  • Everyone and their mother are doing these right now, so I decided to make an ASMR version and tried to follow a tutorial by the one and only Bob Ross. He's not only super good at painting, but also super relaxing. Hope I did him justice in both regards. :) So how did I do? 😅😂

      It turned out great. But i saw you asked why they looked so different towards the end and its because bob ross style of painting uses liquid white as the base paint and its still wet. Which makes it easier to blend the colors and all that art stuff lol

    I know I've spread this around the comments enough to replies, but I thought it was a good tip for those maybe wanting to paint after this. Bob Ross uses oil paint, and before he paints, he puts on liquid white. Which is why his paints blend so easily (and technically, you can do this without liquid white because oil just blends nicely in general). However, oils paints are expensive!
    She was using acrylic paints, which dry WAY quicker than oils. Oils can take days, weeks, and even months. Acrylics, as you can see from the video, dried within seconds of her putting it on the canvas. And her paints didn't blend well because - well - with acrylics you're supposed to work quickly to blend the colors. Liquid white wouldn't have the same affect on acrylic paints as it does oil paints, so it wouldn't have worked. Some people say adding water to acrylics will help, but that's not really a good technique. If you're doing that, you might as well just use watercolors or gouache, lol. Plus, acrylic can sometimes make a really gross texture when added to water and put on canvas.
    Just giving some info because I love painting or anything art related, and Bob Ross is amazing. And for not really knowing what she was doing - fastASMR did a good job!

      BoomDipity water to blend acrylic is definitely a good technique. Many pros do it, including myself

    • @BoomDipity
      @BoomDipity 6 років тому +4

      Baylee Bailey And I was taught never to do it with certain canvas paper as it would ruin the paper. Besides, to me, if you're going to do that, you might as well try watercolors instead. At least one would get the feel for watercolors quicker lol.

    • @bayleebailey
      @bayleebailey 6 років тому +9

      BoomDipity still inaccurate. I'm a scenic artist. Mixing with water is common practice, practical and works. I've never experienced the "weird texture" you explain. It's only been 15 years of professional painting, thougg

    • @ravenc703
      @ravenc703 6 років тому +17

      Baylee Bailey youre 100% right.. i'm sure you know the amount of water/paint is important, and that the canvas material is VERY important.
      In all seriousness, you seem quite knowledgeable, but no need to be passive aggressive :)

      Adding water to acrylics is a good technique. Idk where you’ve studied painting but every one of my teachers have told me that water and acrylics are good togeter and I’ve always agreed.

    PRO TIP: Bob Ross first pre-paints the whole canvas with liquid white to get all the smooth blending, was why you thought your paint looked dry, was because his canvas was already wet with paint and yours was not

    • @BoomDipity
      @BoomDipity 6 років тому +14

      She was using acrylic paints. Bob Ross uses oil paints. Liquid white wouldn't have the same affect. Her paint looked dry because acrylics dry faster than oils. She would have had to work faster to blend the acrylics better.

    • @TayMont217
      @TayMont217 6 років тому +8

      A cheaper method is wetting the canvas with water. The acrylic should at least work for her like that.

      Liquid white works for him because he uses oil paints. She was using acrylic paints, and liquid white would haven't the same affect as it does for Bob Ross. Diluting the acrylics with water isn't a good idea, either. To blend acrylics, you have to work faster - they dry really quickly.

    • @teehundeart

      lujan909 it's a translucent white coat of paint. That way the colours don't go on the dry canvas and can easily be blended and moved around. Bob Ross usually says that at the beginning of every episode

      The cheaper method would be coating it with water.

    Please do other episode of this. brush sound is sooo tingely.
    (PS: I started to listening to this while painting a minis, felt weird to hear big brush noise while using a really small one^^ but mister fox is looking pretty great so it didn't hurt :) ).

    I heard you say you used the wrong color, but it all looks the same to me. Being colorblind has its perks. Good job on the sounds I love brush sounds. And a suggestion could you maybe do a writing video?

    Oh yeah! I was watching his videos before ASMR videos existed to get the same effect I get from your videos! I am old enough to have seen his tv shows when they were aired....
