be a few VERY interesting vehicles in the distant background, and I'm not just talking about the beautifully-kept vintage Volvo cabovers...
This is the best time capsule never seen in the european Ford models Cars. American Ford Cars is possible find one but this one is unique. This car have the emotion of the 90's new toy everything is perfect.
I was on vacation in Austria last week and in a building there they had an Escort RS Cosworth sitting, I drove past it every day. Also a white one. Looked so cool, what a great looking car. Amazing find this one!
There's truly something nostalgic about this car, my favourite classic. I was fortunate that my parent owned one when I was a child (the blue colour we're all familiar of) and had fond memories sitting in the back as the coolest kid in the estate/town. I was truly gutted when they sold it and now one of these in mint condition will fetch upwards of £100k. I'd be interested to know what this will/has fetched at auction. I certainly can't afford one lol.
I did my apprenticeship with a Ford dealer with RS specialist status during this era. I was fortunate to drive & work on (supervised of course) these things, although I probably didn't fully appreciate it at the time. I loved the Monte Carlo spec models without the wing.
Jesus Christ, what a thing! Absolutely phenomenal condition this car is in, and the whole process genuinely felt like the car had rolled off the production line and was being unwrapped brand new. Let me the say the obvious: chances like this are as rare as this car itself. And it was great to see you have the privilege and honour of unboxing it!
It really needs a set of white OZ Rally Racing alloys and a set of Rally Tyres plus a nice Rally inspired full body Wrap before the auction and it would put the price up by £10-20,000!
What an absolute gem right there like it came out of the factory. Should definitely be kept this way maybe takem to shows and keep her going forever. Be a great investment.
I supplied one like this to a NZ rally driver. As RS dealers we were only allocated one of these Motorsport models and it went abroad! For being best RS dealer I was lucky enough to have the use of a Lux model which I drove to Boreham wood and spent some time being driven around by Gwyndaf Evans in a works RS Sapphire Cosworth. Good old days!
During the mid-90s, I worked in an office block in Bristol where Ford had an office. The car park had many new road-usable Escort Cosworths, some with the whale tail and some not, making them look less assuming but still naughty!
Amazing! The SAAS car cover was a big clue. There's a few private imports down-under but it's pretty much an unknown car here, it belongs in the UK. I would say a 150k sale is at the low end.
Harrys Garage normally provides a summary of the cars for sale just prior to a Silverstone auction. What's more, the Silverstone auction can be viewed on line.
Fair play on making (and being the guy to get the scoop) on such an historically significant video ! This will be viewed by the blue oval enthusiast crew for years to come in absolute disbelief 😮
Coolest “barn find” video I’ve seen. There’s something about a white, pristine rally car before the decals are applied and the bottom gets blasted by gravel. 🤤
I love your work Jonny. This is very special. I instantly thought £500k. I’m probably wrong and there will be many comments and ideas below. In my OCD view this can’t be driven. It will just go up in value surely. What a piece of history. Who ever detailed this car did a good job 👍 😃
Definitely go to a collector, for over £500k, if it’s Group N specced, should be running no more than 300bhp, as these cars where limited after Group B monsters, but for the money this should bring, it needs the centre caps 😂 but I can only imagine they will be in a plastic bag in the glove box. 😁👍🏻
Collectors particularly value racing cars with works-team providence or low mileage road cars of limited-run models in “the right spec and colour”. This is neither of these and a “boggo” Group N spec Cossie (which Ford were literally giving away at the time as no one wanted them) is undoubtedly the least desirable spec possible. My guess is it won’t fetch more than £250k, which is still huge money for what it is but nowhere near others guesstimates…
@@lemcakes32422Yep, mileage aside it’s the least desirable Escort Cosworth I’ve ever seen. It’s Group N spec so will make a shit road car but neither does it have any rallying pedigree or providence - that all belongs to the “works” Group A cars, which were literally in a different league. Serious collectors will surely pay more for a 25,000 mile road going model in the right spec and colour…
It's sad to see this car leave Australia, but I understand that to get top dollar it had to go to England, great video thanks for bringing us along, Rj in Oz
In my opinion, i dont think this will make as much as a fully restored road going car. Dont get me wrong, its a stunning find. But, i think a road going car will be of more appeal
Interesting point. The Group N models were the least desirable in period, lots of commenters here are confusing this example with full on Group A models that were produced in small numbers and cost 10x more when new. Collectors usually look for mint road cars or racing cars with providence…
Man this is incredible to see, it really is. I have to say it's funny to hear it had been restored and yet there was still visible dirt on it in various spots. I'm sure this will set new records; wonderful, beautiful car.
This one of a kind Rally Cosworth will sell, with the right crowd bidding for it. It just needs more exposure via amazing videos like Jonnys Late Brake Show.
Fantastic vid Jonny. What a toy for someone. I am not a ford guy, more Audi. Just imagine finding an original Ur quattro rally car factory fresh never been used like this Cossy. That would put a tingle in my pringle.. Keep up the great work. 👍
My mate had a blue one. It was his pride and joy. No expense spared in care or storage. Kept in a filtered, humidity controlled cocoon in an alarmed garage with his old diesel escorts parked in the drive out front. He came home from work and the alarm was going off, he went up to the garage and noticed the doors were sitting weird. He unlocked the locks and the door fell over. The car was gone. Thieves had waited until he left for work and cut the hinge pins. An neighbour asked what they were doing and they said they were there to replace the hinges but my mate had forgotten to switch off the alarm, they said he was on his way so the neighbour left them to it.
My sisters boyfriend back in the day was a zone manager for Ford UK and looked after Rapid Fit. Subsequently he had an Imperial Blue 'Cossie with non ateo package (no whale tail) driving that as a spotty 19 yr old was the absolute dogs! Great memories...
Wow wow wow, what a totally amazing car and story. If only I could get the money to be able to buy such an iconic car and a personal favourite of mine.
Hey Johhny, I'm in Sydney, Australia and it amazes me that it was hiding down under all these years. It's good to know the ship it sailed on didn't have a calamity at sea, like some container ships that tip a few containers overboard. Thankfully this one arrived safely. It's always a big risk. I see it also sports an Aussie Ryco oil filter too lol.. Amazing car. I hope you can report back the final sale price when it goes to auction. Thanks again !
Being stored in Australia is why it is in such as new condition as if stored here, even in an expensive climate controlled atmosphere may have suffered corrosion as we have power outages and an inherently moist climate.
@@tonys1636 I agree. I do know the climate in the UK and surrounding region is quite detrimental to cars. That dank, moist sea air. I hope this car goes somewhere where it can't rust. On the flip side, in Australia, if you live on the coastal fringe, you can have corrosion and degradation issues too, but not as bad as the UK. You need to be as far away from the coast as possible and in the driest part for best conditions.
This car belonged to my late father. It was stored in his garage in a small country town called “Kinglake” just outside of Melbourne. It was burried beneath a finding nemo doona cover and random blankets. We used to climb all over it and our kids would sit in it and pretend they were driving. I have a few bad photos of it. Unfortunately when my Dad passed away we were denied access to his laptop and phone etc to retrieve any precious pictures. It is absolutely gut wrenching to watch this video as this car belongs rightfully to my siblings and I. Who would have thought it would end up like this from our humble garage at home. My Dad ranted and raved about how this car was his future.. he was 61 when he passed away and just didn’t get to restoring this as he always wished.
Johnnie I watch a lot of U.K. classic Ford related channels and was in the performance business myself right back in the 1970s RS 2000 era. Recently, certainly over this last year, I feel that there is another value wave approaching, not least because of the complete stoppage of ICE saloon production. I’m suspecting it’s going to hit the S curve shortly and there’ll be some stock piling going on. - It should be a good decade for car Auctioneers I think!!
They just don’t exist in this condition or mileage.. just wow! As a big cosworth fan.. this is just outstanding! Shame it was converted to rally from the original recaro’s etc. great video ❤
I can't get my head arounnd the fact the Rs Cosworth is more than 30 years old by now - how did that happen... Affordable then maybe, now it depends on whether you're a millionaire 50 year old or not as to whether it's affordable these days.
will be parked and rusting if it stays in uk
@@lemcakes32422 Not if it's stored in a heated garage.. I don't think someone will spend the estimated price of 160.00/200.000 pounds (i believe) and put it in a field under a tarp for 10 years..
So happy that it was you who had the call for this car Johnny. Enjoyed seeing it in the flesh!
My thought exactly.
i am actually going to Silverstone this weekend and there's a gathering of RS200 rally cars.
Love the surprise in your voice when the boot struts actually work!😆
I was impressed too 😅 haha
Can you imagine having the £££££££ to buy this and use as a Daily Driver. MST are now building BRAND NEW 6R4s. THANKS Jonny for bringing these Beautiful Cars out for us to see. LOVE this channel.
Many thanks for following and enjoying the episodes.
This will easily go for a million. It's a literal one of a kind.
No chance lol. Won’t even sell for 100k
@mikestokes3966
This hurts so bad to read :(
Never forget them cars they sounded like the engine was ripping metal apart. Beast of a car. 👌👌👌👌
This is a genuine unicorn moment! This video has completely blown me away. I bet this makes a cool million by a collector. This just doesn’t happen. How lucky are you to have fired this baby up?! 😍
This is absolutely amazing, I have lusted over a Escort Cossie for years and this has proper made me drool. What a find. Lottery win please next.
You still got it mate?
@@redman9pablo nope, traded it for a BTCC homologation Volvo T5-R olive green estate. The ultimate Qcar 😊
@@IndaloMannice, I’d have the Volvo 👌🏻👌🏻
Small turbo version was far nicer to drive as standard but nowhere near as tuneable as you say.
@@IndaloMan nice 👌🏼
This. Ideo gave me chills. So awesome to see this NOS unboxing. Well presented!
What a stunner! Thank you for showing it to us Jonny 👍👍👍
Adam Smith would love this he's looking for one. What a beautiful classic.
Brilliant episode took me back.
Chelsea boots with shorts is a brave look, add blue socks too and it’s heroic.
I recall a beautifully lime green original Australian delivered Lamborghini Miura S with provenance that was sold for AUS$35,000 in circa 1982 and now its value is north of US$1.5 million. Yes I would like one, but no I cannot aford it.
@@georgebettiol8338 unobtanium ..... the perfect description of a £500 000 escort cosworth
Don't feel too bad about the miura, in the mid 80s my uncle had the choice of a ferrari Mondial T or a ferrari 288 gto (there was only £20 000 between them 65 000 for mondial 85 000 for gto) ...... and he chose the Mondial......ouch (the gto is probably 2 million+ today and the mondial £20 000 maybe)
If I win the lottery between now and the auction, Jonny will get a call for the first drive 😂
Good luck 🎉
I would guess you will need between £160k and £180k for this one
Must admit I bought a lottery ticket a few minutes into the video.
@@superchickensoupbro, no way, easy 500k
I agree half million + £600.000
Beautiful car,I remember my dad purchased a 1988 Sierra Sapphire second hand back in the early 90s and it was just a regular Sapphire (Non RS) but for some reason had RS alloys on it,Anyway when he pulled outside the place to sort his insurance they specifically asked him is THAT an RS and he said no its just a Sapphire and they said oh thats good because if it had been an RS we would not have insured it. :D
It seems too precious too drive !!!!
What a find !!!!❤
There seem to be a few VERY interesting vehicles in the distant background, and I'm not just talking about the beautifully-kept vintage Volvo cabovers...
This is the best time capsule never seen in the european Ford models Cars.
American Ford Cars is possible find one but this one is unique.
This car have the emotion of the 90's new toy everything is perfect.
I know plenty of people believe a classic car should be driven but…….. this is a museum piece!
Cosworth imperial blur
I did my apprenticeship with a Ford dealer with RS specialist status during this era. I was fortunate to drive & work on (supervised of course) these things, although I probably didn't fully appreciate it at the time. I loved the Monte Carlo spec models without the wing.
Great video as usual, you are one lucky dude to get an invite like that.😊
We are, thank you. It was a special opportunity.
Wow... this really is like finding the Holy Grail. This will go for insane money!
1M+
Straight to a collection too
@@mads205no way. 😂
It really needs a set of white OZ Rally Racing alloys and a set of Rally Tyres plus a nice Rally inspired full body Wrap before the auction and it would put the price up by £10-20,000!
Over million easy
What an absolute gem right there like it came out of the factory. Should definitely be kept this way maybe takem to shows and keep her going forever. Be a great investment.
Amazing!! 700 miles? Crazy!
703...
Not run in then . Always run mine in to 2500.miles . Although 1000 should be about right?
I supplied one like this to a NZ rally driver. As RS dealers we were only allocated one of these Motorsport models and it went abroad! For being best RS dealer I was lucky enough to have the use of a Lux model which I drove to Boreham wood and spent some time being driven around by Gwyndaf Evans in a works RS Sapphire Cosworth. Good old days!
What a find going to put my neck on the line and say it's going to break the £200K mark,
Jonny your going have to tell us how much it made.🤩
oh wow
Jonny, your face when it fired up was like the look of a new Dad admiring his child.... Love it :)
Different level of awesomeness 👌
Stunning. I just wish I could go back in time and keep both my old Escort Cossies from the early 2000s 😢
Jonny "I don't know much about these"
Also Jonny "look, it's got the larger injectors"
☺️
During the mid-90s, I worked in an office block in Bristol where Ford had an office. The car park had many new road-usable Escort Cosworths, some with the whale tail and some not, making them look less assuming but still naughty!
I was really interested in buying that, but when I found out it didn’t start first time I changed my mind. Phew! 😂
Amazing! The SAAS car cover was a big clue. There's a few private imports down-under but it's pretty much an unknown car here, it belongs in the UK. I would say a 150k sale is at the low end.
Jonny - would be brilliant if you could follow the auction process as I am very interested to kmow the sale price and if possible who buys it.
Interesting Cosworth. I cant wait to see what it sells for
Coolest “barn find” video I’ve seen. There’s something about a white, pristine rally car before the decals are applied and the bottom gets blasted by gravel. 🤤
There will be 4 or 5 big spenders competing for this I am sure and I expect it to go for around £800k...
Wow cracking video m8, I worked at the Cosworth factory in Milton Keynes for a short time.
What A car !!!!
I remember these cars costing more to insure than to buy!
I reckon it could sell for nearer £1 million.
Yess that's the first time I've seen a brand new escort cosworth in 27 years nice one Johnny 👍
This is a piece of motoring history that belongs in a museum
why? it never went rallying for ford
The prices for these cars are getting beyond a joke
One sold recently for £160k. There has been a couple of RS500's sell for similar amounts just recently.
@@superchickensoup I know 🙄 it's just ridiculous
I can see this going for a quarter million 😮
In my opinion, i dont think this will make as much as a fully restored road going car.
Dont get me wrong, its a stunning find. But, i think a road going car will be of more appeal
Interesting point. The Group N models were the least desirable in period, lots of commenters here are confusing this example with full on Group A models that were produced in small numbers and cost 10x more when new. Collectors usually look for mint road cars or racing cars with providence…
Unbelievable find but can't decide if it just becoming a museum piece is the right thing. For me cars are supposed to be driven. Top work Johnny.
Prince Andrew paid £12m for his escort!
Not a 30 year old one though!
Man this is incredible to see, it really is.
I have to say it's funny to hear it had been restored and yet there was still visible dirt on it in various spots.
I'm sure this will set new records; wonderful, beautiful car.
Not restored. Recommissioned.
I can see this going for over a mil. What a find! I hope it does get raced by someone.
This one of a kind Rally Cosworth will sell, with the right crowd bidding for it.
It just needs more exposure via amazing videos like Jonnys Late Brake Show.
What an honour Jonny, opening the container, removing the cover, pulling it from the container, fuelling it, then starting it.
Wow, I can almost smell the newness! I like my cars to be used but I'm reluctant to say this belongs in a museum
Thanks for sharing this before it disappears in to a private collection never to be seen again. Great video!
You need to be as far away from the coast as possible and in the driest part for best conditions.
always a risk when you travel on ship yourself too
And the Supercheap car cover :)
Incredible story ! Johnny you really unearth some gems ! The Late Brake Show is the best show on UA-cam thanks mate !
What an honour. Great video. Thank you.
I can't get my head arounnd the fact the Rs Cosworth is more than 30 years old by now - how did that happen... Also - that burgundy street UFO lurking under plastic to the side of the Maserati in the background... Remember seing one popping up in my Facebook stream some years ago. If you get a chance to do a video about it, that would be glorious! 😉
Very lucky lad Jon ! Was gonna say hi at retro rides but you looked super busy . I made sure to buy 2 of every sticker to support the show though
Hi Jonny,
You have come across some cars but this...... wow, I dread to think of the price it will command.!! I think no provenance won't matter at 700 original miles, there is no other.. Great video. Cheers, Alex.
