- I've been using the Godox TT350 for my Fuji X100V for a long time but I've been thinking about making a switch now that the FlashQ X20 has arrived. One flash is more reliable, the other is smaller and lighter and more versatile (to a point.)
Which flash is the right one for you? I don't know to be honest but I can tell you what's to like and dislike about each one in this video.

I saw another one of your videos yesterday and you had me sold on the Lightpix. Woke up today thinking about it and bought the tt350 - too many people complaining online about the lightpix not shooting (not reliable).

I've had an original version of the flashq Q20 and I've found it to be just okay and wanted more power. I recently purchased the flashq trigger kit and used it on my godox tt685 flash. I found it to be very unreliable only flashing maybe 6 out of ten times. I had it packaged up and ready to send back but after I saw your video I decided to give it another try. I made sure both the trigger and receiver were charged fully and tightly connected and so far It flashes every time except when my flash goes to sleep it needs one shot to wake up which doesn't flash and then it works. I cancelled my amazon return. Thanks for posting your experience with flashq.
Curious as I'm having the same issue with my FlashQ triggers (T2 kit) was just securing the triggers more tightly the fix? I am finding it misses 1 our of every 4 to 5 shots and also seems to not fire if the transmitter and receiver are not in direct line of site.
@@ArmandSalmon Hello, I've now found that it has to be tightened just enough, if it is over tightened it won't work, if it is too tight, it won't work. I only occasionally use it because of it's Goldilocks and the three bears attitude haha. I would never use it for any serious work. the Godox Xpro/f trigger is bigger, but far more reliable.
I got my unit a month ago for my X100F--and I was experiencing some issues with the TTL exposure compensation on the flash itself. I don't mind using manual, but I love me some no-thought shooting. I also gotta agree with you, I love the portability of the X20 (and my Q20ii) with my Fuji, but I'm mainly hanging on to the X20 for a firmware update. Still keeping my TT350 as my workhorse in the kit in the meantime! Thanks for the content!

@@martinohesse I honestly haven't had any misfiring issues with it. I'd definitely go with the Q20II, over the X20. Or--I like to also use the FlashQ Trigger and Receiver along with my Godox TT350F (manually) for extra power.
My solution would be to bring two TT350s, keep one on the camera and if you need off camera flash use the one on the camera to fire the other one. The weight difference between the transmitter and the other flash is about 3 oz. And with two flashes you would have total redundancy in case one of them fails or the batteries die. Just a thought, hope you have a great vacation and keep making those great videos!

For using my TT350 (Adorama's Flashpoint clone, aka the Zoom R2 MINI) off camera, I also bought their corded TTL cable. I suppose I could have bought the cable made by my camera maker but didn't. I suppose it's a Bruce Gilden type of setup, but I just didn't want to deal with a large remote sitting on top of a small camera.
The Flashpoint FP-OCC-EOS (Canon shooter) has the cable exit at the left of the hotshoe piece --- as you'd expect, to hold the camera with your right hand and flash with your left --- however the remote hotshoe end also exists the cable to its left (instead of on the right) . It's awkward unless I want to point the flash backwards all the time or upside down. Not a big deal, and a traditional, battery-less alternative to anyone's wireless remote so long as you're OK with the flash being tethered close.
Thanks for the video. I’m interested in the light pix one as I’m 95% natural light photographer. Looking for something to use for casual street portraits too improve the natural light not to replace it, and also with a small diffuser for a light weight macro setup. I have the Nikon Zf which is already pretty small and light. I know one challenge would be if I wanted to focus stack, the cycle time is pretty low. But the size and weight and ability to grab it and take it off the camera to hold in my hand briefly is very appealing.
Booray, great and honest review. Are there extension type cords for the Godox that attach to the camera flash shoe and the Godox that can allow off flash, albeit limited, capabilities? I had one of those for my former Canon 5D4 before I totally switched to Fuji. Or do these type cords not work with mirrorless cameras?
I'm sure there must be. A company called Flash Zebra makes a bunch and I used on for my Fuji flash at one time. My experience has been that carrying and using a cord is just as big a pain as using the transmitter. :)
Godox needs to make a small transmitter similar to the size of the lightpix transmitter. Maybe they can limit the wireless function to just, say, group A, etc. It would be great to have for small cameras (Sony ZV-1, etc). I would definitely buy.

More times than I care to admit I only get one chance to take a photo and everything has to be absolutely reliable. I don't use a flash often and I really should use it more, but when I use a flash I am generally indoors in an environment where the conditions remain the same such as a room with a reflective ceiling and walls. This is where the Godox will win since I can keep the flash tilted upwards and take many successive shots with the same settings. Not all of us can afford two different flashes and if you only buy one flash you had better buy the best performance, most versatile and most reliable. It is fine to experiment on your second flash, but definitely not on the only one you own. Another important consideration is that you typically purchase the Godox separate from the remote which is an important factor for those of us that have to keep the present deficit in our monthly budgets in check.
Hi Booray, at about 4:10 in the video you talk about the Godox X1trigger and the size of it. I use the ProF (F for Fuji). It weighs a whopping 10g less. I personally feel it is a bit nicer. The screen is much larger. And only $10 more. I have used it happily since March of 2022.
I have that trigger. I do like it better but it's still so big for an X100V
@@BoorayPerry I guess that’s why they give a choice of triggers. I got the TT350 to use on my X100V but I also use it on my larger Fuji cameras and find it fits perfectly and does the job. Fantastic flash for the money.
Interesting video, thanks for the testing-effort! I own the Lightpix trigger/receiver and use it on my Ricoh. The thing with not firing might be related to the shutter-speed you picked. Up to 1/1250 it worked flawlessly (in my case in M-mode), at faster speeds there seems to be some inconsistency with syncing, resulting in dark or only partially lit frames. Maybe worth a try in your case?
If that's the case then it disqualifies this flash as far as I am concerned. One of the best qualities of the X100V is the leaf shutter which allows syncing at higher speeds. I wouldn't use a flash which prevented that.
@@BoorayPerry I can understand. But it's only a suggestion the issue might be trigger/receiver-related, not a final diagnosis. I have not tested with your camera&flash-combo. I have only the trigger-receiver from Lightpix, which I really like for their tiny size. I have only tested the triggers with a manual Godox-flash and an older Leica-flash (which has a pretty decent A-mode, compensating for the lack of TTL in my user case) On the Ricoh it's less of a problem if the limit is indeed 1/1000 or 1/1250 as it has a built-in ND-filter and the lens is 1 stop slower than the X100-series. If I use the TT350 or AD200Pro, I use the X2-trigger, but that looks ridiculouosly big on a GR :)

This is great in-depth on both these flashes which have been on my radar for accompanying my x100v.
Question: I have the lightpix labs FlashQ triggers (T2-Kit). Do you know if they will work on the Godox TT350 or the Godox Lux Jr ? (no ttl of course)
I have never known a flash that would work with a trigger from some other company.
@@BoorayPerry Sorry I wasn't more clear, the LightPix Labs kit comes with 2x (1x trigger & 1x receiver) unlike the X20 which I think is just a single trigger and the receiver is internal to the flash?

Keep the FlashQ transmitter in the camera's hot shoe. Get a FlashQ T2 receiver and put it on the Godox X2T-F. Keep it nearby, but off camera. Then you can remotely control one or several Godox flashes (manual mode only, of course). You can still hold the FlashQ X20 and use it as a little fill flash.
But what if it's the transmitter the problem? and he want to use TTL
It seems like the camera wasn't asking for additional light. What if the test was done in manual mode were the exposure would be under exposed unless the flash added light?
It was done it manual mode and the subject was underexposed.
Take on your vacation, besides the Fuji, a small DSLR like a Nikon D3400, its pop up flash works wonders during the day !!!.....I really enjoy your videos !!!! Awesome !!! Right on the dot !!! I am an amateur, not a pro like you are, but my way of thinking is pretty much the way yours is, but, since I am photography crazy I carry with me every single day, a Nikon DSLR, either a D3100, or a D5600 and hopefully in the near future a D7500 instead of the others, flash wise, I carry a small Nikon SB 400 flash or the SB 500 if I figure that I will need pivoting, but that's not all, also carry with me every day a Fuji X100 (Fuji X100T on the way). Question is: I love the way the X100 balances the ambient light and the flash output. I have seen that DSLR (at least my Nikons do that) they balance pretty well the light during daytime, but not as well at night, not as well as the little Fuji does, the background is always much darker when I use TTL on my Nikons, and Fuji's photos show a pretty much well lighted background. One specific question for you, does the Godox TT350 work well when using TTL on a Fuji X100 ??? as well as its built in flash ???? If so, I will get the Godox, picture quality is what I love. Maybe you can help me with this question. Thanks and keep posting your excellent videos (so well explained).
OMG you carry so many cameras! If you are seeing a difference between the background light level it isn't the flash, it's the camera settings. I shoot in manual when I use a flash so that i can control the ambient light.
does the FlashQ X20 sync good to all the shutter speeds from the x100v?
Not all. Just like any other flash, you shouldn't go above 2000
I use a TT350S with a Sony ZV-1. Realize that the ZV-1 has a built-in 2.4 GHz radio which it uses for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. If special firmware was available, the 2.4 GHz in the ZV-1 could talk directly to the 2.4 GHz in the TT350, so you wouldn't need a separate transmitter on the ZV-1. Unfortunately that firmare will probably never exist.
Hi Booray, I just watched this video again. You talked about a pre-flash with the X100V. Turn off Red Eye Removal and there will be no pre-flash.
What about using a flashq transmitter/receiver set with the godox, to get rid of some bulk? Not sure whether it would do ttl though..🤔
I think you lose TTL, and in my experience with the FlashQ triggers, it is the Triggers that may be the cause of the unreliability.

I have a Sony system, a diminutive a6500 (APSC) which I use for travel because it is so compact. it has a with tiny built-in flash that is useful for fill light of portraits or small groups against a bright sky or scene with a wide or normal lens. I also have a FF A7c, a marvel of a body that I use for more serious stuff (astro, macro, birds, etc.) like you, I have Godox TT350 + X1 trigger, but I am still learning how to bounce it and use manual power. I may be doing something wrong, because I feel the TTL is useful from 3 meters and beyond, but it's not accurate for closer shots, where only Manual power will give good results. Is this because in general, 3rd party flashes aren't as reliable as original Sony flashes in TTL mode? Or all flashes struggle with TTL on close-ups? thanks to your review I just ordered an X20 (sorry Amazon is out of stock) which I plan on using for travel - also because it is so compact. I will test mine with the TTL +1 stop issue that you reported. If they announce a firmware update, please let us know. thanks again!
My experience has been the opposite. Third party flashes often figure out TTL faster than name brand. I shoot close-up ring shots with my Godox flashes on TTL al the time. Maybe try changing your metering mode?
@@BoorayPerry You have a very valid point. it's not the brand, it's the selected metering mode. I generally use Multi-metering, but I will try using different ones and test it.
Does LightPix not recharge the transceiver while they're connected? Was really hoping for that... also a Nikon version of that model...
I don't think it does. You have to plug it in
I had the original Lightpix Trigger and Receiver kit (not the flash) and used it on various flash units. It was totally unreliable on all of them. Which was a real shame, the kit was tiny and when it did work it was great (the trigger looks like the X20 base and the receiver was the same size).
I had the same experience but with the FlashQ T2 kit, not sure if those are the newer version. I have tested on my x100v with Meike MK320, Yongnuo 560 and a cheap Newwer. I am finding that it is inconsistent missing somewhere around 1 out of every 4 or 5 shots.
What about recycle time? I'm curious about the difference in recycle time between the gidix and the q flash

Ahhh, the adventurers of "I really... really want to like this for x/y/z....BUT". I own and use a tt350, but battery life, and cycle time in some of the super dark event halls I have encountered has made me reconsider. I ran my last three events with a AD200 in one hand and a camera in the other, but I finally caved and bought a flash with a rechargeable battery pack. I did consider the FlashQ, but it just doesn't fit the bill for me and the way I like to work while pretending I'm not a landscape photographer.
Would you say the AD200 is worth it? I infrequently shoot portraiture and events but also do street and will be carrying a griii everywhere
@@cine-ish Depending on your use case, but I cannot overstate how valuable a bare bulb flash can be. The AD200 comes with the bare bulb head, you can use it with an umbrella, or various AD200 compatible modifiers. You can look those up on UA-cam if Booray doesn't have an example of them.

Can you use the built in flash to trigger the flash? So you dont need a transmitter?
I don't know if it has an optical trigger but even if it does I have never found them to be reliable.
Gotta ask - for the off camera flash with the ship in the background, are you also carrying a light stand and a tripod? If you're improving the light stand somehow and just using the lil UltraPod to hold the camera, I can see sticking with the smaller flash/ttl controller.. but if you're dragging out a light stand to make that picture, you might as well travel with the Godox and its more reliable TTL controller.

@@BoorayPerry Strobist (David Hobby) calls those VALs - Voice Activated Lightstands. In that case I'm totally onboard with keeping the weight down for vacation and scaling up for the photo conference
Are you sure that the flash is not firing, rather that just firing at the wrong time? I just got it off Amazon to test it out and I’ve been disappointed at the amount of times it has done this, just in my short time testing

Interesting review. Seems like a quality control problem. BTW not sure how many take pics of ceramic squirrels. Was hoping you would show real world photos... streetphotography examples or portraits etc using the off camera flashes...
Before I do the real world stuff I wanted to do something that was completely controlled where I was using both flashes from the same distance with the same settings etc just so I could check to make sure that they were going to work consistently. I'm currently on vacation and I am using the FlashQ and when I pulled it out yesterday for the first time I had the same problem where I had to give it a plus one in order to get enough light on my subjects
@@BoorayPerry As a photojournalist in NYC using the Godox when needed with my x100v I was curious to see your take as a pro using the Q. Many other PJs use the Fuji ... almost all without flash. 👍
With that guide number, you're probably going to get a full flash if you're using bounce, so the difference in charge time is 1.8 seconds GODOX is faster. I think this is also important.
If you want to use GODOX, you can stack two strobes and a trigger on top of the camera and remove the top strobe when you want to use the strobe wirelessly. I wouldn't like to do this, though, because it is too heavy.
It is an attractive strobe, but I haven't picked it up yet because of its slow charging time.
That's an interesting idea. I wouldn't do it for the same reason but I love the idea.
The flash q works on camera with the transmitter turned off.
For travel, and jpg's, go even lighter ..... just make do with the built-in flash. By the way, I do occasionally use my Godox TT350 and remote controller with my 100V.
I find myself doing that more often... as much as the pro in me hates it. :)
Just got the X2TF and it sorta works with my X100V, but not sure if my setup is wrong. With the TT350 on the hot shoe directly, everything works as I expect. But with the remote, there is no manual mode. And the TTL does not appear to respond to the camera TTL setting, the +/- must be set directly on the X2TF. Anyone know if that's just how it works, or have I mis-configured something?
I did find that if the leaf-shutter setting is used on the remote, nothing works. Had to turn that back off to get as described above. X2TF firmware is updated to 1.4.
I don't have any experience with that flash, sorry. :)

I thought that's what you were using to remote your TT350, I actually bought it from your link, but realize now you're showing the older X1TF. Does that interface with the camera controls in TTL mode? My X2TF+TT350+X100V combo works, but the manual mode isn't available and the remote doesn't appear to respond to the in-camera flash settings, I can only make the TTL +/- adjustments on the remote. Not a big deal, and possibly easier in practice, but I'm afraid what I'm seeing may indicate I've set things up wrong. Definitely possible that the older remote works better, but it isn't available.

To be honest, I don't recall if I have ever tried to use the in-camera controls to change the off camera flash. It may be that they don't work in that config.

Also, there is no substitute for reliability.
Photography is the art of capturing light. Lenses collect and focus light, cameras measure it. That's a very simplistic, yet satisfactory understanding of photography which works fine for outdoor shooting. However, there is about 500x as much light outdoors compared with indoors. Pros know this, so they know how to use flash, particularly for indoors. But hobbiests and amateurs dont seem to grasp this. They will spend 4 grand on the latest camera for better high iso performance and Ibis for better low light shooting, yet steer clear away from flashes. Flashes are vital for indoor / lowlight shots if you want your shots to look good. Unless you are going for a particular low key style, or are using a tripod.
Everyone who owns a camera with a passing interest in photography should own at least a flash they can bounce and learn how it works. For 200 dollars, or even less now, you can dramatically improve your shots way more than the thousands people spent on cameras and lenses with something that fits in your pocket. I appreciate youtube channels which promote flash.
You are 100% correct my friend. I rarely use an added flash with my X100V simply because I use one all the time when working. But I will certainly pull it out and start bouncing if I am in a situation where I want good coverage and there is poor light.
very true, but i know x100 series users that don't even use the built in flash let alone a dedicated one!!! I'm like why even bother with a leaf shutter camera when you could have just got an X-E series instead ?

I'm late to this party, but if you happen to see this comment Booray, are you aware of any reliability improvements to the LightPix flashes? They seem really nice, but the reliability issues seem frustrating, especially compared to the Godox system for the same price.
I haven't heard anything about them but to be honest I was so disappointed in the reliability that I haven't really paid much attention to them since.

Booray you're overthinking it. Throw the damn QX20 in the trash. As a long time pro I have no patience with cheapo products that you can't depend on. I use Godox lights too, including the TT350 but I use the Godox XPro-C (Canon shooter) and it's not as bulky as the remote you use. Plus the TT-350 flash pivots and the cheap one doesn't. Huge game changer for me. And actually you could toss the water bottle and grab a bottle of water now and then--considering water weighs in at 8.33 lbs per gallon you're packing a lot of water weight in your bag. Plus if it ever leaks you'll ruin your camera and anything else electronic in your bag. Hope you have a great vacation.

You can connect the flash to the wire that goes on a hot shoe and point the flash wherever you want. Problem solved.

You said you turned 60 and an experienced photographer. This small thing you have missed that the godox trigger made for both single and multiple flash photography. Even you can attach another make trigger over x1. Here you comparing two different catagory . You should find topics that informative.
