At last! A video focusing on the recording interface capabilities of the IR-2. So far I’ve only very quickly tried hooking mine up to an iPad Pro running GarageBand, but it works, even if I do need to work a little on sorting out the input levels. One thing to note though, is that an iPad does not recognise the IR-2 out of the box; you need to find the section in the manual for USB use, and follow the instructions to get that going for an iOS device.
@@DoubleDguitarI got the Boss, it was easy enough to connect the pedal to my iPad. The real problem though, is the level out. The headphones don’t have separate level knob, so when I adjust the input level to record, I’m adjusting the headphones level too. That means when my input level are ok in Garageband, the headphone level are too loud. So in the end, I had to connect it to my Apogee interface anyway. It works fine playing to backing track, but the reason I bought it was that it could be used as an stand alone interface. So, I don’t know. I have the Kemper Profile Player too.
@@TheWelhaven interesting about the headphone level. I would think there would be a way to control that level, or keep it even somehow. I find it easier to just go straight to my interface. Try the forward audio free downloads of some cab IRs, I found one I really like and popped it into all the slots.
You don’t! I did do a video about using my interface, but in this instance the IR will be seen the exact same way that a Focusrite or any other interface would be seen. At that point, I was just using the Focusrite to monitor from the computer. Any speaker setup will work. Thanks about the videos, I am really glad you like where I am trying to take the channel. 🤘🏻
I have not made the switch to Mac - still on a Windows PC (Laptop) - I'll take a look at garage band. The inputs are USB and HDMI on my laptop. I wonder if there is a USB-C to HDMI adapter... hmm... DAW!
You would just want USB to USB c adapter, plenty of those around. If you are wanting to record into a computer, this was really easy and no latency that I felt. The IR-2 is crazy wild stuff, man. Going to dig into changing some cab IR slots soon.
@@DoubleDguitar I put my line 6 pod go up for sale, just because the simplicity of the ir-2. The pod is great but the older I get (50) the less pissing around I want to do🤣
Great video. Can you use the IR-2 as an interface with it in bypass mode? In other words, if you want to switch between the sounds of the IR-2 or turn them off and just send the guitar direct (without any IR sounds) will the interface work that way or are the pedal sounds always active in interface mode?
if you get a hankering. plese use the Boss IR2 as an interface on a different daw than Garageband so as the verify how many channels through USB are available. Garageband is limited to 2 channels through USB@DoubleDguitar
@@zakklee2556 ok cool, I may need a little time for that one. My next couple of videos are planned out, however I am really looking for something more flexible for my Mac. Considering Ableton, as I also use PolychromeDSP and the designer uses them together.
How are you monitoring the IR? And which software? USB input or 1/4 out to your interface? I tend to monitor directly off my Focusrite, and not the track in the software.
Thx for this video. I've been waiting for some more info about the built-in audio interface and your video delivers. Just a question: have you noticed any drop in quality going from a separate audio interface to using the Boss IR-2 direct?
Hey man, glad you found it and hopefully it helps you out. I honestly felt no difference in latency or tone comparing the two. If anything, the USB will give a little cleaner signal, since we aren’t hitting the preamps of the interface and using cables etc etc. But dialing it in via USB was cake and no latency feeling at all. I think it would depend upon your setup. I like using it with my whole board and hitting the last stereo effect outs into my interface, just out of convenience. Using the built in loop, this can all still be done, but would mean I would have to move cables around. Having both options is nice.
@@n_gen9148 thank you so much! I appreciate it. I don’t feel any latency, I understand there will be some. I monitor the IR2 from my Focusrite interface, and not through the software. That makes a big difference, but also involves 1/4” outputs from the IR to the interface.
