If you're trying to find a middle name, the best tip I've come across is to yell their whole name like you would if the child was in trouble. If you can't easily yell it then it's not the right middle name.
I do this as well I was originally going to name my son Jedidiah Douglas but that did not yell well I ended up naming him Jarnez Douglas which I love and have never heard before. I came up with it after watching the comedian Arnez J, my son goes by JD which was the plan all along.
We just had our first baby 8 weeks ago. Didn’t know the gender through our pregnancy. We had a girl! We named her Matilda Louise. So many nicknames! We call her Tilly, but figured we could also call her Tilly Lou. And when she gets older she could go by Tilda like Tilda Swinton. Of course, there’s also Matty, or Mattie. The boy name we had on deck was Shepherd Nearing.
Watching this a year later and already knowing what baby name y'all went with, it tickled me how casual you were when you'd gotten to that name on the list 😂 Did you already know what you were wanting to name her when you'd made this video?
We are naming our daughter Silvie Nicole. We love the meaning of Silvie, ‘forest’, and Nicole is my middle name. It breaks the syllable rules, but we love it anyway.
Our next babygirl will be called Briar (Bry-er). Two of our best friends, males - a couple, would have named their daughter Briar....if they wanted kids lol they let us have it 😂
When I was pregnant with my daughter my husband and I wanted to do a mash up of his name (Andy) and my middle name (Lynn) but we felt that "Andylynn" looked way too messy so we opted for the spelling "Andelyn". It is pronounced "An-duh-lyn". Andelyn is a totally unique name and we have never met another. We get compliments on her name all the time. The only frustrating thing is that it is often mispronounced as Andy-lyn or as Add-uh-lyn so we have to correct people a lot that it is AN-DUH-LYN. Her middle name is Rose. Andelyn Rose, we love it.
We named our daughter Alita which could be shortened to Ali, Al, Lita, Lee. We actually call her all sorts of things. I definitely see that not being a name you would choose with your daughter's names.
"Vienna is really pretty too." Yay, I'm glad you like it! ;) I have a 16-month old daughter named Vienna. I also have a younger sister named Sienna (yes, my parent's family mixes them up haha).
We picked a name in the top 10 and I wouldn’t commit to it even though I liked it for probably 18 hours after she was born. I was quizzing all the nurses and doctors who came in to my post partum room. The paediatrician said, “hmm I don’t have a lot of patients with that name” and I finally was fine with it. My husband has a top 10 name and he doesn’t think he had that bad of an experience growing up with it. Everyone can spell it and knows how to pronounce it. Whereas I had to correct people or just silently Seethe when I was too shy, because Hayley is so often misspelled. I’d love to get more creative with future Children’s names!
-You can do Celeste with Esty as a nickname 😉 -Also, there's a baby name lady on UA-cam with a daughter named Evalina (ev-ah-leena), which is like Evelyn, but not popular. And you could call her Evie!
Aoife is pronounced ee-fuh. She is a warrior in Irish Mythology. Love. Also you said my number one name that is so rare in the US I pray everyday that it doesn’t take off. My favorite boy name of all time that I’ve wanted to name my son since I was 8 and was an obscure Irish name is now popular. I don’t know how it happened but I am devastated because the more rare a name is the more I love it but It has to be Celtic or welsh for me.
I love the name Collins for a girl, ever since I first saw The Blind Side. Not crazy where people will be raising their brows lol, but also not too popular.
I love the name Lena (Lee- nah) from the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling pants. other spellings could be Lina or Leana. Or pronounced Lye-nah or Leh-nah.
We have a Wren and a Fern. I've only met one Wrenn (not sure why their name had 2 N's) in the wild, and I've never met a Fern. If you want a long name for Dru, my great granny's name was Drucinda.
My name is Celeste!💙 I was so tickled pink and surprised when I heard it come up because it's never really on baby name lists! But I'm so grateful to my mom for picking it, it's so pretty (tempted to use it in my child's name...👀)
OMG Shayla! I am just seeing this video. My name is #1!? honored 🥰 I remember meeting you on the plane when you were coming back from the Dove Chocolate gig you had in Santa Monica? Miss you! Hope all is well with you!

Shayla, I feel like we are baby name soul sisters 😂❤️ love all of your top pics. We had a 2021 baby and named her Anellise Josephine (nickname Nelli Jo)
I don’t know if u have heard these: Athena, Estina, Romany ( o sounds like aaw), or Romney (without the a), Shylo, Posha (nicknamed Posh) Anissa (rhymes with Alissa), Haven, Shya, Aniah, Anaria.
I love those two names!!!!!!!My daughters name is Berlin Cru wanted her middle name to be Saige but my husband said no way! and when I found I was having my second daughter I knew her name was Saige and her middle name is Coast
Our daughters name is Saelah - pronounced Say-la and her middle name is Estreya - pronounced Eh-stray-ah. She is half Latina and her middle name is Spanish for star. Also I know so many people / UA-camrs who have named their daughter either Everly or Saige thinking that it was unique. Now I can’t think of them as being unique before I’ve heard it too many times.
We have a 4 month old named Allison. My husband gravitated towards popular names from mid to late 80s, basically names of girls we all went to school with. I loved the nickname Allie. Now trying for #2. He still likes Caitlin (Cait) or Evelyn (Evie) but I am digging Lindsay lately just not sure on Linds as a nickname.
Our daughter is Avelyn (think Avery + Evelyn) Theia; nicknames: Ave, Avie, Ava. I'm with you on not wanting her name to be anywhere near the top 100 most popular.
Having no nickname opportunities for myself growing up, I was adamant about having a versatile name for my daughter! We went with Juniper actually-it’s cute/playful but also pretty and naturey. The only problem is everything thinks I’m saying Jennifer or Jupiter when I introduce her 😂
I say just pick the name that you love and who cares if it's not common or not and who cares if others don't like it. The only people that have a genuine say in the matter are the parents of the child. Just don't give a name that your child will be mad at you for naming them because they get picked on in school for it, lol.
Hahaha I love unique names because I was always one of 3 or 4 others at school but I've also joined a Facebook group that roasts "unique" names so that I can rein in back in when I go too far! 😅😅😅
Omg yes. I’m from Brazil and my name is Ana Carolina, I was literally never the only one in any classroom. But after joining that group half of my names are now unusable hahaha they are harshhhhh there haha oh, and my name is both as first name too…
Just had a thought about the nickname/full name thing… if “Robert” can go by “Robby” even though that’s not his given name - couldn’t “Robby” go by “Robert” in his professional life just the same? 🤔
I named my 2yo son Myles and I thought it was really unique as I've never really met or heard it in shows/books but like 3 kids at daycare are named miles/Myles.... And I was like ohhhh damn, guess not
this trend of spelling names weird seems like a nightmare for the kid to endure the rest of his/her life... my last name is weird and it's annoying already, I can't even imagine if my fist was seemingly normal, but I had to spell it out each time, with a high probability of people still getting it wrong
@ASMR Kay yes, you get used to it (I very much am). But if the pronunciation doesn't change, then why change the spelling. Just keep it Elliott, people already know how to spell it, pronounce it, etc.
@@Tabbyroad usually it’s because it sounds different when spelled different. Like my names MaKayla but I’ve seen it spelled many ways, typically Michaela but that changes the way it sounds. I agree with you though. I’m naming my daughter Lucy, no weird spelling here 😉
I loved Livida for a girl. And calling her Liv, or Livvy for short. My boyfriend heard me say it and straight up roasted it for 5 minutes saying it was awful and everyone would think of song living la vie da loca. And then was like "who would name their kid that!? You would laugh!" And I just sat there and said that it was the name I wanted for a daughter since middle school. I was so upset. He panicked and didn't know what to do and tried to apologize
Sometimes it's good to listen to others reactions because well, that's your kid who is going to deal with that. I thought of the word Livido when I read that, which ew.
@@danik.2538 oh, I didn't mean to be offensive. Livido doesn't mean anything so I was just assuming they meant Libido. Which, yeah, if someone named their kid that, I think it'd be kind of gross. But if it makes you feel any better, Livida doesn't make me think of Libido. Sorry your partner didn't agree. That's the hardest part about naming a child, in my opinion! Finding something you agree on. 🙃
Same!!! I want to avoid top fifty, I named my son Cade, it’s becoming more popular! His name was going to be emelia! Everyone jumped on that train same time too
If you wanted to do Aletha you could have her nickname be Thea (Thay-uh) instead of Allie! Celeste: could also nickname her Estee just like Esther. Edith: Edee (Ee-Dee)
My daughters name is Alayna like A-lay-na. Absolutely love her name, it’s Alayna Sophia and it just goes so well together. I call her Laney for short which is a name I wanted to name my child since I was 8 years old 😂
I’m pregnant right now and is looking for a baby girl name, came across your video and this is the FIRST time someone has mentioned my name! I get compliments on my name Aletha all the time! ❤ btw my nick name is Alee :)
My daughter's name is Riannon (pronounced like Ree-ann-in) like the Fleetwood Mac song "Rhiannon", just spelled without the " h". I almost named her Amelia, with the nickname Amy, but it was getting too popular. I had always loved the name Rhiannon, just didn't like the "h", and couldn't think of a nickname for it because I love when a name has a nickname (my name is Gabriella, but I go by Ella). I was initially going to spell it Ryannon and call her Ryan, because I'm more tomboyish (sidenote: didn't do bows or headbands or much of any pink, more blues, greens, & yellows) but my mom doesn't like more masculine names on girls, so then I was going to call her Rain, but again, my mom didn't like it. She likes that Rhiannon is from the era she grew up in and kind of a hippie name, but she thought Rain was a little over the top, too hippie, like Moon. But I ended up watching a show with a character named Aria, and I was like, Oh my gosh, what a cute name, and realized it would make a cute nickname for Riannon when spelled with the "i" and no "h". Ria would be a more common nickname, but just Ria didn't feel right for her as a baby, Aria just fit her better, but I like how she can grow into Riannon, or just Ria when she's older.

Same!!! I want to avoid top fifty, I named my son Cade, it’s becoming more popular! His name was going to be emelia! Everyone jumped on that train same time too
Emersyn for a girl is super cute too
My husband does game, but so do I...and our kids probably will too. It's going to be a noisy and competitive house lol
If you wanted to do Aletha you could have her nickname be Thea (Thay-uh) instead of Allie!
Celeste: could also nickname her Estee just like Esther.
Edith: Edee (Ee-Dee)
Along with my boys names which I shared on the boys video I have 3 girls - Aria Rose, Eliana Grace and Harlowe Elizabeth
We named our daughter Ashlyn Daye. Our boy name was/is Camdin Ashar its and anagram for our names Amanda+Chris.
My daughters name is Alayna like A-lay-na. Absolutely love her name, it’s Alayna Sophia and it just goes so well together. I call her Laney for short which is a name I wanted to name my child since I was 8 years old 😂
Wait.. “our first is like 41 months, she’s almost 2.” Wouldn’t that be 24 months or less then..? 😂
My girls are Paz and My. Hebrew for gold and the month of May 🥰
My Daughter is Ariya Josephine, I call her Ari Jo! Also, her name syllables are 3-3-2, I think it flows great lol
Ari jo?! 😍😍😍
I love that
My daughter’s name is Karsyn. Like Carson but spelt more feminine. I love unisex names for girls!

The stylist who owns the hair salon I frequent is named Quora and I freaking love that name.
I’m pregnant right now and is looking for a baby girl name, came across your video and this is the FIRST time someone has mentioned my name! I get compliments on my name Aletha all the time! ❤ btw my nick name is Alee :)
I have a friend named Edilette and she goes by Edi. Thought of Edi as a nickname for Eden and Edith
My daughter is 15 months and named Cora... well we just started watching Spirit and im so upset by Aunt Cora too 😂😂
OMG hahah luckily it’s a toddler show so it won’t follow her forever
