In the process of replacing the starter on my 2012 acadia, i agree with many people here definitely not the easiest starter to get to and remove. Currently i will have to remove the knock sensor because of lack of space to get the starter out, it think it would have been helpful to say or suggest to either unclip or mention the bolt to remove it, i dont have enough space to wiggle it out, twist this turn that way, but this was the best video ive seen on removing the starter.

    • @RBTheMechanic

Yeah that knock sensor was issue

Your telling me, I don't which was worse trying to unclip the sensor or trying to find the bolt hidden by the starter cables lol, but I wish I would have sprayed the bottom two bolts on the cat cuz both of them broke off clean

I love the “first of all good luck” lol. I have a 2012 Acadia and let me say…I hate this car. Once it hit 7 years old we have had nothing but problems. Alternator had to be changed 3 times already, just paid $6,000 for a new transmission, $3,000 worth of work on the air conditioner, and now pretty sure the starter is going out (as why I found this video) and a ton of other things are not working on it and needs to be fixed. So we will definitely be watching this video if it is the starter.
Also…thanks for making this video. Definitely helping us save money by doing it ourselves vs bringing it to the shop. Thanks!

Best how-to video of all time! You told exactly what size sockets were needed for everything, how many nuts/bolts needed to be removed with each step, and how to get to each of them. You are a God-send! Thank you!!!
Note- The only difficult part of this job is getting the starter out after removing the bolts. However, removing the wire connector that goes to the knock sensor, directly behind the starter, gives you the room you need to pull the starter out without a problem. Figuring that out took me more time than anything else.

    This is very easy job.
Please let me add some tips when ever you replace the starter one this vehicle.
Always spray WD 40 or a break fluids on the catalytic converter (that will make it easier to come off).
    Remove the knock sensor
It's too close to the starter and there is a good chance that you will break knock sensor connector while trying to remove the starter.
Remove the big plate mounted underneath
    (It's a 4 15mm long bolts).
That will give you about 2 inches extra room so you can remove the catalytic converter easier )
And finally pump you do not know what it is. It's a brake booster auxiliary pump

The video was helpful, but anyone saying this is an easy job is not being honest. Most starters are fairly easy, this is the first time I have had to remove a cat. convertor to replace a starter. I did a bad one on a BMW once but normally they are pretty simple. With age and in the rust belt can makes things worse and exhaust nuts would not have came apart without heat - studs would have broke. It was not a terrible job but not an easy one either. Not your average DIY job. I could see a novice struggling quite a while to do it.

I don’t know why but there are 15 videos saying to do it this way and only 1 (the TRQ video) shows how to actually take it out from the bottom by removing the front motor mount and motor mount bracket you - don’t have to mess with the catalytic converter or exhaust manifold - 1000% easier better with no chance of breaking bolts….. please don’t do it this way!
