    North Dakota is beautiful before the crops are all harvested, then it turns brown and cold! I was out there in the late eighties and I was amazed at all the old trucks I wanted to bring them all home. I did bring home a 64 Fairlane tho.

    There was an actual episode of the Dukes of Hazzard that involved the boys bringing a Richard Petty race car home for parts for the General. They were towing it behind the General, which was a good thing as Rosco was chasing them.

    I did something like that once, the last time I went to South Carolina to visit a friend I left about 7 am, dropped in at Williams Grove near Harrisburg about dusk for the night before the National Open, watched the races, then went on the last four, five hours home to New York. No trailer though.
    And I couldn't sleep in the back despite it being a conversion van because I took a bunch of stuff with me to do a swap meet while I was down there.

    The last cross-country road trip i went on was around 2003 when my mom and I drove to Patterson, CA to visit some of her family. I was around 14-15, had my permit but she refused to let me drive even once... I just wanted some bragging rights to tell my buddies I actually got to drive on Route 66 lol. I was fascinated with anything and everything automotive history related. I educated myself on things from our automotive past mainly from books I had gotten second-hand and some I had bought with money I made from cutting yards or birthday money.
    But I digress lol..
    On the trip, we weren't driving anything cool, sadly, and it damn sure wasn't comfortable lol.. we took her '98 Mirage. I remember the temp gauge would start to climb every now and then and we'd have to pull over and let it cool down some. That's kind of a difficult thing for ANYTHING to do in the middle of Death Valley in the summer lol, much less an overheating engine haha.
    The story could go on and on but ever since then, I wanted to take another road trip out to Cali. I planned out that the next time I/we go - I would drive something a hell of a lot cooler than a commuter Mitsubishi lol.
    I thought it would be badass to take a late 60s-early 70s wagon lol. Plenty of room and I was going to make sure there was plenty of power and plenty of tread on the tires so I could do smoky burnouts across each state line I crossed 😆 I had a '69 AMX at the time and had it for many years after that.. but it just didn't seem fit for road trip duty lol, given the lack of rear seats. But man I wish I had taken it just once.
    It's been almost 20 years since I've made those starry-eyed plans, and i haven't yet made them come to fruition. I'd love to make it happen this coming year but I don't have a cool muscle car or cruiser anymore, dammit lol. I got into trucks and that's all i have now, even though I'm always looking for a killer deal on a 4 door ride of any type lol. Running or not.
    We let life get in the way and let other things control our decision making and push our dreams aside, and sometimes they fall off the ledge never to return again. It's a shame.
    But Chris, I envy the hell outta you for doing what you love and having fun doing it! And I always look forward to seeing all your adventures out there on the road driving your junk. That's what they're made for! We appreciate your hard work to make these happen. Keep on diggin, buddy!

  • @mrromantimothy
    @mrromantimothy 3 роки тому +6

    I'm an electrician for everything homes cars buildings you had what's called a brownout in higher voltage, you had a 12 volt Brown out
    that slippery chrome pulley made your alternator output drop below the load of your cards ignition and that fan , and since ohm's law is E =IxR as your amperage dropped your voltage Rose and that burned your regulator open, Edison type brownout is when in the summer people use too many air conditioners and the load goes beyond the output of the generators in amperage and the same result happens voltage spikes. I had someone give me a jump while I sitting in my car and I saw they had cables backwards I said no but it was too late and that made my alternator put out 20 volts instantly popped all my light bulbs since I saw smoke pouring out from under my dash I took off the speedometer bezel and I was able to find a loose ground bolt the main one that had been loose from the factory nobody tightened it down, and that's why my car would always run funny and that kind of stuff annoys me I got to find out what it is. Or I'm just never comfortable driving that car

    Chris -I honestly don't understand the popularity of the WILWOOD Draglite brakes for the mopar B-Bodies - I had a set and also hated them - THEY SUCK - I can only assume that it is because they are actually NOT INTENDED FOR STREET USE. I think the factory discs were WAY better - eventually went with the late model mustang brackets from our buddy Vlad and haven't looked back since. Really enjoy watching you driving your cars - You have convinced me to do some type of trailer hitch setup on my '70 Roadrunner.

    I WONDERED why you were putting on those thin Wilwood disks when they are only good for drag racing. Good in terms of light weight, not stopping power. Factory disks or even the stock drums would have been better. Why do you need more caster? Is the nose lifting up when the trailer is loaded?
    I notice the absence of weight distributing bars or sway controls on the hitch.
