Hahaha. I took out my frustration with my Snap On dealer instead. He treats me good so I knew I’d have no problem swapping it. As for staying calm…I try to seem “calm and collected” for these videos but you can be sure some of these jobs drive me to some foul language off camera. Lol.

Dang. Just started watching what looks like an excellent video, BUT my radio does not work and it's like $1500 just to fix the radio which I am not going to do. Is there another way to detract the electronic emergency brake?? I know under the center console is a thingy that you pull up on so vehicle can be towed. I WONDER if that will bypass or disengage the emergency brake so I can do the work myself. Even if I bring it to the shop, I am thinking they KNOW a way to make it work without replacing the darn stock radio @ $1500 or more due to inflation! lol Any help is appreciated.
There are some people that unplug that motor on the caliper and stick a 9V battery on it to retract it. I’ve never done that and I would be VERY careful. Theoretically, putting the 9V one way on the wires will push it out. Swap the wires and it SHOULD go in. This is not how I would do it, but I’ve read about this method before.

It’s a Lisle 24300 Brake Pad Spreader. They’re available several places online. There are also different versions from Lisle that allow you to do dual piston and quad piston calipers too. Super handy.
Do u have to put the car in brake mode if u just changing the pads do u need to get the top whole part of the caliper off? Because my car is not letting me go into brake mode its saying service not saved in settings
@@LilDuece54 The electric parking brake system must be put into service mode so you can compress the caliper to make room for new pads. No good way around this.

As long as you’ve retracted the electric parking brake beforehand, yes. If you don’t have the electric parking brake then no. You’d have to use a tool that “twists” the piston back in.
I have the same one on my car. So after doing research I found out that I have to turn it to push it back. So I was confused cause you just pushed yours.
Manuel Flores I put the electric parking brake in service mode, like the video says, then I was able to push it in easily. If you don’t have the electric parking brake then you’ll have to turn it in.

Hi I just changed the rear brakes on my 2016 but I can't get the park brake out of service mode. I've pressed the brake and activated the park brake switch but the little light just blinks for about 30 seconds. Any tips?
From what I’ve read the cars with the electric parking brake are push in, the ones without the electric brake are spin-in. This one has electric brake, and I was able to push the piston in after deactivating the electric brake.
If you’re talking about grinding the brake pad ears, it might not be necessary if your new pads fit well. Some of the pads I buy aren’t perfectly manufactured and need minor trimming. You can also use a file to trim the pads a little bit. What you’re doing with that part is making sure that the pads are not binding (getting stuck) in their mounts. They need to be snug but also move freely so they don’t get stuck “on” the rotor and burn up the pads too quickly.
I’m not sure exactly but probably around 90k miles I’m guessing. Not sure if they were original parts or not. I’d assume they’d been replaced once before that but maybe not.
@@JoesCarSmartsNY The T55 torx bolts on my 2015 Chrysler 200 were very shallow which made it so the Torx socket didn't go in very far. This made it very difficult to loosen them because the socket would wobble when pulling on the wrench. This must be a common problem. You never had problems with that?
@@JoesCarSmartsNY No that's not it. I used a tiny screwdriver to see if it was stuff inside, but it wasn't. And I did try to tap it deeper after. The ones on my car are very shallow. Cant' believe just mine are like that.
If you have to shave these, you baught the wrong ones. There are FOUR different pad types for the same year car. Some are smaller than others for the v8 they are bigger, different for the turbo v6 and the regular v6, depending on the month the car was built the rotor size will be different causing different sizes and the motor changes half way through the year for all V6s. Chrysler is a damn nightmare.
@@orfeo-7_ I bought the right pads, but some parts suppliers have manufacturing dies that aren’t quite right. When I need to, I’m only shaving off less than 1mm of paint or slag to keep them from binding in the caliper.
I don’t remember now which size rotors this took. For some reason it’s tricky to determine ahead of time. I would check 200forums.com for hints on that. There are criteria but I can’t remember them right now.

What rotors and brakes you use to have very little or no break dust? I have the same vehicle finally about to change them, Thanks to your video
I like Power Stop. Lowest brake dust will be by using a ceramic brake pad.

Yes. Turn the car off. No reason to leave it on. Service mode stays that way until you pull the parking brake switch when you’re done.

My rear rotors don't have that 5 mill hex screw. But looks like one of the holes have been filled and or welded
Huh. That’s an odd one. Maybe the screw head is filled with debris? Maybe try a wire brush or a metal pick tool to try and clean it out?

Another option is to send the radio to United Radio in Syracuse NY for repair.

This works for a 2017 Chrysler 200 as well correct?
Should be the same. One way to check is to see if the 2015 and 2017 use the same pads and rotors part numbers.

The T55 bolts that hold the mounting bracket on mine are stripped. Any suggestions on how to get them out?
Those are the E-Torx right? Some people have been able to use a regular socket to turn those out as well. I think MAYBE a 15mm?

Hi Joe, On the right rear brakes can you simply push the piston back in same as the left one?
As long as you’ve retracted the electric parking brake beforehand, yes. If you don’t have the electric parking brake then no. You’d have to use a tool that “twists” the piston back in.

Put the old pads back on. Put the caliper back on and start again.
Or turn the key on in the car and put it in service mode.

I’d turn the ignition off. Give it a few mins and try again.

Of course it's a T55. Why wouldn't it be. Hex bolts have failed huminity time and again but thank the lord for torx!
Was the car started or just turned on for power?
If you’re asking about when I activated the brake service mode, it just needs to be turned to “Ignition” for power. No need to start the engine.

Could you put the pads into the caliper bracket first? Prior to putting the two torque bolts back in?
You should be able to, but sometimes it’s tricky to keep the pads lined up properly when you install that bracket. That’s why I do the bracket first.

Awesome video ! For the Torx bolts, did you use new bolts or use the same ones? If you did what size did you use?
Some people recommend that you don’t reuse the bolts. I always reuse them anyway and have experienced no ill effects in my experience.

@@hartfordsignpost589 Maybe you needed to tap the socket in a little deeper. Sometimes grime can fill up those bolt heads. It can be tricky.

Worst brake design ever. *No reason to use T-55 torx screws.* Just use a metric bolt like the rest of the world. 😠
If you hate the Torx I suggest you don’t look at the bolts that hold in your front seats! Hahaha. They’re something totally different.
