TET FINLAND: Offroad ride through Lapland to Niekka Mountain on the Trans Euro Trail // EPS 15

- Explore the remote roads of the Trans Euro Trail Finland: Join one of my favorite days of riding of this journey - through endless forests and one of the last wild places in Europe.
Many other motorcyclists told me that the roads in Finland will be boring and straight. They said that Norway and Sweden are better destinations to travel. But Koilliskaira, the north east wilderness area in Lapland proved them all wrong.
We started off our day with at a gas station in the town Vuotso - the last chance of getting petrol before hitting the TET Finland!
The roads were perfect - but soon I realized, that there are some serious dangers when riding off-road in Lappland… Reindeer!
For a short stretch the TET Finland follows a paved road along the Lokka Resevoire. It is one of the largest reservoirs in the EU, and was created by by damming and flooding at the end of the 1960s.
We arrived at what felt like the middle of nowhere: at Kairiver, the Kairijoki wilderness center. Kairijoki has a campsite, cabins and a cafe. But we stopped here not to stay - but to meet my friend Jani who would guide us up Niekka mountain - one of the highest places in Finland accessible on a gravel road!
I have to admit that the ride to Niekka was one of my highlights - but as well our little stops in Suvanto with buildings in the old lappish style, in Luosto, the famous skiing area in Lapland and at the lakes of Kitinen were worth the ride.

Yes they are the same - always running/jumping on the road when you don’t expect them (have to admit though that I was sooo excited about every kangaroo I saw in Australia... )

Hi JohnR! The road following Teno river from Karigasniemi to Utsjoki is beutiful. Also check out the old postal road of Alta in Norway. Cycled them last summer. They are really worth seeing!

You kept your promise. the video really shows landscapes and a beautiful road to ride motorcycles. In the beginning, the road of sand and loose stones is very reminiscent of the roads of the Patagonia region, in Argentina. There, they call this type of flooring a "rípio". Only with the difference that there are many more stones there and the wind from the extreme south of the American continent hurls the bike in all directions, which makes riding very dangerous.

I have ridden all of these places on my world trip - the wind was really crazy! I remember that very well. Had to take care on which side to put the motorcycle on the sidestand so it doesn’t get blown off. 😂
Lovely Lapland!. That’s my sort of trail riding, endless wilderness and big sky. Oh, and the odd cute reindeer. Wouldn’t want to hit one though.

I live near Finland nearby Viipuri (Vyborg). Absolutely love your video. Finland is a great country for traveling and camping: you have privacy with beautiful nature, your have a lot of paid and free parking, camper serviceб etc. I was also in Switzerland, staying at a friend's house in Zuzwil near Winterthur, and I really liked your country. But with camping there are lot more problems. Thanks for you videos!
I am actually from Germany (living between Germany and Switzerland) and I agree - Switzerland has super stunning mountains. But the peaceful tranquillity of Finland is hard to beat! So much enjoyed this!

Even as a Finn I always thought other countries offer better experiences for motorcycling, but after riding the complete TET last summer, I realized I had been wrong all the time. What an adventure you are enjoying! I am getting my bike ready for some adventures locally until I take off for South America. Hopefully the virus will be under control by then. Your videos are beautiful and motivate me for sure! I am thinking my next trip after South America will be to Europe. I would love to see the places you have visited recently. I will take a fly rod as I noticed the flies hanging in the lodge. Thursdays are my favorite day of the week! Best!

I am in the process of selling my business. I would like to ship my bike to Buenos Aires this Fall if things look doable. I want to travel Patagonia and have some friends who own a lodge there. Then head north. That would be fun. If not I will see what the situation dictates and go from there. I am hoping things are much better by then. ♥️
