I failed parallel parking in my driver's test in a small town. I was 15, 5' 2" tall, 100 pounds soaking wet, in a 1964 Ford Fairlane station wagon (3 rows of seats, a WIDE wheelbase). The examiner said, and I quote: "You're such a tiny, little girl, in this HUGE car, and we don't even have any parallel parking in our town. I'm gonna pass you." 😁

As someone who also doesn't parallel park, I think we need to take up a collection to pay for a patient, calm, encouraging professional driving instructor to give Janelle some private lessons in an oversized SUV and then send her to take her test in a compact car. Sometimes friends & family are not cut out with the patience to teach.
This might be the most wholesome court call I’ve ever seen. Weird place to find something uplifting. But I could not stop smiling and laughing through the entire thing 😂
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣OMGosh I CAN SOOOOO RELATE, I’m 65 and have NEVER gotten the hang of it! Looks like I’m in great company. I will park farther away from my destination and walk before attempting to parallel park. Way to fun! Mike, sign me up for your class. 😂
I'm going to make a confession: I helped 3 teenage girls pass parallel parking by telling a fib. I told my daughters that I have a theory that the ability had a connection to a gene. Seriously, I said, "Parallel parking had always seemed so easy for me ....so it will be easy for you." Truthfully, it took years to feel comfortable doing that maneuver. But they didn't know that.🤣
Awwh Mike, that’s why I love your channel, that we are all invested in this lady conquering parallel parking, even the judge, great content, comments, and care for the community!! You da best, and Debbie too!
My eldest daughter grew up in the city. She only parallel parked. When she went off to college in a rural town, she called me crying. It had taken her twenty minutes and seven sorority sisters for her to pull into the spot!
Omg Judge Marable had some craziness going on today. He was arguing with a couple of attorneys. He invited one of them to go to Karaoke with him and he would buy him a drink. The other attorney was so mad at him and Marable said I know that if you were here in court that you would punch me in the nose. Ah good times lol.
At 16, I passed parallel parking with a heavy duty 3/4 ton International Harvester Travelall(think a Suburban, but even beastlier) AND a manual transmission on the first try at the Aurora DMV testing center that was famed far and wide for failing first timers. Even got a complement from the examiner. Her problem is 110% psychological. Poor woman just needs a patient, methodical teacher. Teach her in a beast and let her test in compact.
Once Janelle passes and finally gets that confidence built up, she will NEVER forget how hard she worked to get parallel parking down. She will be able to do it in her sleep! I love Judge Simpson and he is absolutely right! I do believe she’s overthinking it. I hope she is successful the next time.
Right!! She doesn’t know that she had SO MANY people rooting for her and sending her blessings and hugs! But I am thinking that someone who is a fan of your show and knows her says…”do you know your on Law Talk with Mike”. LOL
Judge Simpson is the absolute best. He has such a great sense of humor and he takes the time to listen to everyone. Most judges are just going through the motions to get to the end of the day.
It's been a long time since I belly laughed. Man, I just got rolling after that first dude and she comes out with parking.. I snorted. This was a great one!
When I took driver's Ed 50 years ago, yes I am a grandma, I hit the car in front of me during the parallel parking section of "behind the wheel training"...my instructor sitting in the passenger seat was a family friend and football coach for my brother said "get us the hell out of here". This was at the curb next to the town police station. LOL 😂😂😂 Go Janelle!
I hope someone tells poor Janell that she has people all over cheering her on. Maybe that will give her the confidence boost she needs to be able to parallel park.
I took my test for my driver's license 30 years ago and it did not include parallel parking. Honestly here in Arizona, I have never needed to parallel park! Lmao
As far as parallel parking goes, when I took driver's Ed in Chicago in the 70s, we were not taught parallel parking, just angle parking. In Chicago, almost everything is parallel parking. The suburban schools taught parallel parking, but almost everything there was angle parking! Government ideas just blossom everywhere!
This was as good as Judge Middleton recommending the guy with the escaping cows, give the cows to "the Davis farm" with Debbie there in the courtroom. Janelle needs to do it with her a 12 passenger van to learn with. That's what my parents did to me,. I was driving a Chevy 12 passenger van with for six months, then put me in a Chevy Cavalier wagon to take the test. I was nervous about doing a three point turn and parallel parking in a vehicle so small... Great video! 😎
Drivers ED saved my kids and us as parents with parallel parking, and other driving requirements to pass the test. Was worth it in gold! They also taught our kids the road rules, because there is small (or big) stuff we forget about road rules that are important to pass the test. When my daughter first started driving she kept getting her arms tangled, she would try to turn the corner without letting go of the steering wheel, or letting it spin under her palms. She had a death grip. I about lost it when she almost crashed. Thankfully the drivers ED teacher fixed it 🤣🤣 She says mom screamed and dad just laughed...🙄
Our 15 yr old daughter is far too cautious as well so I can relate. Last month she was practicing on local highway with us all in car and 80+ yr old man pulled out in front of her and totaled our car. We parents have broken bones, fortunately kids all good. Thankful she’s taking drivers Ed this semester to help her overcome a new fear of driving!
There are some people who just don't have the ability and unfortunately, many of them DO pass the exam hahaha. There are many who don't have the spatial awareness. I had a gf who had literally zero hand eye co-ordination. I tried to teach her to play catch one time. It was bizarre to see her put her glove out to catch the ball...nowhere near where it was and about a second after it went past her. I gave up. It wasn't just a baseball. I remember tossing a wrapped candy to her one time. It hit her in the chest and THEN she put her hand up to catch it.....lol.
My mom drove 20 years with no licence, until she ran a red light taking me to 1st grade and got a ticket in 1968. Turned out she never had a birth certificate (she was born at home) and that's why she didn't have a licence. I don't know how she got a bank account and cashed checks! She applied for a birth certificate, but when the state of OK researched her family to get her birth date, it turned out she was a year older than she thought she was! She never accepted it.
Last winter I had to parallel park my extended cab pickup in a space maybe 18" longer than the truck. It was either that or walk about 7 blocks in a snow storm. Only took me 2 tries.
I’m not saying hide from your problems, but googling counties in your state that don’t require parallel parking for the driving test can be helpful lol. I know a ton of people who can’t do it and just schedule a test super far away in order to pass (usually in more rural counties). 😆
I was so afraid this was the woman from before. My mother had severe problems with backing and parking. I'm so lucky I had an excellent driver Ed instructor. He had a fool proof method that has worked for me every time. 1. Pull up parallel to the front vehicle. 2. Back straight back, slowly. 3. When your steering wheel gets even to the back corner of that front vehicle. 4. Cut the wheel hard (spin the wheel clockwise) 5. When your front bumper is just past the lead vehicles bumper cut back the other direction hard.
Exactly how my boyfriend taught me! I was so ready to ace my driving test, but when it came to the parallel park I notice a Corvette Stingray (early 70s model) was parked perpendicular to the lines painted for the parking test, and it's front end was hanging over the parking bump and well inside the space. I told the DOT guy that we needed to find another place to do the test because I didn't want to risk damaging that Vette. He told me that was the only space we could use, but that I showed good judgment so he would let me skip it. "But I practiced! I can do it!" I wailed like a complete idiot.
I avoid parallel parking because it always takes three or four adjustments to get close enough to the curb, but I remember the process. To repeat what Cher in "Clueless" told her stepbrother, "Why? Everywhere you go has valet."
It’s not hard. You pull up so you are side by side with the car in front of the spot. You reverse until the side mirror lines up with the bumper. You turn the shell all the way continuing to reverse until it clears the front car then turn it all the way the other way until you are straightened out
I didn't have to parallel park when I had my driver's test, but it was in the middle of nowhere Nebraska and almost 25 years ago. She seems like a sweet lady, I hope she gets there 🤣
I think Mr. Johnson did very well by his cases so far. I think his demeanor might have a lot to do with it. He's just so candid and really has a great sense of humor. I recommend he should start a new career as a stand up act. I do mean it seriously, he is very talented in his own way. I enjoyed it totally. Thanks Mike.✨✨✨✨🌟 Judge Simpson is just got me rolling too. I'd be honored to go before his honor.

Im in Wisconsin and we don’t even have parallel parking on the test anymore because we have the option to choose another spot rather than try to park in a spot you can barely fit in
In New Zealand we can fail the parallel parking but still pass the test. I am a volunteer driving mentor for refugees. Just takes a few tricks and some patience of a good instructor !! Poor lady 😂
I had to take my driver's test (traveller's test?) in a 1969 Ford Econline van with no windows in the back and manual steering. I didn't pass parallel parking. The instructor said he probably couldn't either. Next time, I had to use our other family car, a huge Ford Ltd station wagon. It had power steering. I somehow passed.
growing up in Chicago I could squeeze my daddy's Pontiac in a Volkswagen size spot. I taught all my friends how to parallel park My Dad was so good too. but most of my friends get out and I par for them.
I grew up in Michigan but now am in VA. I had to be able to parallel park in MI but my teenager took her driving test last Friday and they said you don't need to know how. WHAT!! We live in a suburb just outside of Richmond so it's busy with a lot of street parking. Growing up in the boondocks of MI and had to know but it's doesn't matter here. Crazy.

I want Judge Simpson to take over Judge Marable's docket for a week. He'd have all those stacks of loose files and staff in ship shape.
I want to see Lanise Bryant take over for him! Oh, lord!
And that PD Wheaton would have himself a few days behind bars for an attitude adjust.
@@JTguitarlessons DEFINITELY!!! I said the same thing the last video with the disrespectful attorney and defendant.
Poor Janelle. I was hoping she could get this sorted out. I haven’t parallel parked since my test so I feel for her.

I agree. My stepdad took over for me because my mom and I didn’t work out. Hopefully she gets it soon.
I did my driver's test in a Geo Metro. I had enough room between the cones for 2 cars. It was a cake walk
Oh, I feel for her ❤
I did mine in NC, in the Country, and thankfully didn't have to parallel park in the late 90's
@@TMS-pj7fp thank you! I was early 90s and swear we didn't have to do it as part of a road test.
I’ve said it before, but Mike’s laughter is so contagious. Makes my day 😁
This was absolutely charming. That judge is so awesome. Your laugh is infectious and so endearing.
Thank You

Thank you Judge Simpson. And OSG. And others. Xxxxxoooo
I haven't had to worry about parallel parking in decades, but I live in the suburbs.
One is reminded of Yoda: "Do! Or do not! There is no try."
I feel for Janelle. I have a Smart Fortwo and have had my license for decades and I am still terrified of parallel parking. 😀
Ooh how I love Judge Simpson. This is stuff you never see on TV, and humanises the court system. Love these videos Mike!

Judge Simpson exuding humanity and personality from the bench. Always good to see.

Judge Simpson can be humorous, lenient, tough, etc. He is actually a very good judge! We could use more like Judge Simpson.

I love Judge Simpson!! Especially his fun, flirty side. He’s just the best all around. Great video! Tysm Mike have a wonderful day!!
Jelaine is flirting with the judge. He’s having fun with it. Judge is having so much fun today with Johnson too.

The first problem I see are the cones. Visually you need a car to go by and I think easier.
Oh James Johnson had a personality filled appearance in front of Judge Simpson again today. It was the one case I was able to catch today!
I heart Judge Simpson!! He is such a sweetie.

4. Cut the wheel hard (spin the wheel clockwise)
5. When your front bumper is just past the lead vehicles bumper cut back the other direction hard.

Absolutely loved the parallel parking. I'm the same way but fortunately I live where I can just drive around until I find a place so I don't have to.
She should rent a Smart Car for the test. If she can't park that little roller skate then she shouldn't be on the road.
