The red and green edges on letters are just the sub-pixel font rendering. This is 100% normal and expected for low-resolution screens, it's an intentional feature. I'm fortunate enough to have both an original LCD Steam Deck and now the new LE OLED model. I decided to buy the OLED model so that I could have the original docked downstairs in our family room and still have the new OLED model as the more portable option. After having the OLED for a little over a week now, the screen, (which was initially a "Wow" factor) when comparing the two, has since kind of faded as being the new Deck's biggest feature. The OLED screen is a really nice improvement but the LCD screen isn't, to me at least, as bad of a screen as some make it out to be. Especially since the latest update which added color correction options for both. The biggest improvement to me is by far the battery life. Not only is the battery life drastically improved over the original, but since it's mostly the same system internally, all of the little tricks that I was using to try to get the most out of the LCD model's battery also work for the OLED. Getting that extra hour or two of battery life, even on the most demanding games, is a huge boon to me. It was also the main reason why I decided to get a second Steam Deck instead of a more powerful but more power-hungry Windows based handheld. If I hadn't already had a use for a second handheld device in mind, I probably would not have purchased the OLED model, and instead waited for something a bit more powerful. As a side note: I do think Valve rushed the 3.5 build out sooner than they should have. I'm experiencing more menu lag, occasional freezing, and just a general less responsive feeling with both the new and the older deck than what I remember having before that update.
@@GH0STST4RSCR34MI guess he means that the constant plug in would break down the substance of the battery it’s self. But there Is an option to stop load the battery at 80% to save the battery in docked mode.

I'd be willing to bet the red and green text halos you mentioned are because oled screens use nonstandard sub-pixel layouts. WOLED specifically has a RWBG sub-pixel layout and will have the red and green text fringing.

54:35 I will have this audio issue every once in awhile on both LCD and OLED models. In desktop mode I noticed that for some reason there is an "audio sink" (not sync) setting that will set its own volume. After adjusting that particular setting it is then fixed. I don't know what the specific cause of it is but that is a symptom I've noticed.
So I ran the dead pixel color test on my LE OLED Steam Deck and noticed 1 dead pixel when viewing the bright blue screen. All the other colors seem fine and when I view screens with different shades of blue I do not see the dead pixel. Also it’s tough to see the dead pixel unless I have the screen at least 3-4 inches away from my face. Would you still return this?
@@goovindnarula6470 right I was not sure, since it’s not visible when changing the screen color to red, green, white, or black. Only on the bright blue, but then when I view other pictures or backgrounds with different shades of blue, I don’t see it at all. I guess I can live with it, since I can’t see it most of the time unless the screen is near my face.

Higher refresh rates typically use more battery. So 120hz for oled steamdeck doesn't make sense, especially since they wanted better battery life. Also, most of the time 90hz vs 120hz, you won't be able to tell the difference.
Returning my LE and already ordered a 1TB standard oled, shipped this morning. 2 dead pixels in the middle of the panel. Noticed while playing vampire survivors and now I can't unsee them :/. Sucks because I love the LE, but I want the flawless Samsung panel.
Probably not in any meaningful way because you need a fast enough interface between the Deck and the eGPU to make it worth it. In general this would mean Thunderbolt 3 or later, USB 4 (or later when that exists), or OCuLink. The Steam Deck does not have any of those interfaces (or something comparable) available. It only has USB 3.2.
My OLED refused to connect to my Wi-Fi 6 Nighthawk router. I actually had to disable Wi-Fi 6 connectivity/features for it to finally connect to my router.
Everything is all good with mine but I have one curious issue. My mini foldable keyboard just cannot stay connected to Bluetooth. It still works with my LCD still, will no issue. The only other Bluetooth device (8bitdo Pro 2) I tested doesn’t disconnect nearly as much but it still does. My AirPods never disconnect. The keyboard has a very specific use but it’s not enough for me to consider RMA as everything else is perfect.

My biggest question is: how has NO ONE mentioned the subpixel fringing? Edit: oh wait they did! My 2 cents, I noticed the fringing the moment I turned on the Deck. I can ignore it mostly but whenever there's white text on a black background it becomes obvious again
I got the Steam Deck Oled LE and i have a router issue. I have a wifi 6 router. I can't connect to the 5G. It's said my password is wrong and the same with the 2.4 but with the 2.4 as soon i restart the device connect without an issue. I asume is a driver issue but waiting for Valve or any media to report a fix!
I’m visiting my parents who have WiFi6e and I’m totally getting throttled on my Oled. My parents have 1000 down and 100up, and every game I DL’d was capped at 240mb. Same with an ethernet connection. I don’t know if this is a network issue at home, or Hardware issue or Valve throttling DL speeds. Whichever it is, with my perfect panel, I’m not going to play the dead pixel lottery to try and fix it. 😜
I don't know if this has to do with it being limited edition steam deck oled, or if it's just that it's a bug with the dock in general. But I just got my limited edition steam deck OLED, And this morning when I undocked it from the valve brand dock (which I also just recently got), The deck emitted this horrible very loud screeching noise from its speakers, It almost sounded like microphone feedback. I was also in desktop mode. Again I don't know if this is a common problem or if it's a really weird niche issue because I was both using it docked and in desktop mode, but I thought I'd just share my experience.
Quick question, anyone else having this issue with the new oled steam deck. When using wired headphones plugged into the 3.5mm jack there is a constant static noise. I tried 3 different wired headphones and the static noise can still be heard. Anyone?
I got the oled steam deck and wanted to know if there is any way to tether my old steamdeck through usb c to transfer games rather than redownload them
@@AgentKenshin thanks for sharing is it just the save files or game installs too. Given game files are so large these days it takes a toll on my internet redownloading them 😊
@@kunalnn017 Game install files. Steam has an option to transfer them over the local network. In fact I believe this is on by default I would try with a smaller gamer first and see. It will display in the downloads page as transfering over the local network. *Edit: I have been specifically downloading games on my desktop on a 8TB mechanical drive to use as a game repository to move them to the SSD when I want to play them. This just had a bonus effect of making them easy to install on the deck.
Did Cary scoff when Playstation Portal was mentioned in first few minutes? Give me a break dude. The media is so dismissive and out of touch about it. I’m a 40 year old gamer dad with kids, wife, and just to mention a couple reasons there’s a.) TV competition and b.) MA rated games I don’t want to play in front of my kids. The Portal has been amazing for me (and many other real life consumers). If I did gaming/tech for a living of course I’d have a dedicated work station and probably less need for the Portal and more gaming options. But I could still understand the audience and not approach the product with such a negative bias.
The 3.5 Audio Jack is botched on so many OLEDs (mine included). The report rate on Reddit and socials is getting higher everyday. It’s my only disappointment.
My wifi is set up so I have a different SSID for 5Ghz, so I just connect to that. My speed has been way faster than my old deck and I don't even have WiFi6 router.
In my opinion I don’t like the LE steam deck (I bought one) and I’m trying to exchange it for the 1TB OLED idk if anyone knows if exchanges are possible

Wait how do you stretch a 16:9 image? I see it in the side menu but nothing happens
I do not know but i trust these men with with all my soul..
I have the jsaux backplate with the extra vent and their fan. And i get over 10 degrees cooler. So Bill sorry to say you're wrong in this case. It has worked great. Both products.
Can I ask, is this on the LCD model or the OLED?
@@Pepperham04 LCD.
Hi can you share where you purchased the Atari 2600 which was also my first console…so cool😊
Hi after I use parsers on emudeck, none of the artwork transfers to steam. Have tried fully loading 5 times and reinstalling emudeck with no success. If anyone has any ideas why, that would be great. Thanks.
Hi just wondering for the steam deck to add more memory is Lexiar 1 tb a2 good or will my unit over heat or is sandisk the one to get thanks
I thought I had a lot of games on Steam but Phawx almost having 11000 games on Steam is absolutely ridonkulous
Couldn't even get madden playing offline for steam deck
My biggest question is: how has NO ONE mentioned the subpixel fringing?
Edit: oh wait they did! My 2 cents, I noticed the fringing the moment I turned on the Deck. I can ignore it mostly but whenever there's white text on a black background it becomes obvious again
Do you mean on the OLED model or LCD?
I’m having the 200/1040hz gpu issue where it just never scales usage properly
Sorry if this was asked already but has anyone used the 2nd generation AirPods Pro with the oled? I always had issues with my lcd deck.
No issues with my 512 OLED
@@highlander5304 Thanks! Just received mine as well and can confirm the same.
My BOE panel is flawless on my LE
36:40. No point. What games can play at 120fps comfortably on the Deck?
I’m visiting my parents who have WiFi6e and I’m totally getting throttled on my Oled. My parents have 1000 down and 100up, and every game I DL’d was capped at 240mb. Same with an ethernet connection. I don’t know if this is a network issue at home, or Hardware issue or Valve throttling DL speeds. Whichever it is, with my perfect panel, I’m not going to play the dead pixel lottery to try and fix it. 😜
Turn Bluetooth off on your phone and then try to connect the speaker from your deck maybe?
I don't know if this has to do with it being limited edition steam deck oled, or if it's just that it's a bug with the dock in general.
But I just got my limited edition steam deck OLED, And this morning when I undocked it from the valve brand dock (which I also just recently got), The deck emitted this horrible very loud screeching noise from its speakers, It almost sounded like microphone feedback. I was also in desktop mode.
Again I don't know if this is a common problem or if it's a really weird niche issue because I was both using it docked and in desktop mode, but I thought I'd just share my experience.
It’s just a Linux driver bug. Happens sometimes on different Linux distros I’ve used, nothing to worry about
WiFi issue could be tied to smart routers
I wish they offered the LE in Asia. :(
Great stream, only issue is the question if the LE was worse or not was not answered
LE BOE Screen
Con: more likely to suffer from dead/stuck pixels
Pro: Overclockable to 120hz
@@cloudboysmusic5223 I wouldnt overclock it it could ruin the panel
At the price point the Steam Deck doesn't feel like it's worth the money. It's so disappointing that this product was released before it was polished.
Quick question, anyone else having this issue with the new oled steam deck.
When using wired headphones plugged into the 3.5mm jack there is a constant static noise. I tried 3 different wired headphones and the static noise can still be heard.
Anyone?
Yeah, looks like it's a common problem (if not all decks) with IEM or other low impedance headphones
It seems like these "reviewers" dont even review their decks. They just tow the line like they are afraid to say anything bad about the deck
I find it sus that not a single one of them tried an IEM on their new decks, despite 3 of them using IEMs in this vid.
If you're a fan, anything is worth it. If you're not a fan, nothing is worth it. That's all
I got the oled steam deck and wanted to know if there is any way to tether my old steamdeck through usb c to transfer games rather than redownload them
If they are on the same network and same steam account the files will transfer locally. I do it all the time from my desktop to deck or another pc.
@@kunalnn017Yes you transfer the entire game through your home network. I use the feature too and I love it
@@kunalnn017 game files transfer as well. it only re-download shaders. not game files
Great show guys!
i really want that shirt phawx
oh no I missed it live... dam you employment
But I could still understand the audience and not approach the product with such a negative bias.
cryobyt the real master i only trust him!
the frequency of ads is ridiculous in this video
UA-cam decides when to show ads for each user individually, based on their past video watching habits.
In my opinion I don’t like the LE steam deck and I’m trying to exchange it for the 1TB OLED idk if anyone knows if exchanges are possible
I did the update on my LCD to 3.5.5 2 days before I got my oled, and it messed up my deck:/ my buttons stopped working completely and screen went black. I wonder if anyone else came across this issue:( valve has been giving me the run around without a fix
Sent it in for repairs. Usually takes united radio (3rd party repair center ) about two weeks. Most expensive repair is $150
My OLED steam deck is updated and the wake from bluetooth does NOT work
Dude get WiFi 6E. It’s WAY better.
you forgot to mention the green tint in dark areas of games you youtubers love to ignore it ...i wonder why
It might be. Let me check here. Because I’m not seeing it.
The fringing is on Samsung and not BOE.
The oled deck was like a silent fart in the night I'll be sticking with my original deck till the new one comes out 👌
"best mid gen refresh ever?"
