Too far without enough dealer badges to man the table. Glad they cracked down on scalping tables. Board should (doesn't) make sure people with fake autographs, trimmers, etc. get kicked out. With subletting can't control it. There is plenty of ultra-modern at the National - vintage dealers are the reason I go to the show and have since the 90s. The variety at the National is an asset - there has to be somewhere that vintage set collectors can find cards in varying condition to fill their sets. The National is the best place in the world for that. Slamming old school dealers who have figured out how to make a living through the boom or busts is really a bad take.
Not allowing 3 or 4 people behind a table at a 3-5 day show is ridiculous. It's tough for 2 people at one table to be able eat, bathroom break, walk the show floor for fun, manage selling and also watch out for shoplifters.
I get cracking down on dealers that sell off their whole table or half of their extra tables if they have a 4 or 5 table allotment, but splitting a couple of tables between 3 people should be allowed in my opinion. It makes the show more enjoyable/bearable for all the dealers involved.
I can't wait to hear about how certain trade nights or secondary shows generate more traffic than the National.
One thing about the Fanatics Fest approach to vetting the prospective dealers is that if you have a small group of people deciding what qualifies as a "desirable" dealer, then eventually (and perhaps immediately) all the booths will look the same, with the same merch. This is like what happened in the 90s when two guys programmed hundreds of radio stations across the US and pretty soon all new music sounded the same as producers tried to create the sound these two guys liked.
It’s tough for those who were planning to be there (setup) because it’s only a month away. Seems like a very late notice/decision. It will definitely hold back on inventory. Most likely limiting the types of cards. Like you were saying: non sports, probably more vintage than modern. However I would guess there will be empty tables compared to the previous National. I think the trade-nights are a good idea for any multi-day show.
The old boys club playing checkers, this old head way of thinking needs to change, national might be nothing after fanatics takes over and makes there events way better
Its been a long, long time since I managed trade shows but its what you wanted to pay and when you committed.

My issue is that they seemingly waited so long to enforce this. A guy at a local show had this happen to him and he had already booked a hotel, airfare, etc. I assume this was the case for just about everyone that lost their spot.
i think theres a huge difference between the idiots flipping their tables for profit with no intention of ever setting up and others who are just subletting a showcase or part of their table in order to just have help for a multi-day show. there should be a distinction made for sure. it seems like theyve gone way too far with the crackdown.
Lets be serious. How many years till Fanatics takes over/buys/puts out of business all the big shows through money, contracts, fear, and product control.

I get them not wanting 10 different dealers all with a showcase or two in the same space, and I get them not wanting the space straight up sold and the 'owner' never setting up. But yeah it seems they've gone the complete opposite direction.
I do know that the soccer hobby has had their own show planned for the same week in Cleveland for quite awhile. This is probably going to drive even more dealers and foot traffic there bc I bet most of the soccer dealers were paying for someone else's table space.
They will have more than 2 people behind a table, that will be for sure.
Would not be surprised if someone on The National's Board of Directors or on the promotions team is already in the pocket of Fanatics and is sinking this ship from the inside and they will eventually work for Fanatics. This is what they did with Panini, as the employees that left for Fanatics tried to sink Panini and then had to break into the offices and wipe out the computers(Fanatics most likely still has someone on the inside at Panini getting checks from Fanatics). Fanatics wishes it was the mob but it's more like the Taliban, if there is ever a real court case and phone records are seized it's gonna be really dirty -no nonsense! Media/influencers will talk about how bad The National is because they are in pocket of Fanatics(or want to be) and talk about how great Fanatics Fest is but I'm gonna make a wild prediction that they both suck this year.

Get there early. Parking the bug will be near impossible within 3 blocks of the Center
Also trade nights were always better than the show itself if you wanna buy sell and trade

I had always heard the national table cost was around $1000-1200.
