Your supposed to flush with distilled water. Empty coolant, fill with distilled water, start the bike for 5 min and drain. Repeat as many times as needed until the distilled water drains out clear. Always replace with coolant made for aluminum engines.
So, I fill the bike completely with the distilled water - run it for 5 mins. Drain. Refill with new distilled water - run for 5 mins. Drain. Then I can add the engine ice ?
You missed the 10mm drain bolt on cylinder 1 and really should run 3-4 cycles flushing with Distilled Water before filling with your choice of coolant. Then run motor with rad cap off to promote air trapped in the system to come to the top.
Thanks for the video I’ve got the exact same bike, I’m about to do the same service this weekend. It shows that you need to replace the washer on the drain bolt but local dealer doesn’t stock them. Did you just reuse yours? Thanks
Thank you! that is literally the most efficient video that I have ever seen! You knew exactly what I was looking for and gave it to me right away without a long intro. Thank you sir
U should of flushed the remaining green coolant with distilled water like I did and then I ran the engine ice though the radiator till the blue comes through.but u should be fine.
I found that after doing this a couple times, you can basically milk the system by squeezing all the tubing with the coolant drain bolt loosened. I would never flush with water. It may be valid but I would rather flush with extra coolant fluid. You likely have small amounts of water trapped in your line but hopefully it mixes and never becomes an issue. How come you chose distilled water as opposed to flushing with more fresh coolant?
@@gitaround5097 that’s why i said distilled water and not regular water . You don’t want engine ice being in there mixed with any other coolant . The recipe I’m talking about is the gold standard and pretty common and have been doing on many of my race bikes . I can show you the video evidence and proof after running distilled water through a full operating temp cycle and draining it and still having a slight greenish tint from the other coolant that didn’t come out doing the regular drain . I’m very through
I just did mines last week and you definitely correct, also did a cycle of white vinegar and water but after your first cycle of water.its going to be so green you might think it’s straight coolant
I bought the new one but Its VERY similar year to year. Its ~$100 on the Kawi website but 99.9% of it is the same info for older models. You can download 2019 manual for free online ;)
Thanks for this vid. I’m about to do coolant, brake fluid, oil and tires in preparation for my first track day. Glad coolant is as easy as it should be. 👍 on to looking for a brake fluid vid 😂
Just did this but flushed with distilled water and let the bike run till fans come on so thermostat opens . Let bike cool down then drain and add engine ice .
Idk if that sounds like a good idea boss. The temp sensor is in a specific place. without coolant, you have no idea how hot the rest of the system is since the coolant is what acts as a thermal mass to spread the thermal energy equally throughout the engine, you could have pockets in your engine running way hot or colder than the temp indicates... your probably ok but I would never recommend this method. Is this a normal thing to do?
@@gitaround5097 lol look up people flushing the old coolant out with distilled water and running it through one heat cycle then adding engine ice . This is exactly what you do and many have done it . Just letting you know as well from real world experience and i live in Florida
id suggest every 10k mi or so and checkup on the level more frequently than that to make sure its not low. The manual might have a different number in there
At some point i was noting it - and it did make an improvement. But not large. After my flash made the most difference cause they made the fan turn on sooner
No. I live in Texas where im riding in 95+ degree weather. I think you might wanna check on that. Over time, it will increase the stress on your bike and age it faster
It's gonna look like it's running hot. As long as the very top bar is not filled in and your fan is running strong you should be good 👍 if you look at the actual temp guage it shouldn't be getting much over 220 at it hottest. And while driving normal stay around 195ish in hot weather. In cold weather it won't get past 140. Hope this helps
Cant remember the number off the top of my head. I did the guess and check method. There are some minimum / maximum fill lines on the reservoir to do it visually. Think i needed two containers of engine ice and used maybe 1.5
this is not the way to do it. never mix the 2. flush your old fluid then run distilled water thru the system a couple of times. then when the water is clear coming out then add engine ice and your good

Its crazy that your manual comes with pictures and instructions for coolant, but mine said, "Go to authorized dealer"

I did exactly that plus a cycle of 50/50 water and white vinegar
Oil drain pan works best to catch the coolant.
We have the same bike! I’ve been using your videos as tutorials lol. 🏍💨
Glad they have helped someone!!

Yeah, reuse it unless its visually destroyed

Hi just done mine follow the same procedure mine only took under 2 litres coolant as I did keep warming the bike up and let the air comes out …..
U should of flushed the remaining green coolant with distilled water like I did and then I ran the engine ice though the radiator till the blue comes through.but u should be fine.
Cheers for the tip brother
Good Job.
Also you only need to fill the Reservoir to the full mark when the engine is cold

Way not to show the removal of the fairings . 🤣
How many bottles of Engine Ice(2qts/1.89L) did you need? I need to buy coolant for my zx6r but Im not sure how much if manual says 2.43Qts
You will need two to fill it porperly. IF you only have one bottle, you will be OK
Was that a maintenance manual for the new zx6r? If so where can I get one?

Any temp changes after adding the engine ice? Before and after temp changes on idle?
